After entering the living room, Qiao Ma quickly brought tea to the two of them. Lu Lihai glanced at Gu Xuance, who was sitting upright, seemingly deep in thought.
“Old man,” Gu Xuance looked at Lu Lihai with sincere and decisive eyes, as if he had been considering for a long time and had made up his mind to resolve the issue. “Are you going to talk to me about Youze’s work?”
Lu Lihai had a neutral expression. “Since you already know, I’ll get straight to the point. I hope Youze takes a break from work and focuses on nurturing the baby! Gu family’s boy, I’m not asking for your opinion; I’m asking you to persuade my stubborn son. Do you understand?”
Gu Xuance had actually been considering this matter for a long time. Initially, he chose this script for Youze to help him turn things around because, with his professional eye, he knew the drama would allow Youze to showcase his acting talent and could become a big hit, marking his comeback. Of course, because it was a martial arts ensemble drama, Gu Xuance had consulted doctors and arranged for various stunt doubles, thinking that all the action scenes could be handled by the doubles, so there wouldn’t be any major issues. But what he hadn’t accounted for was Youze’s professionalism and dedication to his acting career. Reflecting now, he realized it had been a mistake. It was precisely Youze’s commitment that had drawn him in. Youze insisted on not using stunt doubles, and Gu Xuance couldn’t persuade him, so he had to ask the staff to keep a closer eye on things. But he knew this wouldn’t be a long-term solution. If this continued, Youze’s health would eventually be compromised.
“Old man, I know what to do,” Gu Xuance said to Lu Lihai. “I will take care of it!”
“That’s better,” Lu Lihai replied, standing up to leave. “At my age, I can’t handle more turmoil at this hour.”
Gu Xuance also stood up and silently watched Lu Lihai leave.
However, when he reached the stairs, Lu Lihai stopped, turned his back to Gu Xuance, and spoke in a tone that was difficult to interpret, “Gu family’s boy, don’t let him down.”
“I won’t,” Gu Xuance replied, his voice not loud but firm.
Lu Lihai didn’t say anything more and went back to his room to rest.
Gu Xuance sat alone in the living room. Uncle Lu and Qiao Ma didn’t disturb him. The tea in the cup had already gone cold, but he didn’t mind. After taking a sip, he expressionlessly dialed Yuan Boyue’s number.
“What the heck?!” As soon as the phone connected, Yuan Boyue’s annoyed voice came through. “Young Master, do you know what time it is? Is this how you treat your employees? Do you believe I’ll quit tomorrow?”
“Ah Yuan, I’m pausing the filming of the drama!” Gu Xuance directly ignored Yuan Boyue’s complaints, speaking seriously. “The plan we discussed is going into action.”
“I understand,” Yuan Boyue yawned. “I’ll go talk to the publicity department tomorrow about the specific plan and schedule.”
“Ah Yuan, you’ll be working hard again!” Gu Xuance said.
“Well, what can I do with such a headstrong boss? But it’s not too bad. Since you’ve already given me the plan, it’s much easier for me to execute it.” After a while, Yuan Boyue’s voice suddenly became serious. Even through the phone, Gu Xuance could feel the intensity. “You can leave the company matters to me. I can guarantee this will be handled perfectly, but I won’t have time to keep an eye on Yu Li. I heard that guy has returned. Ah Ze, are you sure you’re okay with this?”
“I’m fine.” Gu Xuance didn’t want his friend to worry. “I already have a plan.”
He paused for a moment, his expression cold, and spoke with no emotion in his voice. “This time, I won’t give him another chance to turn things around.”
Since Gu Xuance had said so, Yuan Boyue didn’t ask further. He knew his friend always followed through on his words. All he needed to do was focus on his own work and ensure his friend didn’t have any worries.
After some small talk and discussing the details, Yuan Boyue noticed that Gu Xuance seemed distracted. For his workaholic friend to be absent-minded during work, it could only be because of that big-time actor, Lu Youze. Yuan Boyue knew better than to be an “extra light,” so he said he would send the finalized plan to Gu Xuance once he reached the office tomorrow and then hung up the phone.
After the call, Gu Xuance sat in the living room for a while. For him, the most difficult thing now was how to convince Lu Youze. He took a deep breath, as if making a difficult decision, and stood up to walk towards Youze’s room.
