At this moment, Li Po didn’t notice Jiang Yu’s actions, or rather, he didn’t really care.
After getting Jiang Yu’s approval, Li Po took a small step back and turned to face Yu San, “Have you researched parasites before? Do you know if they can be separated from the human body?”
Yu San was taken aback, then scratched his head awkwardly. “Yeah, I’m one of the researchers responsible for parasite samples. But the samples we had were already inactive, so we didn’t come up with anything useful…”
Li Po nodded in understanding. No wonder the pollution sample related to Hong Mao had been destroyed so quickly after the incident. It wasn’t just to give the combat team an explanation, but because the samples had already lost their value.
Thinking about this, Li Po concealed his thoughts and spoke calmly, “Why don’t we give it a try?”
Yu San’s mind was already in disarray, so when he heard the Omega speak, he misunderstood Li Po’s meaning entirely. “…Try?”
Try what? Was it what he thought?
Maybe happiness came too suddenly, because Yu San’s heart became unstable for a moment. When he looked at the calm and composed Omega again, a faint blush appeared on his cheeks, entirely out of place.
At the same time, Yu San’s mind was a mess, thinking, “Why is this Omega so open-minded, and in front of others too…”
But Li Po didn’t notice anything strange about the Alpha. He simply nodded lightly, “Yeah, let’s try.”
With the Omega’s double confirmation, Yu San’s heart was in his throat. He opened his mouth, about to say something, but the Omega interrupted him:
“White Tower’s medical technology is quite advanced. If we try to extract the parasite from your body, there might still be a chance to save your life.”
At this point, he gave the Alpha a reassuring look. “From what I’ve observed, the extent of your parasitization doesn’t seem too deep. There might still be hope.”
It was as if a bucket of cold water had been dumped on his head. The blush on Yu San’s face faded completely, leaving him frozen in place, filled with embarrassment. “So that’s what you meant…”
Hearing this, Li Po was a bit puzzled. He raised an eyebrow and looked at the Alpha, as if studying his reaction.
When Yu San unintentionally met the Omega’s gaze, an absurd thought flashed through his mind—he felt like the person in front of him had seen right through him. Although the Omega looked gentle, with a faint smile in his eyes, Yu San felt as if those light brown eyes had completely read his inner thoughts.
…How could that be possible?
Yu San was startled, goosebumps rising on his arms, but he quickly convinced himself otherwise, pushing down the ridiculous notion. He must have been mistaken. The Omega was pure and cute, nothing like someone with deep schemes. There was no way he could see through him so easily. Besides, it was his own dirty thoughts towards the Omega that were the problem. He should reflect on himself.
With that in mind, Yu San cleared his throat and awkwardly said, “Okay, I’ll listen to you.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, Sen De, standing nearby, suddenly made a strange expression. He looked at Yu San with a complicated gaze, as if he had just discovered something astonishing.
If he was honest with himself, Sen De had known Yu San for many years and had never heard him speak in this kind of tone before. How should he describe it? His tone was light, almost indulgent, like… like he was coaxing his Omega.
In that instant, a chill ran down Sen De’s spine. He quickly rubbed his arms, trying to get rid of the goosebumps that had popped up from the overwhelming sense of cringe.
This was unbearable.
Suddenly, Sen De thought of something. Still rubbing his goosebumps, he turned his head slightly, glancing mischievously at the Omega, curious to see his reaction.
But the Omega wasn’t behaving as Sen De had expected. From his angle, he could only see the Omega calmly retract his gaze, then slightly turn to look at him.
“…???”
Wait, what’s the Omega going to do now?!
The next moment, Sen De heard a soft, pleasant voice, “Dr. Sen, you’ll be helping too, won’t you?”
“…” Sen De was almost in tears. Was this the legendary ‘standing in the corner and still getting hit by a pot out of nowhere’?
But with the Officer standing right there, there was no way Sen De could say no. So, he gritted his teeth, forcing a smile. “Of course.”
Only then did Li Po seem satisfied, retracting his gaze.
Suddenly, he thought of something and turned towards Jiang Yu. “Officer, is there anything else you need to instruct?”
As expected, Jiang Yu coldly glanced at him without any expression.
Li Po felt a chill down his spine, but instead of looking away, he gave a sweet and soft smile, his eyes curving as he continued to look at Jiang Yu, showing no intention of backing down.
Hmph, let’s see who’s afraid of who.
Sure enough, the next second, he heard Jiang Yu speak. “No.”
…He knew it.
But Li Po didn’t want to meddle too much. He had said all that needed to be said, and now it was up to the Alpha’s fate. If removing the eyes could really save him, then Li Po would consider it a good deed. If not, well, he had tried his best.
While Li Po was lost in thought, a group of people suddenly rushed in from outside. They were all dressed in tight protective suits, and as soon as they entered, they surrounded Yu San, sealing off any exit.
The lead Alpha, upon seeing Jiang Yu, gave a sharp salute. “Officer, we’ll take it from here.”
Jiang Yu nodded slightly, then re-holstered his gun and turned to leave.
“Wait…” At the same time, Li Po suddenly thought of something and took a step forward, intending to follow.
But before he could take another step, a stern-faced Alpha blocked his path. “Stop. You need to stay for pollution screening before you can leave.”
“But the Officer didn’t—” Li Po started to argue.
Unexpectedly, the Alpha frowned deeply upon hearing that, his voice stern as he snapped, “Show some respect to the Officer!”
“…” Well, guess I’m not qualified then.
At that moment, Yu San spoke up at the right time, “The parasite is in my eye. The Omega didn’t touch me, so he doesn’t need to be tested.”
Seeing this, Sen De glanced meaningfully at Yu San, then added, “Yes, he doesn’t need to.”
Only then did the Alpha’s frown ease. He cast a somewhat impatient glance at Li Po before gesturing with his head, “Hurry up and get out.”
Tsk, Li Po was speechless.
But he had more important things to do, so he didn’t have time to argue with the Alpha. After some thought, he decided to mentally roll his eyes at the Alpha to show his frustration. After that, he swiftly made his exit.
Inside the room, Yu San kept his gaze fixed on the Omega’s back, only looking away long after he had disappeared through the door.
If nothing went wrong, this might be the last time he’d see the Omega.
If he could, he wanted to imprint that figure into his memory, hoping it would stay with him for a long time, to help guide him through the long, dark nights ahead.
–
Li Po hadn’t expected Jiang Yu to leave so quickly.
It had only been half a minute, and all that was left for him was an empty corridor.
Li Po cracked his knuckles, and without thinking much, he headed straight for the light elevator, quickly pressing the button for the first floor.
Finally, he caught up with Jiang Yu in the empty space about 100 meters in front of White Tower’s south gate.
Although Li Po was in good shape and trained regularly, he couldn’t overcome the limitations of his Omega body. After just a bit of running, he was panting heavily, his face flushed as if he’d just plowed through a field, standing in front of Jiang Yu, blocking his way.
Jiang Yu hadn’t expected Li Po to appear suddenly. He stopped and frowned at the Omega.
Li Po was anxious, and before he could catch his breath, he blurted out, but as soon as the word “Officer” left his mouth, his voice took on a strange tone. His pitch went up, and the tail of his words dragged out softly, making it sound… not quite right.
Even Li Po himself was grossed out by the sound of his own voice. Feeling creeped out, he quickly took a few deep breaths until his voice finally returned to normal.
“Officer, I have something I want to ask you.”
“Ask.” Jiang Yu was as brief as ever.
Li Po looked up seriously, meeting his gaze, “I want to leave S District.”
As soon as the words came out, Jiang Yu’s brow furrowed, and he rejected him firmly, “No.”
“Why not?” Li Po wasn’t convinced.
He wasn’t actually an E-level mental power user. He wasn’t worse than those A-level Alphas. Even if Omega’s physical abilities couldn’t compare to Alpha’s, there were other ways to make up for that. Except for the heat period, it wasn’t that big of a deal. Plus, Li Po had asked Bian Lu, and he said that the heat period followed a pattern. As long as he calculated the days and avoided that time, he would be no different from a regular Alpha, maybe even stronger.
So why couldn’t he go out?!
“It’s dangerous outside,” Jiang Yu replied concisely.
“But how could it be more dangerous than S District?” Li Po retorted immediately. “Officer, have you forgotten? The first time we met was at a parasite incident. If it had only been once, that’d be one thing. But it happened again, and again! Isn’t that a bit too much of a coincidence?”
He stared stubbornly at Jiang Yu, like he was waiting for an answer.
But Jiang Yu’s face remained as calm as ever, no trace of emotion. He simply stared at Li Po quietly, his eyes cold and distant.
After a while, he spoke in a calm voice, “Don’t wander around aimlessly.”
“…?”
Li Po was truly frustrated now. When had he ever wandered aimlessly?!
Just as Jiang Yu lifted his foot to leave, Li Po, out of options, steeled himself and took a few quick steps forward, grabbing Jiang Yu’s sleeve. “Officer, your reason isn’t convincing me.”
Jiang Yu stopped. He glanced down at the Omega’s hand crumpling his sleeve, then looked back up at him, and suddenly, a sense of authority filled his gaze, making it impossible to ignore.
“…” Li Po felt a pang of anxiety under that gaze. He quickly realized that being confrontational wasn’t going to work. Changing his approach, he softened his voice. “Officer, I really do want to leave.”
The Omega was undeniably good-looking, with messy black hair falling over his forehead, softening the sharpness in his eyes. When he acted pitiful, it looked completely natural. At that moment, there was still a bit of flush left on his face, and when he looked up at Jiang Yu with those light brown eyes, there was nothing in them but the reflection of the person he was looking at.
No Alpha could resist an Omega whose eyes held only them—except Jiang Yu. He avoided the Omega’s gaze, pulling his wrinkled sleeve free as he replied coldly, “Go find Jing Lun.”
Li Po felt wronged. “You’re just passing the buck!”
“…He’s the one responsible for these things.”
Jiang Yu had never dealt with such a persistent Omega before. After answering, he didn’t spare another glance at Li Po and left with a cold expression.
Behind him, Li Po fumed in frustration. This? This isn’t passing the buck? What is it then?!
