Chapter 41
Yang Huifang left Su Yu, who was stunned, and ran towards the outside of the educated youth’s courtyard.
Su Yu sighed helplessly and mumbled, “It’s easy to dodge an arrow that’s shot straight, but it’s hard to defend against a hidden arrow.”
“Knock knock knock…”
“Shi Shi, are you home?”
Song Shishi and Xu Li, who were about to have lunch, looked at each other.
Xu Li glanced towards the courtyard gate and said, “It sounds like Huifang Jie.”
Song Shishi stood up, “She must have something to do. I’ll go open the door.”
Opening the courtyard gate, she saw Yang Huifang, who looked anxious, and she was a little surprised, “What’s wrong? You’re running so fast. Did something happen?”
“Let’s talk inside.” Yang Huifang glanced at both sides, pointing to the direction of the main room.
Song Shishi stepped aside, letting Yang Huifang in, then led her into the main room.
Yang Huifang had run over in a moment of heat and completely forgot about the time.
Seeing Xu Li, who was stuffing rice into her mouth, Yang Huifang smiled awkwardly, “Did I come at a bad time?”
“It’s okay. Have you had lunch? If not, just eat with us.”
Song Shishi didn’t think there was anything wrong, after all, Yang Huifang had always been good to them. It was just a matter of adding a pair of chopsticks.
“How could I? I just wanted to talk to you, and I’ll leave after that,” Yang Huifang blushed, a little embarrassed.
Xu Li’s eyes lit up, she put down her chopsticks, got up with a smile and pulled Yang Huifang to sit on the bench next to her, “Huifang Jie, why are we being so polite between us? Just tell me what’s going on.”
After that, Xu Li turned around and ran out again. In a short while, she came back with a pair of chopsticks and a bowl.
Looking at the white rice placed in front of her, Yang Huifang’s nose felt a little sour.
Since she came to the countryside, she hadn’t eaten white rice anymore.
Thinking about how she was holding onto that little bit of coarse grain every day and had to live a frugal life, and then looking at the little life Song Shishi and Xu Li were living now, she was truly envious.
“Why don’t you… talk after dinner?” Song Shishi sat down beside her.
Xu Li nodded repeatedly, “Yeah, yeah, yeah, I’m starving. Let’s talk after we eat.”
“Huifang Jie, try the dishes my sister made, they’re delicious.” Xu Li said while serving Yang Huifang some food.
Seeing Song Shishi and Xu Li like this, Yang Huifang no longer hesitated.
The three of them ate quietly. Xu Li took the initiative to wash the dishes and clean up the kitchen, leaving Song Shishi and Yang Huifang with space to talk.
In the main room, Song Shishi brewed tea while asking, “You came to see me, is there something you need to talk about?”
Yang Huifang repeated what Jiang Cuihua had said in the educated youth’s courtyard to Song Shishi, word for word.
“That Jiang Cuihua, you have to be careful of her in the future. Today she blamed all the wrongdoings on you in front of us, it really made me so angry. I’ve never seen someone so shameless.”
Yang Huifang had always disliked Jiang Cuihua’s behavior and way of doing things, so she couldn’t help but add some embellishments when describing it.
However, she could still feel Yang Huifang’s good intentions.
She calmly said, “I know what’s going on. Actually, it’s not just Jiang Cuihua, Zhou Xingxue has also been watching me because of An Jinsheng’s matter. Last time in the threshing ground, Liu Shen spread those rumors, it was most likely instigated by Zhou Xingxue.”
“What? Is that really the case?” Yang Huifang frowned, but then she thought that what Song Shishi said made sense, “No wonder. I was wondering why the conflict between Shen Hongying and them suddenly turned to you.”
Speaking of this, Yang Huifang remembered that when she came back from the mountain that day, she heard that Song Shishi had been beaten, but she wasn’t there that day and couldn’t help.
Yang Huifang said apologetically, “That day, Su Yu kept pestering me to go to the mountain to dig wild vegetables. I only found out about what happened to you when I came back…”
She quickly understood what Yang Huifang meant. She waved her hand and smiled at Yang Huifang, “It’s okay. I know Liu Shen very well. Even if you were there, you wouldn’t be able to deal with her.”
“That’s true. I heard she was injured in the waist by Shen Hongying that day. These days, she’s been having her son carry her to the gate of the educated youth’s courtyard, pestering Shen Hongying, saying that if Shen Hongying doesn’t compensate her, she’ll come to the educated youth’s courtyard every day.”
“But Shen Hongying is not a pushover either. She leaves before dawn every day. I haven’t seen her go to work. I don’t know where she went.”
Where else could she go?
Chen Shanhe didn’t go to Carpenter Zhao’s place to work, and he didn’t give an explanation. Shen Hongying would naturally not let him off easily.
“Did you see Wei Xiaoxuan?”
Yang Huifang snorted, “Wei Xiaoxuan? Although Chen Shanhe protected her that day, Shen Hongying’s strength was not something they could handle. She went to town as soon as she came back that day. I heard from Vice Captain Zhang that she’ll have to stay in the hospital for a few more days.”
No matter when, a third party is hated by everyone.
Wei Xiaoxuan, even if she came back, probably wouldn’t be able to stay in Huaiqing Brigade.
But everyone has their own way of living. No one knows what the final outcome will be.
This matter actually had nothing to do with Song Shishi, but if she wanted to deal with Zhou Xingxue, she needed to use Shen Hongying.
“It’s almost time. I have to go to work. I’ll come over to see you guys tonight.”
When Yang Huifang left, Xu Li had just finished cleaning up the kitchen. The two of them went to the field together.
Only Song Shishi and Xiao Shiwu were left at home. She made some food for Xiao Shiwu, then took a low table and stool and sat under the eaves to translate documents.
She had to go to town tomorrow to send a letter to Carpenter Zhao. She would stay up late tonight to finish translating the documents, so she could send them to Director Zhao tomorrow.
The things that happened in the village one after another made her even more determined to leave this place early.
“Is Song Zhiqing at home? There’s a letter for you.”
She had been sitting for hours. She just stood up to stretch when she heard someone calling her outside the courtyard.
Opening the courtyard gate, she saw a middle-aged man dressed as a postman standing at the door, smiling as he pulled out a letter from the green cloth bag hanging on his bicycle and handed it to her, “Are you Song Zhiqing? Here’s a letter for you.”
“Okay, thank you.”
She took the letter from the postman and turned to go into the house.
Her mother had sent her a letter not long ago. Logically speaking, she wouldn’t write to her so frequently unless something special happened.
She looked at the return address on the envelope, it was Qinghe Town.
