It isn’t far from Jiang City to Lin City, just a four-hour journey. On the way, An Xun leaned sideways in his seat and dozed off, drooling slightly at the corner of his mouth.
Bo Xiangzhou freed one hand to wipe An Xun’s mouth and gently lifted his chin to close it.
As soon as he did, An Xun woke up. He looked around bewilderedly, his gaze eventually settling on Bo Xiangzhou’s hand, and followed his arm up to his indifferent face.
Maintaining the chin-lifting gesture, Bo Xiangzhou noticed An Xun was awake and started to retract his hand, but An Xun caught it.
With a budding smile, An Xun said, “Let go first. I’m driving. We can play when we get there.”
An Xun muttered, “…you started it.”
“When did I tease you?” Bo Xiangzhou couldn’t help but pinch An Xun’s face.
“You’re going to pinch it swollen. What omega could withstand your pinching every day?” An Xun dodged and gestured, lifting his own chin, “See, just like this, you took advantage while I was asleep.”
“Otherwise—” Bo Xiangzhou drawled, “why don’t you look at your collar again?”
An Xun looked down and noticed a suspicious wet spot on his chest.
Had he drooled?
Seeing Bo Xiangzhou’s wildly grinning mouth, it seemed he had.
An Xun tried to save face, “You didn’t have to mind it, yet you still helped me. You definitely have ulterior motives.”
Then, he shyly added, “Next time, you don’t have to do it sneakily…”
He wasn’t disagreeing; in fact, he was quite willing.
He blocked Bo Xiangzhou’s hand from pinching his face, using the opportunity to voice his request, “How about we make three rules? First, you can’t pinch my face. Second, you can’t pinch my face. And third, just… don’t pinch my face.”
Bo Xiangzhou thought more deeply, “Did I pinch too hard?”
“No, it just feels like you’re pinching a little pet.” An Xun tightened the drawstrings of his hoodie.
Bo Xiangzhou’s tone softened slightly, catching a glimpse of An Xun’s eyes shining with expectation, “How could you feel that way? It’s because I find you cute.”
The light beige drawstrings twined around his fingers, forming the shape of wheat sheaves, “I’m all grown up, and you’re still calling me cute.”
Bo Xiangzhou split his attention, his voice firm, “How old are you? You’re only in your twenties, at the prime of your youth. Any words of praise fit you.”
“You’re exaggerating.” But inside, An Xun felt quite pleased.
“No, trust my judgment, and trust yourself.”
With that, he pinched An Xun’s cheek.
An Xun’s cheeks had gotten fleshier, adding a youthful appearance, pampered daily with delicacies since the divorce talk, making the pinch feel nicer than before.
Sometimes he found it strange; despite eating so much, he didn’t gain weight elsewhere. If it weren’t for the added flesh on his face, he might have suspected An Xun of secretly dieting and purging behind his back.
His face was pinched several times a day; it wasn’t painful, just embarrassing, making him feel like a little child.
Once he had his fill of pinching, An Xun declared, “No, we need to establish those three rules. If you keep pinching, my face will become asymmetrical, and I’ll look ugly in photos.”
“Whether you agree or not, it’s decided.”
An Xun pulled out a chip to bribe him, signing the tyrannical agreement.
Lin City’s scenic spots are worth visiting more than those around Jiang City. Feng Sheng, who worked overtime, booked a centrally located five-star hotel based on the geographical location of the scenic spots.
Everything prepared, An Xun directed Bo Xiangzhou to pack the suitcase and even found couple’s toiletries in the bathroom.
Unsure who prepared them, he tossed them all in the trash can and covered them with wet paper towels.
He hadn’t had his fill of innocent romance yet. The pace couldn’t accelerate this fast, what if it scared Bo Xiangzhou?
That man looked like an ascetic monk.
He needed to prepare in advance, to learn more, lest they fumble when getting to bases and end up like drunken men who can’t even find the door home.
An Xun, like a chieftain touring his territory, tossed out everything unappealing in the presidential suite, inspecting it thoroughly. The suite was clean, even the hard-to-clean corners were dust-free.
He touched it with his finger, catching some minute dust, but it wasn’t dirty, cleaner than his own efforts. Understanding the plight of fellow workers, he gave the housekeeping a five-star rating at the front desk, hoping the hotel would increase their salary.
The hotel provided three meals, but An Xun usually ate four, needing a snack before sleep, depending on how hungry or lazy he felt.
He had checked out several nearby restaurants, waiting to dine there in the evening. He also wanted to prod Bo Xiangzhou to ask if he would join.
After thinking it over, eating two bowls seemed too external; they should share one.
They arrived late today, so he booked tickets for the botanical garden for tomorrow morning. This afternoon, they would first visit the zoo.
Before that, he lay down on the bed to rest, and Bo Xiangzhou lifted his legs, disentangling them. As An Xun tried to wriggle free, he suddenly noticed the ornate ceiling of the presidential suite, adorned with plaster lines and corner decorations resembling lightly colored roses, creating a very delicate and warm atmosphere.
An Xun took a photo to keep as a memory, as the luxury had its reasons.
[Drowned Fish]: Nian Nian, look at this photo. Guess where we are.
He hadn’t even cropped and sent the photo when…
[Nian Nian]: Can’t guess, send me your location.
[Drowned Fish]: You didn’t even look!
[Nian Nian]: Even if I don’t look, I know you’re with Bo Xiangzhou.
[Nian Nian]: I know you love him, but please don’t show off your love in front of me.
An Xun wriggled like a fish, leaning against Bo Xiangzhou, cautiously shifting his phone.
[Drowned Fish]: Not showing off then, I’ll tell you something big.
Tao Nian didn’t reply immediately, waiting for him to share the big news.
[Drowned Fish]: Last night.
[Drowned Fish]: Me and him.
Tao Nian’s fingers pressed almost hard enough to shatter the screen. He kept making typos, retyping a simple sentence several times.
[Nian Nian]: You f***ing, did you sleep with him?!
After sending it, Tao Nian felt relieved. An Xun having a sex life was a good thing; it didn’t matter which alpha he slept with.
It was just about physical pleasure, not about whether he was clean or not.
A husband, when needed, is a husband; when not needed, he’s just a convenient, satisfactory alpha.
[Nian Nian]: How was it? Tell me.
An Xun wanted the contrast.
[Drowned Fish]: Didn’t sleep, but he kissed me.
[Drowned Fish]: Do you understand that feeling?
He hadn’t dated before, guessing the next second An Xun would start advising him about love. Tao Nian dug out a problem that had troubled him for a month.
[Nian Nian]: It’s been a month, shouldn’t you tell me why the Old Madam likes you now?
Seeing those three words, An Xun paused for a few seconds, a faint sadness covering his heart. He rolled to the other side of the bed, hesitated for a moment, then opened the Old Madam’s chat page.
The conversation always ended that morning.
He sent a screenshot.
[Drowned Fish]: This reason is kind of funny.
Even he found it outrageous. The reason the Old Madam took a liking to him was once after work, he bought a grilled sausage and wandered into a fruit shop. A stray dog stopped by his feet and wouldn’t leave. He crouched down and shared half with the dog, but the dog didn’t eat it. Instead, it circled around him, barked a few times, tore the plastic bag, and took an apple away.
At that time, his mouth was so sore from canker sores that he didn’t want to speak, and he didn’t yell at the dog.
He didn’t know how the Old Madam saw him from wherever she was, but it was a twist of fate. At the civil affairs office, among several omegas, she recognized him.
He should thank the canker sores for keeping him silent, otherwise, this arranged marriage would have fallen through.
[Nian Nian]: What does this show? It shows you two are fated.
He wasn’t rushing to find an alpha, but he also harbored some hopes for love.
[Nian Nian]: I hope to find someone fated too someday.
An Xun raised his hand.
[Drowned Fish]: About that, there’s an alpha at my workplace who’s really handsome, just a bit skinny and scholarly. He wears glasses. I’ll find a photo for you on his social media. If you don’t mind, I’ll try to create a chance for you two.
[Drowned Fish]: If you don’t like him, no worries, I’ll have Bo Xiangzhou introduce a bunch to you. He knows many people, you can take your time to choose.
Tao Nian went out to pick up some takeout. The rice noodles with garlic sauce and added rice cakes were steaming hot. He asked for extra vinegar, but the vinegar was barely detectable. He put his phone on the dining table and took the takeout to the kitchen to add more vinegar.
[Nian Nian]: Are you running a talent show? I might like him, but he also has to like me.
[Drowned Fish]: No problem, keep looking if not. We’re not short of one alpha.
[Drowned Fish]: Trust Bo Xiangzhou’s social skills. I’ll dig three feet into the ground to find you a suitable alpha.
An Xun had already put it out there; he rolled back and peeked over the top of his phone, looking down. On the screen, he was giving instructions to his secretary.
Saying he brought him to play was actually an excuse to relax; he just couldn’t say it outright and had fabricated a perfect excuse.
“Bo…” He quickly corrected himself; their relationship wasn’t like before, and calling him ‘President Bo’ felt too distant now, “Husband, after you finish work, I want to discuss something with you.”
Bo Xiangzhou briefly finished up, putting down his phone to listen.
An Xun knelt, his tone as earnest as if in prayer, “Husband, help me find a boyfriend.”
Bo Xiangzhou: “?”
Bo Xiangzhou: “Tired? If you’re tired, go to sleep. Stop talking nonsense.”
As he spoke, he pulled An Xun into his arms, messing up his hair.
Buried in his chest, An Xun felt a bit breathless, “I was wrong!”
“Wrong where?” It was the first time Bo Xiangzhou realized he could get jealous.
An Xun gasped for air, “I wasn’t wrong! I misspoke! I actually wanted you to find a boyfriend for Nian Nian!”
“I’ll trust you this time.”
An Xun crawled out from his embrace, his face flushed. He flailed about, almost punching Bo Xiangzhou in the face, but at the crucial moment, his fist cleverly opened, encircling his neck with his fingers, his thumb lightly pressing on the sexy Adam’s apple.
The kiss from last night seemed to have opened a valve, their eyes now filled with unprecedented affection.
An Xun’s demeanor softened, sheepishly saying, “I’ll let you off this time. If it happens again, watch out for your life.”
He scrutinized Bo Xiangzhou, the abstinent and aloof alpha now willingly under his control, his eyes brimming with laughter, his black shirt revealing half his chest, his body relaxed, a sign of an alpha’s trust in his omega.
What a refined rascal.
At that moment, the desire to strip him bare was at its peak.
An Xun’s heart burst with fireworks. Damn! His husband was really handsome!
He eagerly snuggled up, nestling his head in the crook of Bo Xiangzhou’s neck, his hands modestly climbing his shoulders.
He dared not touch recklessly, fearing Bo Xiangzhou might see through his lustful intentions.
Bo Xiangzhou agreed to his request and immediately had Feng Sheng send over a list.
Anyone remotely connected to Bo Xiangzhou, regardless of their status, was on the list.
An Xun nitpicked, holding these people to the highest standards—those from companies on the brink of bankruptcy, divorcees, those older than Bo Xiangzhou, the ugly or short… none were suitable.
After selecting, only a few remained, just a tier below the Bo family, on par with the Shen and Liu families.
It wasn’t that he thought poorly of Tao Nian, but he felt they wouldn’t spark. He was just lucky; otherwise, he’d be on the road handing out resumes now.
[Drowned Fish]: I’ve looked, Nian Nian, maybe you should rely on yourself?
Tao Nian knew it would end this way.
Bo Xiangzhou’s circle of friends were all elite, a realm he could never touch in his lifetime.
He knew his own worth. If not for An Xun, he’d never have met Bo Xiangzhou. The idea of him introducing someone seemed unbelievable.
If it actually happened, it would be a miracle.
The temperature in Lin City was mild, and they planned to play until evening. When they left, Bo Xiangzhou grabbed a thick coat for him and placed it on the back seat.
The zoo was full of children, and the snacks sold catered to their tastes.
Bo Xiangzhou, knowing An Xun’s preferences better than anyone—sweeter than any child—bought snacks even the kids wouldn’t eat.
So, not long after they entered the zoo and encountered a candied hawthorn seller, Bo Xiangzhou held An Xun’s hand, scanning each stick and picked the one with the most sugar coating.
Wanting to spare Bo Xiangzhou’s feelings, An Xun tiptoed and whispered in his ear, “I like the fruit ones; the hawthorn is too sour.”
