After breaking free from that strange state, Li Po took a shower and then laid down on his bed.
Propping himself up, he opened the bedside drawer and pulled out a suppressor patch. Even in his own dorm room, Li Po was extremely cautious. He tore off the patch’s thin protective film and smoothly applied it to the back of his neck. His movements were fluid, without hesitation. To ensure the patch was securely in place, he closed his eyes and pressed down on it again.
He buried his face in the soft white bedding, bracing himself to experience that sensation again. But even after making sure the edges of the suppressor patch were tightly sealed to his skin, Li Po didn’t feel anything. The sensation had completely disappeared, as if it had never existed.
—Weird.
A moment later, Li Po’s face turned cold as he suppressed the absurd emptiness welling up inside. He withdrew his hand from the back of his neck.
In his current state, it wasn’t a good idea for him to go anywhere with a lot of Alphas, but almost everywhere in S District was filled with Alphas. So, all he could do was stay idle in his dorm room, waiting for his heat to arrive. Although Bian Lu hadn’t told him exactly when it would come and his original body had no experience with this, Li Po figured it wouldn’t take too long.
Thinking about this, he reached for a pillow to tuck under his head for a nap. But as his hand touched the pillow, he suddenly felt something hard—the communicator.
He paused, then changed course, abandoning the lonely pillow and pulling out the communicator instead.
Although he hadn’t used it much, he knew the communicator had very limited functions. Combatants could only use it to communicate with others, and that was about it. You couldn’t even browse the Starnet with it.
At first, Li Po didn’t think much of it. But after seeing Jiang Yu use his Star Brain in his room, Li Po became curious—why could Jiang Yu use a Star Brain, but others couldn’t?
Was it to prevent combatants from leaking military secrets?
Pondering this, Li Po turned on the communicator. He hadn’t touched it in a while, and upon opening it, he noticed a small red dot had appeared in the lower left corner. Li Po couldn’t stand seeing those red dots, so he tapped it.
[Friend Request—Lan Deng]
[Friend Request—Jin Mu]
And a bunch of random friend requests from people whose names he didn’t recognize.
“…”
Li Po stared at the two friend requests in silence.
He couldn’t help but wonder, how on earth did they get his contact information?
Suddenly, Li Po sat up straighter, his posture becoming serious. With the communicator in his left hand, he scrolled through the friend requests with his right.
Yang Guang, Hai Lang, Sha Tan, Xian Renzhang…
As he scrolled, Li Po muttered to himself about how strange these names were. Then his hand suddenly stopped, and his eyes narrowed slightly, his face instinctively drawing closer to the screen.
There it was, a small line of text on the screen:
[Friend Request—Hong Teng]
Li Po: …
Damn, he really felt like swearing.
Quickly reaching the bottom of the friend request list, Li Po’s fists clenched tightly, and with a satisfying tap, he hit the “Reject” button on Hong Teng’s request. After that, he felt much better and proceeded to reject all the others, leaving only Jin Mu and Lan Deng’s requests.
After some thought, he decided to accept the two friend requests. One reason was that both of them had helped him before, and another was that he might need their assistance in the future.
The next moment, a message popped up instantly:
Lan Deng: [You really left me hanging for so long, such a heartless Omega.]
“…”
Li Po: [Just saw it.]
Lan Deng: [Do I look like someone who’s easy to fool?]
Li Po had expected him to say something like that. He glanced at the message, didn’t reply, and directly closed the chat window with Lan Deng.
He intended to toss the communicator aside, but before he could raise his hand, another message appeared.
Jin Mu: [How’s your body?]
Li Po: [I’m fine.]
Jin Mu: [Good.]
Jin Mu: [Drink more hot water and get plenty of rest.]
After receiving the message, Li Po stared at those few words for a long time, feeling oddly amused. The phrase “drink more hot water” never seemed to get old, no matter where it was used.
He put the communicator down, intending not to reply, but then something came to mind, and he picked it up again to ask:
[By the way, why don’t you guys use Star Brains?]
Since putting down his food tray, Jin Mu hadn’t touched his chopsticks. He held his communicator with a serious expression, as if dealing with an incredibly difficult task.
His companion, noticing this, didn’t dare to disturb him and quietly stuffed rice into his mouth, watching Jin Mu’s face as he ate.
As he watched, the companion suddenly realized something was off. What could require that much attention?
“Jin Mu, what are you looking at?” he asked, leaning in as if to peek.
Jin Mu was usually quite open and had nothing to hide, so the companion was only joking and didn’t really intend to look. Besides, all the tasks in S District were encrypted, so even if Jin Mu was reviewing a mission, there’d be no fear of leaking anything.
However, before he could even get half an inch closer to the light screen, Jin Mu quickly pulled the communicator away. “Why are you getting so close?”
The companion was stunned, incredulously rubbing his ears. “What did you just say?”
But Jin Mu didn’t spare him a glance. He simply shifted his position and returned his focus to the communicator.
Something was definitely off.
Could it be…
At that moment, Jin Mu’s face was expressionless, his eyes fixed on the message from the Omega, and his mind raced as he pondered how to respond.
After all, he almost never made small talk on the communicator. He was always to the point—business was business, and no chit-chat if there was nothing to discuss. Even that concerned message he’d sent earlier had taken him ages to come up with. He hadn’t wanted to send it, but he also wanted to leave a good impression on the Omega. So, after a brief internal struggle, he had sent it out.
He hadn’t expected a reply. But now, faced with the Omega initiating a conversation, Jin Mu felt a little flattered.
Could that line really have worked so well?
If so, he’d have to use it more often in the future.
Just as Jin Mu was about to reply, the system suddenly pinged with a message—mission dispatch notification.
The moment he saw the notification, Jin Mu immediately set aside his other thoughts. He didn’t reply to the Omega, but instead, his expression turned serious as he opened the notification bar.
The system indicated that he had a B-level mission scheduled in two days, with a team of three.
Jin Mu carefully reviewed the mission details and checked the team member list, silently noting the names.
Zong Tai, Yang Guang.
–
Ding—
Zong Mao hadn’t slept well for several nights, weighed down by his troubles. During training, he was sluggish, unable to summon any energy.
When the communicator pinged, he thought it was another message from some Alpha. Yawning, he casually tapped the light screen open.
The next second, his entire body stiffened. His mouth, still hanging open, froze in shock.
A mission.
And it was happening soon, in just two days.
Normally, he wouldn’t think much of it, but the incident with Hong Mao had just occurred. How could a mission suddenly appear right after that?
As Zong Mao’s thoughts spiraled, unable to make a decision, his gaze landed on the team member list—Jin Mu, Yang Guang.
…Wait, Jin Mu?!
At the sight of the Alpha’s name, Zong Mao’s pupils shrank, and he barely managed to maintain his composure.
How could this be? The incident with Hong Mao had just happened, and now the system had assigned him a mission, and his teammate was none other than the Alpha connected to the Omega?
The realization hit him like a cold wave, chilling Zong Mao from head to toe.
Suddenly, a sense of dread washed over him.
If he hadn’t gone to find Di Kai, hadn’t learned information about the Omega from him, hadn’t followed the Omega, and hadn’t witnessed his conversation with Jin Mu… would he be walking blindly into a trap right now, like a clueless fly?
…Heh.
Zong Mao gripped the communicator tightly, his expression dark. He muttered through clenched teeth, “Trying to take me down? You’re not quite there yet.”
“Just wait and see.”
