The staff were all captivated by Chef Fang’s culinary skills, and everyone began to enjoy the food, the tense and oppressive atmosphere having disappeared significantly.
Lu Youze also breathed a sigh of relief, after all, Gu Xuanze did indeed scare everyone yesterday.
He glanced at the group sitting together, enjoying the food and chatting, feeling a bit regretful that Lu Youxi wasn’t filming on the same set with him today.
Lu Youze looked at Gu Xuanze beside him, then at Wu Liyi, who was not far away with a dark face that seemed ready to go act in “Bao Daren.” He sighed helplessly, thinking that the most urgent issue to solve was the problem between these two.
“Ah Ze,” Lu Youze handed over the box of specially customized snacks from Chef Fang that he had personally packed, speaking with a tone that left no room for negotiation, “You know what to do, right?”
Gu Xuanze knew that the things he had said last night were indeed excessive. Even if Lu Youze didn’t bring it up, he would have apologized on his own. If the director kept a stern face, it would affect the filming, and he didn’t want to put Lu Youze in a difficult position.
“Ah Ze,” the two walked over to Wu Liyi, and Lu Youze was smiling, nudging Gu Xuanze with his elbow. His voice was gentle, but his eyes were sharp as he said, “Don’t you have something to say to Director Wu?”
“Director Wu,” Gu Xuanze handed over the box of snacks, “I was too reckless last night and offended you. I hope you won’t hold it against me, a younger one.”
“Heh,” Wu Liyi didn’t buy it. He sneered and glanced at Gu Xuanze, “I can’t accept CEO Gu’s apology.”
Now this was troublesome. Wu Liyi seemed quite angry, and Lu Youze thought to himself, it’s no wonder, anyone would be angry at what Ah Ze said last night.
Gu Xuanze kept a cold expression and didn’t continue.
Seeing him like this, Lu Youze sighed again in his heart. What could he do? His lover, he would have to spoil him himself.
“Director Wu, Ah Ze really knows he was wrong. Please forgive him this time.” Lu Youze took the snack box back from Gu Xuanze and continued, “These are specially made by Chef Fang for you. He said you would definitely like them. How about you try a bite?”
“I’m not hungry,” Wu Liyi flatly refused. Though he said no, his eyes were still fixed on the snack box in Lu Youze’s hands, and his body was honest enough.
“Well, since Director Wu doesn’t want to eat, there’s nothing I can do.” Lu Youze spoke with some regret and then turned to Gu Xuanze, “Ah Ze, should I just send this box of snacks to my old man? A few days ago, he kept calling me, saying he wanted to eat this. He said he often heard my mother mention it but never got to taste it.”
“You should have told me, I could have asked Chef Fang to make some for my uncle,” The two’s rapport had been rising ever since they started dating. Lu Youze just winked at him, and Gu Xuanze immediately knew what he was thinking. He seriously picked up the conversation.
“Ah Ze, there’s something you don’t know, right?” Lu Youze continued, “I also asked Chef Fang, but he said he had an agreement with my mother. He only makes this snack for two people. One is my mother, and the other is Director Wu. My mother passed away a long time ago, so this time it’s considered a blessing from Director Wu. Ah Ze, could you send this snack to my old man…”
“You’re dreaming,” before Lu Youze could finish, Wu Liyi snatched the snack box from his hand, “How can this old man’s stuff go to that old bastard Lu Lihai?”
Tasting the familiar flavor brought back memories, especially with what Lu Youze just mentioned about the “agreement,” which was the first time he heard of it, leaving him feeling conflicted inside.
No matter what, this was a memory unique to him and Ren Ni, a memory that even though that bastard occupied Ren Ni, he could never take away.
Maybe the snack made his mood better, as Wu Liyi glanced at the two of them. He thought, the Gu family kid actually compromised. The family standing of these two is really obvious. He had actually invested some effort into this drama, believing it could become a classic. Though he understood why Gu Xuanze wanted to arrange a body double for Lu Youze, as a director, he still didn’t approve. Now that the problem was solved and Gu Xuanze had apologized, he would temporarily not argue with this junior.
“We’re about to film the first scene. Don’t stand around here. Go get your makeup and costumes.” Wu Liyi wanted some quiet time, so he made up an excuse and sent them away.
Lu Youze understood, this meant Wu Liyi wasn’t holding a grudge. After exchanging pleasantries, he pulled Gu Xuanze away.
Although Lu Youze and Gu Xuanze were the leads of the drama, they had almost no scenes together before this. Even their individual scenes were filmed in different sets. Today was like making up for all the missed time, with many of their scenes together. The crew was forced to eat double portions of dog food, both in and out of the drama. The most unfortunate victim was the third male lead, Ou Yan.
In the drama, Ou Yan, as Yuan Zheng’s best friend, was dragged by Yuan Zheng to the night market with Gu Xuanze’s character Feng Wu. He was forced to watch the person he cared about make others happy, while he thought of countless ways to make Feng Wu disappear from the world, but still had to keep a perfect smile.
Off-screen, he had a scene today where he and the male lead break up, which was the first climax of the drama, and the crew was giving it great attention. Ou Yan was also forced to stay in the break room with Lu Youze to rehearse.
Along with Gu Xuanze.
Originally, that scene had nothing to do with Gu Xuanze, so why was he following them? Were these two conjoined twins? Would they die if separated for a moment? Ou Yan thought irritably, smiling faintly at the two of them.
The two were now sitting face-to-face, Lu Youze was focused and serious, discussing his understanding of the scene with Ou Yan, occasionally asking for Ou Yan’s opinion. The little incident from last night seemed like it never happened to him.
This made Ou Yan feel even more unbalanced.
He had thought about acting more arrogantly, being less friendly toward Lu Youze. But Lu Youze was so focused that he couldn’t help but get drawn in. At this moment, if he tried to trip them up, it would make him seem petty.
Gu Xuanze just quietly stood to the side, his eyes seemed to be fixed on Lu Youze, not moving a moment. When Lu Youze felt thirsty, without him asking, Gu Xuanze would directly hand him a warm glass of water, still in a thermos.
Ou Yan sneered, was this a veteran checking on their work? Who still carries a thermos with them nowadays?
Lu Youze wasn’t shy at all, naturally accepting the warm water, drinking two sips before returning it to Gu Xuanze.
The movement was fluid, with no sense of awkwardness, like an old married couple.
Ou Yan felt his eyes were going blind. He couldn’t figure out Lu Youze, but it was obvious that Gu Xuanze was intentionally showing off.
“Yoze, my opinion on this part differs from yours,” Gu Xuanze looked down and pointed at the script where Lu Youze had highlighted a section in red, “I think it should go like this.”
Then he started explaining his thoughts.
“Why?” Lu Youze asked with a frown after hearing this.
Clearly, there was a misunderstanding between the two of them.
Gu Xuanze began to explain why he thought that way, and then the two of them started to discuss their differences heatedly.
Although it was heated, the atmosphere was quite good, and even though Ou Yan was completely ignored by the side, he felt like he was being fed a mouthful of dog food.
Gu Xuanze even took a moment to glance at Ou Yan. That glance seemed meaningless, but Ou Yan could sense that it was a provocation and a warning.
Gu Xuanze’s gaze was like that of an owner warning an intruder who was eyeing his prey: Don’t even think about taking what’s not yours.
How childish! Ou Yan suppressed the urge to roll his eyes. Did he really think everyone would treat Lu Youze like a precious treasure?
“I’m almost ready.” He stood up, no expression on his face, a stark contrast to his usual smile. “I’m heading out first.”
“What’s with him?” Lu Youze asked, looking at Ou Yan’s disappearing back with some confusion. “He seems to be angry?”
“I don’t know!” Gu Xuanze shook his head. “Maybe he’s just building up his emotions.”
“Oh.” Lu Youze responded but didn’t pursue the matter further. He lowered his head and continued to study the script. This scene tested their acting skills a lot. Although Ou Yan was a standout among the young actors, he still lacked experience, and his acting was slightly immature. Lu Youze needed to find a way to guide him.
“Are you tired?” Gu Xuanze asked, concerned, as he saw Lu Youze occasionally massaging his shoulders.
“Mm.” In front of Gu Xuanze, Lu Youze seemed to be more and more accustomed to not hiding his emotions. He liked being pampered by Gu Xuanze. “I didn’t sleep well last night.”
Gu Xuanze’s expression changed. So, it wasn’t just him who was troubled.
“Let me massage you.”
“Okay.”
Ou Yan stood outside the break room, his gaze colder than before.
He repeatedly reminded himself not to overthink it. It was just Gu Xuanze’s self-righteousness. He had no other thoughts about Lu Youze.
He simply disliked him, and that was all.
