Chapter 142 : Self-love
Lu Yunyao was so embarrassed she practically wanted to find a hole in the ground to hide.
In front of other people, she actually said something like having a baby with Mr.
Is this really her?
Fu Sichan’s usual cold demeanor was now replaced by a tenderness he himself hadn’t even noticed.
His eyes held a mischievous glint as he said in a deep voice, “You said it yourself, don’t go back on your word.”
“Mr…”
Lu Yunyao called him reproachfully and then buried her little head on his shoulder, too shy to say anything.
On the way home, she was carried by Mr as if she were a baby.
Downstairs in the community, many mothers looked on with a mix of envy and sighs as they saw Lu Yunyao being carried upstairs by her husband.
They remembered when their own husbands used to dote on them in the same way.
But since having children, their husbands made excuses about working late and were rarely home. Their mothers-in-law became nitpicky and critical.
Whenever the child felt unwell, the whole family would find fault with them.
Everyone has times when they can’t manage everything. Did they, as mothers, intentionally want their children to suffer?
In their daily grind and constant criticism, they had aged quickly.
Thinking about it, they no longer envied Lu Yunyao.
After all, once this girl has children, she’ll follow the same path they did.
All the romance and sweetness would eventually turn into mundane daily life.
…
“Yaoyao, I just heard that our school has a new rule, marriage certificates can earn extra credits!”
As soon as she saw Lu Yunyao, Fang Yanran excitedly said.
Lu Yunyao’s eyes lit up, “Really? How many credits can we add?”
“It seems to be 3 credits. If you bring your husband and marriage certificate to the student office, the teacher can give you the extra points.”
Lu Yunyao was somewhat tempted.
However, with Mr’s busy schedule, he likely wouldn’t have time to come to the school in the near future.
“Yaoyao, do you want to take your husband with you to get the extra credits?”
Lu Yunyao shook her head, “I’ll talk about it later. I’m afraid of disturbing his work.”
“What does your husband do?” Fang Yanran asked.
“He seems to be an ordinary office worker, but he’s a workaholic with great work capabilities.”
Fang Yanran found it a bit regrettable.
After all, Yaoyao is so beautiful, not only the Lu family’s precious daughter but also an outstanding student from a prestigious university.
Yet she ended up with an ordinary husband who has nothing much to offer except his face.
“You should talk to your husband and ask him to spend more time with you. No matter how much he works overtime, he’s still working for someone else, and all the money he earns goes to buying luxury cars and villas for the capitalists.”
Lu Yunyao couldn’t help but smile, “Actually, I don’t like being too clingy. A dinner together and watching some TV is enough.”
Isn’t staying together too long likely to make things lose their novelty?
She had an independent personality and wasn’t overly reliant on men.
Meanwhile, at the Fu Corporation.
It was already after work hours, but the executives were still in a meeting.
After all, the president was still at work, so they couldn’t leave early.
During a break in the meeting, complaints started to murmur through the conference room.
“President Fu works such long hours every day. How can any woman tolerate that once he’s married?”
“Exactly. A wife is meant to be accompanied. President Fu is so engrossed in work every day that no amount of money can make up for the lack of companionship.”
“If I were a woman, I’d rather have a husband who works a nine-to-five job and comes home on time, rather than a workaholic like President Fu.”
Fu Sichan’s steps faltered.
Assistant Wang, who had heard the comments from inside, immediately displayed an awkward expression.
He silently hoped these people would stop talking.
Unfortunately, the people inside didn’t hear his silent plea.
“If President Fu actually got married, his wife would be so pitiful, wouldn’t she?”
“Pitiful how? I’d love to have such a handsome and wealthy husband.”
“But if this husband is always at the company, you barely see him. Wouldn’t that be like living in a state of widowhood?”
“That’s true… Anyway, if my boyfriend were like that, I’d definitely stray.”
Assistant Wang’s heart sank.
These people were getting more outrageous by the minute.
He broke out in a cold sweat and nervously said, “President Fu, they…”
Fu Sichan raised a hand, stopping him from continuing.
He glanced at his watch, it was already nine in the evening.
If he waited much longer, his little girl would probably already be in bed.
Fu Sichan pressed his lips together, his voice deep and magnetic, carrying the charm of a mature man.
“Let them all go home.”
Assistant Wang’s eyes widened, “President Fu, making such a large-scale layoff at this time might not be a wise choice.”
Competitors are watching closely!
Laying off so many executives now would be handing over a weapon to the competition.
Fu Sichan frowned and looked at him in confusion.
“Who said anything about layoffs? I just want them to go home.”
Assistant Wang then realized he had misunderstood.
He breathed a huge sigh of relief.
“That’s good, that’s good. I’ll go tell them right away.”
Upon receiving the notice, a cheer erupted in the conference room.
“Great! Time to go home and be with our wives and kids!”
Hearing the excited voices behind him, Fu Sichan couldn’t help but smile slightly.
On the way home, he reflected.
He was now a married man and couldn’t behave like before, when he practically lived at the office.
He needed to consider the feelings of his little girl.
He couldn’t just leave her alone at home, isolated and lonely.
It would be too pitiful for her.
With that thought, Fu Sichan felt a twinge of unease in his heart.
“Stop the car.”
The driver stepped on the gas. “President Fu, what are your instructions?”
“Go to the nearby high-end shopping mall.”
“Understood.”
Even though the luxury stores were about to close, as soon as they saw Fu Sichan’s black gold card, they immediately perked up and notified the warehouse for an emergency restock.
Fu Sichan bought out half the store’s merchandise, filling the trunk to the brim.
Returning to Mingyuan Community, Fu Sichan’s mind was preoccupied with thoughts of the little girl being alone and lonely.
He felt both guilty and somewhat frustrated as he carried the large and small gifts to the door.
He pushed the door open.
He expected to see his little girl sitting forlornly on the sofa, waiting for him to come home, eyes bleary with sleep.
But instead, he was met with..
An empty living room.
What’s going on? Did she not wait for him?
Confused, Fu Sichan pushed open the door to the guest bedroom.
There lay the little girl, cuddling a stuffed toy, fast asleep on the bed in the guest bedroom.
She was covered with a blanket, her cheeks flushed, and her seaweed-like hair spread out on the bed, looking like a princess from a fairytale.
Lu Yunyao mumbled in her sleep, “Delicious, so delicious…”
It seemed he didn’t even appear in her dreams.
Standing in the doorway, Fu Sichan suddenly felt like an irrelevant outsider in this home.
