Geyun and the other four were stunned.
Wei Heng smiled proudly:
“This medal will be personally awarded by the Grand Marshal.
“Xingze wanted to keep it low-key, but since you all keep saying he’s not worthy, I’m going to make sure the entire galaxy knows about the award ceremony, so everyone knows what kind of merit my wife has earned!”
In the history of the Empire, fewer than five civilians had ever received the Purple Gold Medal, and certainly not anyone as young as me—truly unprecedented.
I guessed that part of this award was also due to Wei Heng’s influence.
But this medal wasn’t just for show.
The Empire has a well-established welfare system. Medal recipients get special subsidies every month, enjoy the highest honors wherever they go, and even their descendants benefit.
Wei Junlei was the first to react:
“Is this… real?”
“If you don’t believe it, just watch the media coverage later,” Wei Heng said, smirking.
“Oh, and there’s another big announcement.”
Geyun hurriedly asked,
“What is it? Tell us!”
Wei Heng tapped his wrist device and contacted my attending physician:
“Dr. Zhu, could you please come here?”
Dr. Zhu rushed over.
Wei Heng gestured to him,
“Go ahead, tell them about my wife’s checkup.”
Dr. Zhu pulled up my medical report and solemnly said:
“Yes, the ultrasound report shows two gestational sacs in Lin’s reproductive cavity, both with embryos and heartbeats. Diagnosis: four weeks pregnant.”
Four weeks pregnant?
I barely had time to process this before I instinctively covered my abdomen in disbelief.
I was actually pregnant? With twins?
Four weeks… that would have been from Wei Heng’s heat cycle.
Did we really hit the mark on the first try?
Lin Dong and Lin Yueyuan were shocked, their mouths wide enough to fit an ostrich egg.
Geyun and Wei Junlei thought Dr. Zhu must be lying on Wei Heng’s behalf.
Dr. Zhu, however, was firm:
“I’ve been practicing medicine for 20 years, I wouldn’t joke about something this serious. If you don’t believe me, you can review Lin’s checkup report…”
Geyun was still in denial:
“But isn’t he a beta?”
Dr. Zhu explained:
“Lin’s physiology is rather special. His reproductive cavity is very well developed, which makes him an easy conception case, even among betas.”
Wei Junlei murmured:
“Yeah, his dad was an omega, so it’s not that surprising…”
Geyun was caught between excitement and concern:
“But he’s still a beta. What if the children are also betas…”
Wei Heng cut in:
“Even if they’re betas, they’ll still be my precious babies. I’ll love my children no matter what.”
Geyun and Wei Junlei exchanged a glance, sighing as they nodded in resignation.
Seeing the changing tide, Lin Dong quickly congratulated me, trying to win favor.
I had no interest in responding.
Wei Heng issued a dismissal:
“Alright, my wife needs rest. If there’s nothing else, please leave.”
Once all the unwanted guests were gone, it was just the two of us in the room.
I asked, somewhat conflicted:
“When did you figure it out?”
“Figure out what? Dr. Zhu told me about the pregnancy a few days ago. I wanted to surprise you, so I didn’t mention it…”
I cut him off,
“Not the pregnancy! When did you realize I was the one taking care of you all this time?”
“Oh, that.” Wei Heng hugged me closer and began explaining:
“For those three years I was bedridden, I was actually half-awake. By the second year, I had regained some sensation.
“But I couldn’t move or speak, and my vision was blurry.
“My hearing, though, became very sharp. I could hear you singing, reading poetry, and telling stories.
“Although my memory was impaired, I’d quickly forget, thinking I was dreaming.
“So when I woke up and they said it was Lin Yueyuan who cared for me, I didn’t question it, until I ran into you by the elevator…”
Warmth spread through my heart.
“You recognized me then?”
“No.” Wei Heng shrugged. I glared at him, irritated, and he quickly held my hand, kissing it.
“I didn’t recognize you, but I fell in love at first sight. I thought to myself, ‘How can anyone fit my tastes so perfectly? This person was born to be my wife!’”
I pulled my hand back, embarrassed,
“Love at first sight, my foot! You were just lusting after me!”
“I admit it. I was totally into you.” Wei Heng shamelessly confessed without blinking, “But they told me you were a beta, and that I couldn’t marry a beta. I was so frustrated. I thought, ‘I’ll marry whoever I want, beta or omega, I don’t care!’”
He continued talking:
“The more I saw Lin Yueyuan, the more off he seemed. I tested him and realized he was lying. That made me even angrier.
“But I didn’t have proof. My father had tampered with the house’s surveillance, and the servants were too afraid to tell the truth.”
He rambled on:
“The night of the engagement, I was feeling restless. For some reason, I remembered that the person who cared for me always took me to the flower room. So I went there, and then I saw you.
“When you spoke, I immediately recognized your voice. That’s when I was sure—you were the one who had been with me for three years. So, I decided we should elope!”
Fuming, I pinched his cheek,
“So you’ve been scheming all along!”
I had been too naive, thinking Wei Heng was just an innocent young master. But this guy was a military genius. He’d been planning all along to win me over—how could I ever stand a chance against him?
“You have to be cunning to win your wife…” he said with a grin, teeth showing.
This realization, that I’d been played all along, left me feeling frustrated. I scolded:
“If you knew everything, why didn’t you say something sooner?”
Wei Heng rubbed his face and replied:
“I needed to be sure of your feelings. If you didn’t care about me at all, I couldn’t force it. But I wasn’t about to give up easily. I was going to use every means necessary to make you mine.”
His words hit deep.
My eyes welled up, my throat tightening.
So someone had cared about my feelings after all. I was worthy of respect.
Wei Heng had done so much for me, even standing up to his parents.
Thinking about my father who had passed away, I felt both grateful and sad.
Our paths in life were so similar, yet my father had ended up abandoned by a heartless man.
Meeting Wei Heng must have been my father’s blessing from beyond.
Wei Heng hugged me, pouting:
“Wife, just give in already. I’ve solved all your worries—what more is there to consider?”
I responded, feigning annoyance:
“I’m already pregnant. What else can I do but give in?”
Wei Heng kissed me passionately, calling me “wife” over and over.
Epilogue
The news of me receiving the Purple Gold Medal became the hottest topic in the galaxy, thanks to official media hype.
At 22, a beta, having fought against the Zerg and earning the highest honor, as well as being the fiancée of a major general—I was stacked with buffs.
I became a symbol of achievement among betas and even made it into the Hall of Fame.
Two months after receiving the medal, Wei Heng and I had a grand wedding.
Six months later, I gave birth to twin boys—one beta and one alpha.
The entire Wei family celebrated, and Wei Heng adored both children equally, often showing favoritism toward the beta baby.
As for the Lin family, Lin Dong tried to leverage my success to marry Lin Yueyuan into a wealthy family.
But Lin Yueyuan refused. He still foolishly thought he could compete with me for Wei Heng, scheming behind the scenes.
He bribed our nanny to harm me and the children.
However, the nanny turned on him and exposed his plot.
Wei Heng was furious and exiled Lin Yueyuan to a distant, undeveloped planet, forbidding him from ever returning.
Lin Dong didn’t fare well either. His arrogance led to his cousin replacing him as the family head.
After our kids started kindergarten, I returned to my art career and got involved in beta rights and charity work, helping betas with artistic talent find more opportunities to showcase their skills.
Once Sanjui Village was reopened, the local government used me as a symbol to promote the murals there.
Tourists flocked to the village, turning it into a popular destination, and even the Devil’s Horn cave became a hot spot.
Though I married Wei Heng, I didn’t lose myself. Instead, I continued to shine in my own field.
