Pollution Source Screening Office.
Yu San stood outside the door, gripping a bottle of eye drops, looking a bit uneasy. He hesitated for a moment, glanced at the Omega beside him, and finally mustered the courage to ask, “Can you come in with me?”
Li Po noticed the fear in the Alpha’s eyes. The next second, he smiled and nodded at him, “Sure, I was getting bored just standing out here anyway.”
As soon as Yu San heard that, his ears turned red instantly, and his face heated up. Although he wasn’t sure if the Omega had noticed his embarrassment, the fact that he didn’t mind and was even willing to accompany him for the test made Yu San’s heart warm up, his pulse quickening.
Yu San, though an Alpha, was different from the combat personnel in S District. He was only responsible for research, and he had nothing to do with all the fighting and killing. This also meant that even though he dealt with pollution samples every day, he had never encountered a living pollutant, let alone been parasitized by one. Just the thought of it made his scalp tingle, and his heart raced with anxiety.
Creak—
The door opened, and Yu San went in first, with Li Po following closely behind.
Inside sat a doctor in a white coat. Upon seeing Yu San, the doctor nodded in greeting, “Bringing in another sample for testing? Hand it over.”
As he spoke, he extended a hand, clad in specially designed protective gloves, ready to take the sample.
Seeing this, Yu San forced a strained smile and stepped forward, trembling as he reached out to grasp the doctor’s hand, “Sen De, it’s me this time.”
Hearing that, Sen De immediately scowled and swatted his hand away. “I’m at work, be serious.”
Yu San was on the verge of tears. “It really is me.”
Then he explained the whole situation to Sen De.
It wasn’t until that moment that Sen De realized the seriousness of the matter. He shot up from his chair and, at the same time, finally noticed that the person following behind Yu San was actually an Omega.
“Why is it you?” Sen De asked in surprise, focusing on Li Po.
Wasn’t this the same Omega who had been taken hostage at Training Ground No. 2?
Li Po hadn’t expected to run into the same doctor who had examined him before, and once again it was because of pollutants. Realizing this, he sheepishly rubbed his nose. “Yes, it’s me, Dr. Sen. Long time no see.”
Yu San clearly hadn’t expected these two to know each other. Despite that, he introduced them, “Sen De, this is the Omega who thought there was something wrong with my eyes. Can you check me and see if he’s right?”
“…”
Sen De was bewildered. He stared at the Omega for a long time, until Yu San started to feel uncomfortable and stepped in front of the Omega to block his gaze. Only then did Sen De snap out of it and retrieve the testing equipment from the shelf behind him. “Come over here.”
The procedure was the same as what Li Po had experienced before.
Sen De inserted a short needle into Yu San’s blood vessel, drawing a tube of bright red blood. He then picked up a nearby container and guided the blood into it, shaking it gently.
At the bottom of the container was still a layer of pale yellow liquid. But unlike Li Po’s situation, the moment the blood was injected into the container, it sank rapidly and began devouring the yellow liquid at an alarming rate. Soon, the entire container was filled with red blood.
Sen De’s expression changed drastically. His face turned pale as he stared at the container in shock, his pupils trembling. “This… this can’t be…”
“What’s wrong?!” Yu San, seeing Sen De’s reaction, was suddenly overcome with a sense of dread.
The next moment, a cold and clear voice came from behind him:
“You’re parasitized.”
Yu San’s whole body stiffened as he turned in shock towards the source of the voice.
The Omega was standing there, staring at the container with a serious expression, his emotions hard to read. Yu San had expected the Omega to quickly step away or take a big step back upon learning he was parasitized. But to his surprise, the Omega simply stood there, showing no signs of panic.
Yu San had never seen an Omega so calm and composed.
His mood, which had been chaotic and panicked, suddenly stabilized under the influence of the Omega’s demeanor. Suddenly, he thought of something and pulled out his communicator from his pocket. “No matter what, we need to report this immediately!”
“Yes, yes,” Sen De snapped out of his daze, tapping anxiously on the edge of the table, his face full of urgency.
After a while, Yu San looked up, wiping the cold sweat from his forehead. “The Administrator is not currently in S District. The only one we could reach is the Combat Officer, and he says he’s on his way.”
“Great!” Sen De exhaled heavily, as if a weight had been lifted off his shoulders, and collapsed into his chair.
Wait… who’s on their way?
Li Po looked up belatedly, glancing at the two of them. He wanted to ask, but then decided it wasn’t really necessary, so he didn’t. The container of blood still sat on the table, and he couldn’t help but glance at it, feeling a bit uneasy.
Creak—
Suddenly, the door to the temporary resting room opened from the outside.
In the next moment, besides Li Po, the other two turned towards the door and saluted respectfully.
“…”
Li Po’s eye twitched as he faced away from the door. He was just about to turn around to see who had such a grand entrance, but in the next moment, he heard a cold voice:
“What’s going on?”
At that instant, Li Po’s body froze. Not for any other reason, but because he recognized that voice. He had just heard it not long ago.
How was it that they had only been apart for a few hours, and they were meeting again?!
Li Po wanted to play dead, but he had no choice but to face reality. After struggling for a moment, he finally turned around slowly, coming face to face with Jiang Yu:
“Hello, Officer.”
Jiang Yu clearly hadn’t expected to see the Omega at the fourth floor of White Tower. He frowned slightly, his face stern as he asked, “Why are you here?”
Li Po’s lips moved as he was about to explain, but before he could, a figure suddenly stepped in front of him, blocking Jiang Yu’s cold gaze.
It was Yu San.
At that moment, Li Po was filled with gratitude.
“Officer, I’ve been parasitized by a pollutant.” After ensuring that the Omega was completely shielded, Yu San finally swallowed nervously and spoke up.
Others might not notice, but only Yu San knew how scared he was right now. The Combat Officer’s gaze was so cold that even he, an Alpha, found it unbearable. Not to mention a gentle and beautiful Omega.
Moreover, the fourth floor of White Tower was typically off-limits to unauthorized personnel. Although the Omega had been approved by Dr. Bian, the Combat Officer wasn’t aware of this. To prevent the Omega from being reprimanded, Yu San decided to step up and divert attention.
Sure enough, the Combat Officer retracted his gaze and stared at him expressionlessly.
For some reason, Yu San suddenly felt the temperature drop several degrees, a chill crawling up from his feet and freezing his spine for a moment. Even so, under the intense pressure of that gaze, Yu San gritted his teeth and explained the situation in full detail.
When he finished speaking, the air around them fell silent.
Under Yu San’s anxious gaze, Jiang Yu, without much expression, pulled out his gun from behind his waist, his eyes devoid of emotion.
Noticing Jiang Yu’s action, Yu San trembled violently. He opened his mouth, wanting to plead, but in the end, he said nothing, simply accepting his fate and closing his eyes.
After all, being parasitized by a pollutant was a confirmed fact. It would be more surprising if the Officer didn’t kill him. S District had always followed the principle of “better to kill a thousand wrongly than let one escape.” As a carrier of a parasite, Yu San could become a pollution source at any moment, a potential disaster that could destroy S District.
Just as Yu San closed his eyes tightly, bracing himself for a bullet to the head, a voice suddenly came from behind:
“Wait a minute.”
At the same time, Jiang Yu’s finger on the trigger paused slightly. He lifted his eyes, looking calmly at the Omega, who had stepped out from behind the Alpha and was now walking towards him. The Omega stopped in front of him and raised a hand to cover the gun’s muzzle. “Officer, I think we can talk about this.”
Upon hearing this, Sen De, who had been silently watching, was utterly dumbfounded. Was this Omega out of his mind? How dare he block the Officer’s gun? Didn’t he know that the Officer was known for his decisiveness? Wasn’t he afraid that the Officer would get annoyed and shoot him?
At the same time, Yu San, who had sneaked a peek, was also stunned. He looked on in disbelief as the Omega stood in front of him like a guardian angel.
But that didn’t mean Yu San agreed with the Omega’s actions. He had the same concerns as Sen De, fearing that the Officer would lose his temper and punish the Omega as well. Just as Yu San was about to step forward and pull the Omega back, he noticed out of the corner of his eye that the Officer had lowered the gun.
Yu San: ???
Sen De: ???
At that moment, both of them were frozen in shock.
But Jiang Yu merely lowered the gun, nothing more. He didn’t seem inclined to say anything, merely looking coldly at the Omega.
Li Po didn’t back down. On the contrary, he felt that there was still a chance.
So, he took a step closer and whispered, “Officer, I think this Alpha can still be saved. He’s different from the other two.”
Since the two Alphas present didn’t know about the first parasitized case, and to prevent them from overhearing, Li Po leaned in even closer and lowered his voice further:
“The first Alpha was parasitized in the stomach; all his organs were gone, but he still kept his sanity and perished alongside the pollutant. The second Alpha was parasitized in the forehead, and by the time he was discovered, the pollutant had already laid eggs, which was beyond saving. But even then, that Alpha retained his sanity and even took me hostage.”
At this point, a hint of grievance crept into Li Po’s voice. He quickly suppressed it and continued:
“But this Alpha is different. He’s only parasitized in the eye, and the extent is shallow. I’ve observed carefully—the blood vessels in his eye are the parasite, but it hasn’t spread beyond the eye. So I was thinking, if we just remove the eyes, maybe the Alpha can survive?”
As Li Po earnestly shared his theory, Jiang Yu suddenly frowned.
The Omega was standing too close.
Li Po, focused on closing the distance to speak quietly, hadn’t realized that he was nearly pressed up against Jiang Yu.
Although there was still some space between them, from Yu San and Sen De’s perspective, it looked as if the Omega was leaning right into Jiang Yu’s chest, leaving no gap at all.
What shocked them most of all was that Jiang Yu didn’t push the Omega away.
Sen De was thoroughly shaken, his face blank with astonishment at the seemingly intimate position of the two, almost dropping his jaw in disbelief.
As for Yu San, his heart was filled with complex emotions, mostly jealousy. He knew the Omega was pleading with the Officer to save him, but seeing them so close together, his heart was full of bitterness.
The Omega had never stood that close to him…
Just as Yu San was wallowing in his jealousy, Li Po finally noticed that Jiang Yu seemed distracted. He tilted his head up and, with wide eyes, called out softly, “Officer?”
Jiang Yu, hearing the voice, lowered his eyes, meeting the Omega’s gaze directly.
The Omega’s eyes were upturned at the corners, like fox eyes, staring at him with an innocent and harmless expression. He was standing so close, and Jiang Yu could even catch a faint whiff of the scent coming from the back of his neck—a light, subtle smell, completely different from the overwhelming scent during the accidental heat.
“…”
Realizing what he was thinking, Jiang Yu suddenly felt irritated. He lifted his right hand, which still held the gun, and used it to push the Omega back a bit. “Do as you suggested.”
Li Po was momentarily stunned. Did he just say… remove the eyes?
