Chapter 58
The short walk was slow for both of them, and Shen Chutang’s heart was pounding fast.
Perhaps the night was too beautiful tonight, she felt like doing something.
As they reached the villa’s gate, Shen Chutang suddenly stopped. Shi Chengyu stopped with her, “What’s wrong?”
Shen Chutang looked up, and Shi Chengyu leaned down to listen to her.
“Brother Chengyu.” Shen Chutang swallowed nervously, then her soft but firm voice echoed in the night, “I have another gift for you.”
“Be my boyfriend.”
Shi Chengyu was stunned. His pupils constricted, and he looked at her in disbelief. But Shen Chutang didn’t wait for him to answer. She reached out, grabbed his collar, and pulled him down. Her gaze fell on his lips, and she quickly tried to kiss him.
Shi Chengyu suddenly tilted his head up. A fleeting kiss landed on his chin. It was shy, but like a brand, it was etched on Shi Chengyu’s heart.
“Shen Chutang.”
A cold voice came from behind, shattering the sweet atmosphere. Shen Chutang trembled in fright and instinctively hid behind Shi Chengyu.
Shen Sichen’s face was as black as the night. He said coldly, “Shen Chutang, come here.”
He didn’t know when they had become like this.
So many things he couldn’t understand before seemed to have answers. No wonder Shi Chengyu had always been alone for so many years. Oh, no, he had always kept Tangtang by his side. No wonder he always brought Tangtang to those gatherings. He was using her as a shield. No wonder Shi Chengyu always called them “brother.” He had been harboring these thoughts for a long time. No wonder Shi Chengyu wanted to find a shield for Shen Chutang. He had already considered Shen Chutang as his own.
But there were still other people in the Shen family, and he, her brother, wasn’t dead.
Shen Sichen had never called her by her full name before. Shen Chutang hesitated, took a step forward, and mumbled, “Second Brother.”
“Shut up! Don’t call me Second Brother. Shi Chengyu, I’ll deal with my own family affairs first. I’ll settle the score with you later!”
Shen Sichen interrupted him sharply and pulled Shen Chutang’s wrist, walking inside. “Second Brother, Second Brother, slow down.” Shen Chutang was pulled along, stumbling, and she kept turning her head back.
“Uncle Wen, watch her. Don’t let her come out.” Shen Sichen threw her into the room and locked the door from the outside.
Shen Chutang was banging on the door inside, “Second Brother! I was the one who wanted to kiss him! It was me…”
Shen Sichen couldn’t hear the rest. He didn’t have the heart to listen. He was like a beast provoked, wanting to beat the person outside.
Good, he had courage. He was still standing there, not leaving.
Shen Sichen went up, grabbed his collar, and punched him, “Shi Chengyu, I considered you a brother. What the hell do you think Tangtang is?”
“She’s not a woman you can just keep!”
Although Shi Chengyu’s family was one of the best in Beijing, if he really wanted to be Shen Chutang’s boyfriend, they, her brothers, wouldn’t be satisfied.
Shi Chengyu was pushed back a few steps, blood coming from the corner of his lips, “Second Brother, it’s my fault. Don’t blame Tangtang.”
“Of course Tangtang is not wrong! She’s a little girl. What does she know! You’re using your good looks to seduce her? You grew up watching Tangtang. How could you have such filthy thoughts about her!”
Shen Sichen stepped forward and punched him in the chest again. He had been boxing for years, and this punch was filled with anger. The force was undiminished.
Shi Chengyu leaned against the iron gate behind him, a little dumbfounded, “Second Brother, it’s really my fault.”
But he didn’t dare to admit to the charge of seduction.
“I have no complaints if you want to beat me or scold me. But I’ve never looked down on Tangtang, and I won’t be casual with her.”
“Okay!” Shen Sichen pointed at him, “I respect you for being a man! Don’t give me any nonsense!”
But before Shen Sichen could walk over, Shi Chengyu suddenly rushed towards him.
“Tangtang!”
Shen Sichen turned his head to look and saw Shen Chutang jumping down from the second floor.
He froze there, some images flashing through his mind, paralyzing him for a moment.
After a long time, he finally reacted, “Tangtang!”
Shi Chengyu had already carried her to the living room. Uncle Wen hurriedly went to call the doctor.
“Shen Chutang! You’re so daring! You even jumped from the building!” Shen Sichen yelled, his eyes red.
Shen Chutang wanted to retort, but seeing Shen Sichen’s red eyes, she suddenly remembered something and her attitude softened instantly, “Second Brother, I’m sorry.”
Shen Sichen pushed Shi Chengyu away and hugged Shen Chutang, “You’re stupid! I wouldn’t really beat him to death. What were you in such a hurry for? You even risked your life for him!”
This was the second time he had seen someone jump from a building. Shen Sichen was trembling with fear.
Thankfully, he had locked her in his room for the sake of time. He really didn’t dare to think what would have happened if he had sent her back to her room and locked her in. Would Shen Chutang have jumped from the fifth floor?
“Second Brother, I’m fine. I just twisted my ankle.” Shen Chutang said softly, then looked at Shi Chengyu. He looked serious too.
Shi Chengyu had recovered from his panic and fear. There was still a wound on his lip, but his expression was unprecedentedly serious.
The last time he looked at Shen Chutang like this was when she got lost. After finding her, he forced her to memorize his phone number. She was still young then, and she was scared. She cried and acted spoiled, and it was over.
But it was different now. She knew Shi Chengyu was angry, very angry. Shen Chutang was a little scared when she saw it.
Shen Sichen wanted to beat her, but he couldn’t bring himself to do it. He just said fiercely, “You know you’re scared!”
But Shen Chutang wasn’t afraid of jumping from the building. She was afraid of Shi Chengyu’s anger.
She lowered her head. The two people who had been fighting just now were now both standing beside her, angry. She didn’t dare to say a word.
Uncle Wen soon brought the doctor to examine her.
Fortunately, the floor wasn’t high, and there was grass below. She had some abrasions on her hands, but it wasn’t her ankle that was injured, it was a fracture in her shin.
After the bandage was applied, Shen Chutang timidly spoke, “They…they’re injured too.”
“No need.”
“No need.”
The two of them spoke at the same time. They looked at each other. Shen Sichen glared at him fiercely and turned his head, “Go back to your own house.”
But Shi Chengyu sat down next to Shen Chutang, took the iodine from the maid, and wiped her wound with a cotton swab.
Shen Sichen couldn’t stand looking at him, “Stay away from my sister!”
But Shi Chengyu didn’t say anything. He carefully treated her wound, looked down for a while, then looked up at Shen Chutang’s eyes and said word by word, “Shen Chutang, if the floor had been higher, if anything had happened to you, I would have jumped down with you, do you understand?”
His eyes were red, his voice hoarse and choked.
Shen Chutang heard clearly. She was shocked. She had only wanted to stop the two of them from fighting. She jumped down in a moment of panic.
“I…”
Before she could finish, tears fell down her cheeks.
Shen Sichen had been thinking just now that he was good at pretending to be gentle and deceiving Shen Chutang. But when he said those words just now, he knew he wasn’t pretending. Because he had had that thought before, after seeing Zhou Xingyang jump from the building.
But even so, it didn’t stop him from looking at Shi Chengyu like an enemy now.
Shi Chengyu finally softened. He wiped her tears, “Good girl, don’t cry. Let Second Brother take you back to rest.”
He got up and walked out, his steps slow and unsteady.
“Brother Chengyu…”
“Don’t call him brother. What kind of brother is he!”
Shen Sichen was still angry, and his voice was still sharp.
Shi Chengyu didn’t respond, didn’t turn his head, and walked out on his own.
