Chapter 25.3
She had been in the hospital for so long that Zhou Dahu was sentenced to death. Even his powerful father-in-law couldn’t help, as he was struggling to save himself.
Zhou Peng, the accomplice, was also imprisoned, with no chance of release for at least twenty years.
Lin Yujiao received a lighter sentence of only two years. She was rumored to have gone mad in prison, muttering things like “I am the wife of a rich man.”
Now, if she returned, no one would dare to trouble her.
Thinking about it, returning wasn’t so bad.
Ruan Mingfu took a sip of porridge and looked up at Xie Yanzhao’s appearance, shocked.
He looked like he hadn’t slept all night, with red veins in his eyes and a stubbly chin…
“Why didn’t you come back last night?”
Xie Yanzhao had stayed with her initially because she had nightmares. When she was better, he had slept in the next room with a male patient. She had gone to sleep very late and didn’t hear any sounds of doors opening or closing.
The man hadn’t come back all night!
Xie Yanzhao didn’t respond directly, “Have you finished eating?”
Ruian Mingfu: “…”
It was clear that something was going on with the man!
After breakfast, Ruan Mingfu said to Xie Yanzhao, who was packing things up, “I’m going out for a bit. I’ll be back soon!”
She took out the silk scarf from her bag.
She had ordered it from her so-called friend Gu Yilin to thank the aunts who had helped her.
The aunts had spoken up for her and had even gone to the leaders to report the situation when both she and Xie Yanzhao were taken to the police station. They had exerted a lot of effort, and it was said that their complaint had even reached higher authorities.
Such lovely aunts deserved a proper thank you.
Ruian Mingfu fluttered through the wards like a beautiful butterfly, carrying the scarves.
Don’t ask!
If you did, she would tell you that she personally selected each scarf based on the aunts’ tastes, making them feel very content. The aunts looked at Ruan Mingfu with such affectionate eyes that one would think she was their own daughter.
When she returned to the ward with the aunts’ return gifts, she found Xu Zhu there too.
“Sister-in-law, I’m here,” Xu Zhu said, glaring at the stiff Xie Yanzhao who didn’t seem to be helping, and quickly stepped forward. “Why so many things?”
If it weren’t for the current business restrictions, Xu Zhu would have thought she had gone shopping for supplies.
Ruan Mingfu wiped the sweat from her forehead, “They were all given by the aunts.”
The aunts were so enthusiastic that even when she said no, they insisted on giving her more.
“Sister-in-law, have some water to cool down.”
Xu Zhu brought a glass of water over, and Ruan Mingfu took a sip.
With a smile like a blooming flower, she said, “Thank you, Comrade Xu.”
Sitting to the side, Xie Yanzhao’s expression was as cold and unreadable as ever. His thin lips were pressed together, and the veins on the back of his hand twitched.
He simply stood up and said, “Let’s go.”
Xie Yanzhao lifted the items with one hand.
Downstairs, Xie Yanzhao placed the items on the back seat before heading to the driver’s seat.
Ruan Mingfu, seeing this, could only sit in the front seat.
Xu Zhu looked at the cluttered back seat and asked helplessly, “Where should I sit?”
“Just squeeze in the back,” Xie Yanzhao seemed to be in a good mood, “Or do you want to squeeze in with me?”
“Get lost, who wants to squeeze with you.”
Xu Zhu organized the mess in the back seat to clear a spot. As soon as he sat down, Xie Yanzhao started the car.
Having not returned for several days, Ruan Mingfu found the roadside weeds much more pleasant to look at.
When the car entered the educated youth camp, Ruan Mingfu was greeted by the stares of everyone.
Her room had been locked since she left.
Everyone at the educated youth camp was watching, and no one would sneak in to take things.
Xu Pandi tried to show a jealous face but, thinking about Ruan Mingfu’s combat skills, quickly forced a stiff smile.
That smile was so awkward it was almost painful to look at.
After Xu Zhu and Xie Yanzhao helped her move her things into the house, Xie Yanzhao finally said, “We’ll head back first. If you need anything, come to the Wu family’s place at the village entrance.”
“Got it.”
Ruan Mingfu waved her hand impatiently, successfully silencing Xie Yanzhao.
“Be careful and lock the door at night.”
Ruan Mingfu couldn’t understand why the man was being so nagging today.
She waved her hand with increasing impatience, “I know~”
Xie Yanzhao: “…”
After the two men left, the female educated youths swarmed around Ruan Mingfu, trapping her in the center.
“Educated Youth Ruan, tell us how you came up with a way to deal with the Zhou family!”
“It was amazing, Educated Youth Ruan. Teach us how to handle similar situations in the future!”
“Move away, Educated Youth Ruan just got back and you’re already asking her questions left and right, so rude!” Hu Lihong pushed everyone aside and went to Ruan Mingfu’s side. “Educated Youth Ruan, how did Zhou Dahu fall? Just tell us about it.”
Ruan Mingfu: “…”
Facing the expectant eyes of these people, Ruan Mingfu sighed deeply as if in profound thought.
Honestly, today was the day she and the original owner were most popular at the educated youth camp.
“Hasn’t this been announced already?” Ruan Mingfu continued, “If you want me to explain, I can only say that justice is clear and unyielding. People should do fewer bad things.”
Zhu Hong nodded, “That’s right!”
Seeing Ruan Mingfu looking at her, Zhu Hong blushed and smiled sweetly.
“Educated Youth Ruan, you’ve been in the county for so many days. Was there anything fun there?”
What could be fun in the county?
A seven-day hospital tour?
Hu Lihong pushed the educated youth away, “Can’t you see Educated Youth Ruan just got back and needs to rest? How come none of you have any manners?”
The educated youth knew this was reasonable and grumbled:
“I’ve never been to the county, so I want to hear what Educated Youth Ruan has to say.”
“I just want to know about Zhou Dahu. Educated Youth Ruan, please tell us.”
“Really, how thick-skinned are you all? Does Educated Youth Ruan usually get along with you? You just come running over, how shameless can you be?”
“You!”
“Alright, alright, stop shouting…”
“Okay, everyone, quiet down…”
Having already slipped away, Ruan Mingfu looked at the crowd below, shrugged, and slammed the room door shut.
The educated youths were all trying to outshout each other, and Ruan Mingfu’s ears were still buzzing.
…
On the other side.
The imposing military vehicle was parked at the Wu family’s door, but its occupants remained inside.
Xu Zhu saw his expression and knew something was up.
“What’s wrong?” Xu Zhu turned and asked, “Did your father call you again?”
Xie Yanzhao remained silent.
After a long silence in the car, Xie Yanzhao finally spoke calmly, “I saw my grandparents.”
Xu Zhu’s eyes lit up, “Grandpa Bai is here? Why didn’t you tell me? Where are they? I need to visit them.”
“Don’t even think about it. In recent years, even I don’t want to see my grandpa anymore.”
Xu Zhu patted Xie Yanzhao on the shoulder, saying everything.
Xie Yanzhao sat in the car, his eyes dark and fierce. The thought of the man he called father filled him with disgust.
The Bai and Xie families were in-laws, and now their relationship was the most strained.
Initially, the two families had a good relationship. But after his mother died because of Commander Xie, and he quickly married a nanny within a year, Xie Yanzhao, who was still young, suffered greatly under his stepmother.
When the nanny got pregnant, thinking she had leverage, she framed Xie Yanzhao.
However, her luck was bad, and the baby actually miscarried.
Xie Yanzhao would never forget that day.
He was slapped by Commander Xie, beaten until his skin was lacerated, and punished to kneel outside. It rained heavily that day, and the rain pelted painfully. In the dead of winter, the coldest time of the year, his so-called father comforted the nanny inside while he froze outside for two hours.
With a bruised and swollen face, he was curled up in a ball.
If Old Master Bai hadn’t arrived in time, whether Xie Yanzhao could have grown up to this day would be uncertain.
It was from this moment that the relationship between the Bai and Xie families officially severed.
From that day on, Xie Yanzhao never returned to the military compound.
As Xie Yanzhao grew up and began to make a name for himself in the military, Commander Xie once again thought of his son, acting as if he were his father everywhere.
In recent years, he has been increasingly eager to interfere in Xie Yanzhao’s marriage.
Xie Yanzhao curled his lips into a sneer, his eyes filled with a fierce and chilling intent.
Daydreaming!
Xu Zhu naturally knew about Xie Yanzhao’s plight and never advised him to give up, “Commander Xie is not someone who would easily give up.”
Xie Yanzhao scoffed.
Clearly, he didn’t take his enemy’s father seriously.
Xie Yanzhao opened the car door and jumped out. Looking at the verdant green mountains, he sighed, “This really is a nice place.”
Xu Zhu, who had disembarked a bit slower, thought, “…”
You must be joking!
It’s only a good place because your sister Ruan is here.
……
The next morning, the village, which had finally enjoyed a few days of calm, was once again startled by shocking news.
“Oh no! Old Zhou’s wife went to find Educated Youth Ruan with a hoe, saying that she wanted her to pay with her life!”
