After taking the medicine, Lu Youze felt much better. Initially, Lu Bo and Qiao Ma, who had been keeping an eye on him, were “sent” out by him. Now, he was lying on his side, not sure what was on his mind. When he saw Gu Xuanze enter, he hurriedly sat up and waved for him to sit beside him.
Gu Xuanze dared not be negligent, quickly walking over to Lu Youze’s side. Just as he sat down, Lu Youze placed his legs as a pillow and rested his head on them. Gu Xuanze looked down at him, smiling indulgently, and instinctively began to smooth the messy hair caused by sleep.
“Ah Ze, sorry for making you come all the way here in the middle of the night.” Seeing the tiredness in his lover’s eyes, Lu Youze felt a bit guilty. “Actually, there’s nothing wrong with my health; it’s just that old man at home is making a big deal out of nothing.”
Gu Xuanze furrowed his brows, disagreeing with this, but when he looked down at Lu Youze, only tenderness remained in his beautiful eyes. “To me, nothing about you is a small matter. Youze, I hope you understand this!”
Such romantic words, when spoken by others, might seem greasy or even annoying, but with Gu Xuanze’s cold and stern face, they always come across as sincere.
“I know,” Lu Youze smiled, though he felt some sympathy for Ah Ze coming over so late, but deep inside, he was happy. Who wouldn’t get addicted to the feeling of being cherished by someone they love?
Gu Xuanze loved seeing Lu Youze smile at him like this. He couldn’t help but lean down to kiss his forehead.
“If you know, then don’t make me worry so much.” After the kiss, Gu Xuanze gently patted Lu Youze’s head, his tone a mix of indulgence and helplessness.
However, it seemed that a forehead kiss wasn’t enough to satisfy the great actor, Lu. He raised both hands to wrap around Gu Xuanze’s neck, pulled him down, and pressed his lips to his in a passionate kiss. Afterward, Lu Youze leaned against Gu Xuanze’s chest, smiling as he looked at his lover. His gaze grew more serious. “Ah Ze, your old man sent you here as a negotiator, right?”
Since the problem existed, it needed to be addressed.
“Mm.” Gu Xuanze nodded, gently stroking Lu Youze’s face. “Youze, even if your old man didn’t bring it up, I was planning to talk to you about this in the next couple of days.”
“You know, this production team is not just mine alone,” Lu Youze said seriously.
Gu Xuanze understood the implication of Lu Youze’s words. A glimmer of joy flashed in his eyes. The fact that Youze would say this meant he was willing to make some concessions.
“Youze, I’ll take care of everything.”
“I know.” Lu Youze didn’t doubt Gu Xuanze’s abilities. He knew that when Gu Xuanze told him to rest, everything would be arranged, but his mood was a bit complicated. With a forced smile, he said, “I just feel a bit reluctant. You know, The Days We Walk Together in the Martial World has a special meaning to me.”
Lu Youze had always regarded The Days We Walk Together in the Martial World as a token of their love, and since Gu Xuanze had invested a lot of time and resources into it, he naturally hoped the show would become a classic that people would cherish even decades later.
“Youze, won’t you be able to showcase your acting even better after the baby and when you return?” Gu Xuanze held Lu Youze’s hand gently, smiling as he continued, “We’ll split this show into two seasons. The parts we’ve already filmed are enough for the first season. You need to trust that your acting and the storyline will capture the audience, and I’ll make sure the popularity continues until the second season. The later part will mostly be martial arts scenes, requiring wirework and horseback riding. You won’t use a stunt double and insist on doing everything yourself. I’m definitely not at ease. And while the production is on pause, the promotional work will continue. You can attend some programs, as long as it’s not too tiring.”
Gu Xuanze understood what Lu Youze was thinking and knew his concerns, but he had already taken care of everything for him.
“Since you’ve said it like this, what else can I say?” Lu Youze smiled. “Plus, listening to you and stopping the production, I can earn some points with your old man so that you won’t be kicked out by him.”
Gu Xuanze had originally thought that after learning the truth, Lu Youze would abandon him, but he hadn’t expected him to be so considerate. Now, he was even willing to pause his beloved career for their child. Gu Xuanze felt his heart fill with love, holding him even tighter, burying his head in Lu Youze’s shoulder, and softly saying, “Youze, thank you. I love you.”
He wasn’t the type to constantly say “I love you,” but when emotions ran deep, he couldn’t help but express it.
“I love you too,” Lu Youze held Gu Xuanze’s hand. “We’re getting married soon, so there’s no need to thank me. Besides, don’t you do more than I do?”
“Speaking of the wedding, have you told your old man?” Gu Xuanze brought up another serious issue.
“Not yet.” Lu Youze’s face showed some concern. “I need to find the right time; otherwise, he’ll be so mad he’ll probably die.”
“I can understand your old man’s feelings,” Gu Xuanze muttered.
“Ah, it’s already been decided. Ah Ze, don’t overthink it,” Lu Youze yawned. “Are you planning to talk about this now?”
“Youze, are you tired? Go to sleep first!”
“Mm.” Lu Youze nodded, then lay down on his side. He lifted a corner of the blanket and said to Gu Xuanze, “Ah Ze, sleep with me. You have a busy day tomorrow. You need to rest more.”
Gu Xuanze didn’t refuse. He lay down next to Lu Youze, avoiding his abdomen and holding his waist instead. Maybe it was because he was truly tired or perhaps because his lover was by his side, but the two of them quickly fell asleep.
Lu Youze had set an alarm for 5 a.m., but after the disturbance in the middle of the night, he couldn’t wake up. Instead, Gu Xuanze woke up when the alarm went off. He looked at his phone and frowned, then turned off the alarm. Looking at his sleeping lover, he couldn’t resist kissing his forehead before holding him tightly and continuing to sleep.
Gu Xuanze woke up around 7 a.m. Qiao Ma had already prepared his toiletries. After freshening up, he went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for Lu Youze.
“Mr. Gu, I’ll handle this,” Qiao Ma was startled and quickly said. “How can I let the future son-in-law do this?”
“It’s fine, I want to make something for Youze. Qiao Ma, just tell me where everything is.”
“Alright, then it’s settled.”
While telling Gu Xuanze where the kitchen items were placed, Qiao Ma watched the stern CEO wearing an apron and preparing breakfast. He seemed very focused on his task, and his gentle expression made his usually cold face seem a little more human. Qiao Ma thought that this time, the young master had good taste, and that Gu would definitely be a good husband in the future.
She decided that later, in front of the old master, she’d say some good words about the future son-in-law. She had a good eye for people, and she felt that the old master could truly relax now.
When Lu Youze woke up, it was already past 8 a.m., and breakfast was ready. After washing up, he ran into Gu Xuanze, who was heading upstairs to call him.
“Youze, did you sleep well?” Gu Xuanze gave him a hug and then quietly asked, “Do you still feel unwell? Remember to take your medicine after breakfast.”
“Alright, alright, I know. You’re more nagging than Qiao Ma,” Lu Youze complained, “I’m not a child.”
Though he said that, Lu Youze was still in a good mood.
By the time they reached the dining table, Lu Lihai was already sitting there.
“Good morning, Dad.”
“Good morning, old master.”
After greeting the old master together, the two sat down across from him.
“Wow, why is breakfast so rich today?” Lu Youze looked at the table full of food, immediately recognizing that it was made by his lover. Seizing the opportunity, he decided to flaunt his lover in front of the old master to build some rapport. With an exaggerated tone, he said to Qiao Ma, who was standing behind Lu Lihai, “Qiao Ma, you really worked hard.”
Gu Xuanze understood Lu Youze’s intentions. He just smiled without saying anything.
“Young master, it’s not hard at all.” Qiao Ma quickly waved her hand, “This is all thanks to Mr. Gu’s cooking. Mr. Gu has been in the kitchen early this morning, preparing all the dishes the young master and the old master love to eat. Old master, I have to admit, Mr. Gu’s cooking skills are beyond mine.”
“Qiao Ma, when did you become so humble?” Old Master Lu smiled.
“Mr. Gu specifically learned from a famous chef to make these dishes for the young master, so of course, I can’t compare.”
Lu Youze decided to give Qiao Ma a raise. This was a good assist, and then he discreetly observed the old master’s expression. It seemed like the old master was in a good mood.
“Whether it’s good or not, you’ll only know after trying,” Lu Lihai poured cold water on them without giving face, but he still picked up his chopsticks. Though he didn’t say much afterward, it seemed that he still recognized Gu Xuanze’s cooking skills, as he ate a bit more than usual.
After a harmonious breakfast, Lu Lihai called them both into his study.
“Have you reached a conclusion about what we discussed yesterday?” Lu Lihai asked straightforwardly.
Lu Youze and Gu Xuanze exchanged a glance, and then Lu Youze spoke, “Last night, Ah Ze talked to me a lot, and he’ll take care of the follow-up matters. I was persuaded by him, and I don’t want you two to worry, so I decided to listen to you and take a break for now. But I can still participate in promotional activities, right?”
Lu Lihai was silent for a while, then nodded, “But it can’t be too chaotic.”
“I’ll keep an eye on him,” Gu Xuanze said, “I won’t let him overwork.”
“Alright, since it’s been decided, go ahead and take care of it,” Lu Lihai waved his hand to hurry them along, “If you need anything, tell Old Lu, he’ll arrange it.”
“Thanks, Dad!” Lu Youze said, then pulled Gu Xuanze out of the study. They had a busy day ahead.
