Chapter 44
At the hospital’s payment window.
Meng Xunzhou was holding a form and standing in line. Xu Qiang ran in from the hospital entrance, “Boss, how is Tiejun?”
“The doctor said he needs to recuperate for a few months before he can get better.” Meng Xunzhou handed the form to the window.
Xu Qiang frowned, “Then he won’t be able to participate in next month’s special training? Tiejun has been looking forward to this special training for a long time.”
“There’s nothing we can do about it. If his leg doesn’t heal, he won’t be able to participate in special training, and he might not even be able to wear this uniform anymore.”
After Meng Xunzhou finished, Xu Qiang fell silent.
“Alright, I’ll take you to see him. You can chat with him, maybe it will cheer him up.”
“Okay.”
Before they reached Tiejun’s ward, Xu Qiang suddenly felt the urge to use the restroom. He handed the fruit basket in his hand to Meng Xunzhou and said hurriedly, “Boss, hold this for a moment, I’ll be right back.”
Meng Xunzhou looked at Xu Qiang’s retreating back and smiled helplessly.
He turned around and was about to continue walking forward, but he seemed to see a familiar figure in his peripheral vision.
He stopped, took a step back, and looked towards the other end of the corridor.
“Shi Shi?”
He subconsciously walked towards Song Shishi.
“Boss, why are you here? You’re also…”
“Go see Tiejun first, I have something to do.”
Xu Qiang, who had just come out of the restroom, hadn’t finished his sentence when he looked down at the fruit basket in his hand and was a little confused.
He turned around and shouted to Meng Xunzhou, “No, Boss, where are you going?”
Because Meng Xunzhou’s figure blocked his view, Xu Qiang didn’t see Song Shishi and Xu Li.
Seeing that Meng Xunzhou didn’t answer, he just raised his hand and waved at him. He sighed, turned around, and walked towards Tiejun’s ward.
Meng Xunzhou’s eyes were fixed on the figure at the door of the operating room.
As he got closer, he realized that Song Shishi and Xu Li’s states were unusual.
Song Shishi kept staring at her hands. She held her hands tightly together, but they were trembling slightly.
Xu Li was sitting on the floor at the door of the operating room.
Neither of them noticed Meng Xunzhou approaching them.
Meng Xunzhou silently sat down beside Song Shishi. Sensing her helplessness and anxiety, he held her trembling hands with his large hand.
Song Shishi was startled by his sudden action. She instinctively wanted to pull her hand back, but she stopped when she met Meng Xunzhou’s eyes.
“What happened? Why are your hands so cold?”
Perhaps it was because Meng Xunzhou’s hand was too warm, or perhaps because his voice was too gentle, but in that moment, Song Shishi’s tears burst forth.
Endless grievances surged up.
“Wuu…”
She leaned on Meng Xunzhou’s shoulder and cried like a child.
Meng Xunzhou’s body stiffened. He raised his other hand, wanting to pat her back, comfort her, but he hesitated and didn’t do it.
She cried for a while before her emotions calmed down slightly.
Realizing that she was too close to Meng Xunzhou, and their actions were too ambiguous, she suddenly moved back and pulled her hand away.
“That…” Her eyes fell on Meng Xunzhou’s shoulder, which was wet with tears, and a blush crept up her ears.
“I’m sorry, I…”
But when she opened her mouth to explain, she didn’t know what to say.
Meng Xunzhou cleared his throat and said softly, “It’s okay. But what happened to you and Xu Li?”
As he spoke, Meng Xunzhou’s eyes fell on the closed door of the operating room, “Is someone inside?”
Song Shishi nodded and recounted today’s events.
Meng Xunzhou’s eyes darkened, “Did you catch those two?”
“I don’t know. When we rushed to the hospital, Captain Chen had already taken people to chase after them.”
Last time when Zhou Yuan was stabbed by An Jinsheng, she didn’t feel that strongly helpless.
She could even calmly analyze how to act in her best interest at that time.
But today, when Shitou lay in her arms covered in blood, she was completely stunned.
At that time, she only had one thought: “I can’t let Shitou die.”
The door of the operating room creaked slightly at this time, and Xu Li seemed to suddenly wake up. She got up from the ground.
The operating room door was pushed open from the inside.
The doctor, wearing a mask, came out from the door and asked them, “Who is the patient’s family?”
Song Shishi realized that they had come in a hurry and hadn’t sent anyone to inform Zhao Mujiang.
“Doctor, we are his friends. His family hasn’t arrived yet. Just tell us if there’s anything.”
Meng Xunzhou stepped forward and took the initiative to communicate with the doctor.
“The patient is out of danger now, but he needs to stay in the hospital for observation for a while. You can go pay the fees first.”
“Okay, thank you.”
After finishing, Meng Xunzhou turned around and was about to leave.
Song Shishi grabbed him in time, “He was injured because of me and Xu Li, so I should pay for it.”
“You don’t have to be so clear-cut with me.” Meng Xunzhou said helplessly.
“I know, but this time is different. He and Xu Li…” She glanced at Xu Li, who was constantly looking into the operating room door, and didn’t continue her sentence.
Because some things had to be left to them.
She could only be Xu Li’s family member and support and rely on her from behind.
“Then I’ll go with you.”
“Okay.”
Meng Xunzhou followed behind Song Shishi and gradually walked away.
Song Shishi kept her head down while walking, not knowing what she was thinking.
“Watch out!”
She was suddenly pulled into Meng Xunzhou’s arms. When she realized what was happening, she looked up at Meng Xunzhou with wide eyes.
He… was too bold, wasn’t he?
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”
At this time, a middle-aged man ran past them. The man seemed to realize that he had almost bumped into them, and he apologized repeatedly, but he didn’t stop his steps.
After the man passed by, Meng Xunzhou let go of her, lowered his head, and asked if she was alright.
Song Shishi was embarrassed by her own random thoughts.
However, Meng Xunzhou didn’t notice.
She took a step back and shook her head, “I’m fine.”
…
On the other side, Shitou was pushed out of the operating room by the nurse.
Because he had just had surgery, Shitou was still unconscious.
In the ward, only Xu Li was guarding him.
The two old educated youths who had helped send Shitou to the hospital had left after he was pushed into the operating room.
Looking at Shitou, whose lips were slightly cracked and whose face was bloodless, the tears she had stopped flowed again.
“Why were you so stupid?”
“Even if I was caught by them, the worst thing that could happen is that I would marry someone I don’t like. Why did you have to fight with them?”
“What would I do if something happened to you?”
After saying that, Xu Li leaned on Shitou’s bed and cried even harder.
“Li Li?”
Xu Li, who was immersed in sadness, suddenly heard Xu Qiang’s voice. She stopped crying and turned around to look.
Xu Qiang was standing at the door of the ward, looking at her in shock.
“Li Li, what are you doing here?”
Xu Li got up, rushed over, and hugged Xu Qiang’s waist, crying, “Brother, this time, my aunt hired people to catch me to force me back. Shitou protected me and was stabbed by the people my aunt hired.”
Xu Qiang heard this, and his brows furrowed.
It seemed that he shouldn’t have been merciful last time, otherwise, he wouldn’t be in this situation now.
