Chapter 65
“So, you really didn’t read a single word when you signed the contract? You’re not afraid that we’ll sell you?”
“Brother Chengyu, is second brother telling the truth?” Shen Chutang looked at him seriously, her eyes filled with urgency, seeking confirmation.
“Yes.” Shi Chengyu nodded, gently stroking her head. “It’s nothing.”
“What do you mean it’s nothing!” Shen Chutang was unusually angry. “That’s Shi’s.”
She didn’t know how much those shares were worth, but she knew that Shi Chengyu had worked very hard and tirelessly for Shi’s. It was something he had built up with his own hands.
“I don’t want…” Shen Chutang choked. “It’s something you worked so hard for.”
Shi Chengyu lowered his head and wiped the corner of her eye. “Tangtang is also something I worked so hard for.”
The two of them were lost in their own world, oblivious to everyone else. Shen Sichen felt a little redundant. He didn’t disturb them and left quietly.
“Tangtang, don’t cry. Just keep it for me, okay?”
“You’re lying. If I give it back to you later, you won’t want it.”
She really had grown up. He couldn’t coax her with those words anymore. Shi Chengyu chuckled, thinking of a solution.
Shen Chutang heard him laugh and became even angrier. She pinched his waist.
It didn’t hurt, it tickled. Shi Chengyu caught her hand. “Tangtang, didn’t you say we’re going to be together forever? Then mine is yours, and yours is mine. There’s no difference.”
“There is…” Shen Chutang’s voice was filled with grievance, dragging out the tone. She threw herself into his arms.
Since there was no difference, why did he give it to her?
Shi Chengyu didn’t expect that giving a gift would make her cry like this. He felt heartbroken and helpless. He patted her back. “Be good, Tangtang, don’t cry. What should Brother Chengyu do? Hmm?”
“You, you can’t give me anything like this next time.” Shen Chutang cried intermittently, her voice muffled.
Shi Chengyu was still smiling. “Okay, I promise. Don’t cry. We have to go home for lunch.”
Shen Chutang rubbed against his chest in defiance, wiping away her tears. “You’re bullying me.”
“Yes, my fault. I apologize to Tangtang. Can Tangtang forgive me?”
Shen Chutang stared at him with watery eyes. “No more next time.”
“Okay.” Shi Chengyu hugged her. “I promise.”
Shi Chengyu said they had to go home for lunch. They were going back to the Shi family’s old house. He had told Shen Chutang a few days ago, unable to hold it in any longer.
Shen Chutang didn’t feel anything. The gifts she needed to bring had already been prepared at home. Shi Chengyu told her they were just going to eat, but he was incredibly nervous.
Shi Tingyue only knew that Shi Chengyu was bringing his beloved back, but he didn’t know it was Shen Chutang.
His precious grandson was bringing someone back for the first time. He used the highest etiquette, sending a car to pick her up.
The Hongqi ceremonial car stopped at the door of the villa. The driver got out and opened the door for her. Shi Chengyu got in after she did.
The roses in the flower beds on the side of the road were blooming beautifully. Shen Chutang leaned against the window and looked out. The driver slowed down accordingly.
Shi Chengyu also leaned over, protecting her waist. “I’ll have people plant some in the yard when you like.”
“Yes, yes, but the ones on the road are prettier.”
Shen Chutang loved flowers and loved to look at them. Whenever she saw them, she would look at them intently.
The car arrived ten minutes later than expected. Shen Chutang watched the car drive into the imposing compound, and suddenly felt a little nervous.
Shen Chutang took Shi Chengyu’s hand and asked him, “Brother Chengyu, are you nervous?”
Shi Chengyu squeezed her palm. “It’s okay. It’s just a meal.”
Shen Chutang nodded, softly humming. She held his hand tighter.
Shi Tingyue was waiting at the door, looking eagerly. When he saw the car stop, he almost ran over to open the door for them.
Fortunately, Shi Chengyu got out quickly, his back to him, protecting someone as he got out of the car.
Shi Tingyue slowly recognized the girl’s appearance. He felt like he had seen her somewhere before.
When Shen Chutang got closer, she smiled sweetly and called out to him, “Grandpa Shi.” He instantly remembered the little daughter of the Shen family.
He looked at Shi Chengyu in disbelief, then looked at Shen Chutang without changing his expression. “Your name is Tangtang, right? Come in, come in.”
“Thank you, Grandpa Shi.”
Shi Chengyu protected her as they walked ahead, bending down and whispering to her, “Tangtang, just smile.”
The interior of the house was decorated in a Chinese style, with a touch of antique charm. When she went inside, Shen Chutang understood what he meant by that.
There were a bunch of people sitting on the sofa. Shi Chengyu’s parents were also there. When they saw them enter, they all stood up.
Shi Chengyu led her inside. “Tangtang, this is my uncle and aunt.”
“Hello, Uncle and Aunt.”
“Oh, you’re Tangtang, right? You’re so beautiful.” Shi Siang, before his brother could answer, had already squeezed over. “Were you tired from the car ride?”
Shi Chengyu introduced them one by one next to her. “This is my aunt.”
Shen Chutang quickly smiled and replied, “Hello, Aunt. I’m not tired.”
“Hello, hello. I didn’t expect Chengyu to bring back such a beautiful girl. He’s really lucky.”
“I’m very lucky to be able to come today, Aunt.”
Shi Chengyu was the youngest child in the family. They hadn’t seen such a lively little girl in a long time. Shi Siang really liked her.
He heard Shen Chutang’s words and laughed heartily. “Okay, you’re better at talking than me.”
“Come sit here.” Shi Siang pulled her to the sofa. Everyone around her smiled and greeted her, and Shen Chutang responded to them all.
Shi Chengyu sat next to her, occasionally bringing her snacks and tea. If she couldn’t answer a question, he would decline for her. At that time, Shen Chutang would turn her head and smile at him.
When it was time for lunch, everyone went to the dining room. Shi Tingyue was getting older, but he had a newfound love for cooking. It was just that he rarely had the opportunity to cook. But today was different. He was in a good mood, so there were a few dishes he made on the table.
Shi Siang said, “Tangtang, don’t be polite. Treat this as your own home.” She said, using the serving chopsticks to pick up some food and put it in Shen Chutang’s bowl.
Shen Chutang smiled sweetly. “Okay, thank you, Aunt. I can do it myself.”
The Shi family had strict rules. They usually didn’t talk at the dinner table. But Shi Siang was rebellious, rebellious since she was a child. Now that she was a parent, she was still the same. It wasn’t because Shi Tingyue spoiled her, but because he really couldn’t do anything about her.
She was a stubborn bone when she was a child. She had been beaten and scolded, but she refused to change. In the end, he let her be.
They were both the only girls in their families. Shen Chutang was spoiled growing up. Shi Siang, on the other hand, was a famous little devil in the compound when she was a child. No one could beat her.
“Tangtang, try this. Grandpa made Dongpo Pork.” Shi Siang used the serving chopsticks to pick up a piece and put it in her bowl. “Don’t look at Grandpa, he’s old, but his cooking skills are still good.”
Shi Tingyue glared at her. If Shen Chutang wasn’t at the dinner table today, he would definitely have scolded her.
Shen Chutang was amused. “Thank you, Aunt.”
Shi Chengyu took her bowl, used a spoon to cut the Dongpo Pork into smaller pieces, and put it back. “Want some?”
“I’ll try it.” Shen Chutang replied softly, smiling faintly. In the end, she ate half of it and gave the other half to Shi Chengyu.
