Chapter 167 : Hitchhiking
When Old Lady Fu heard this, her brow furrowed, clearly displeased.
“That Miss Ye is too ostentatious. Yaoyao, you should keep your distance from her in the future.”
Lu Yunyao looked awkward. “I understand, Grandma.”
Using the term “ostentatious” was already quite mild for Old Lady Fu.
If it were someone else, she might have said something harsher.
After all, there are many rules in high society. Even though there are some unconventional individuals, these matters should not be made public.
If they are brought to light, it will attract the disapproval of the older generation.
Bai Xuan tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and smiled.
“Senior Brother, should I not have mentioned this? I hope it doesn’t affect Miss Lu.”
Fu Sichan frowned.
Before he could speak, Old Lady Fu said, “Thank you for letting me know, otherwise I wouldn’t have realized that Yaoyao had such a troublesome friend.”
“Yaoyao is young and doesn’t understand the principle of ‘one who mingles with ink is blackened.’ She must be cautious with her friendships.”
Bai Xuan smiled. “But Miss Ye will be Miss Lu’s sister-in-law in the future. It’s probably impossible to cut off all contact between them.”
Even Lu Yunyao, who was usually slow to pick up on things, could sense that Bai Xuan seemed somewhat unfriendly.
Every word she said made Lu Yunyao uncomfortable.
Old Lady Fu’s face darkened.
“So it turns out this is the Ye girl who has an engagement with the Lu family’s young master. It’s going to be quite troublesome.”
As a result, Old Lady Fu’s gaze toward Lu Yunyao also shifted slightly.
However, this dissatisfaction was not directed at Lu Yunyao but rather at Ye Wan Qing.
“Yaoyao, our Fu family has many rules, and there has never been any discord among couples. Don’t follow the bad examples of outsiders. Even if Miss Ye becomes your sister-in-law in the future, you should still keep your distance.”
Lu Yunyao lowered her head submissively.
“I understand, Grandma.”
The old lady mumbled, “How did a girl named Ye turn out to be so unruly?”
Fu Sichan stepped in to defuse the situation.
“Grandma, it’s time to eat. We can’t let anyone go hungry, especially not your great-grandson, right?”
Great-grandson?
Bai Xuan’s eyes flickered.
She remembered that when she last saw Lu Yunyao, her belly wasn’t this big.
In just a little over half a month, Lu Yunyao’s belly had grown?
It must be that she’s been eating a lot.
Old Lady Fu then recalled that Lu Yunyao was pregnant.
Her anger instantly turned into a smile.
“Oh dear, I’m so forgetful. Quickly, have the kitchen bring out the dishes. We mustn’t let my dear great-grandchild go hungry.”
Fu Sichan took Lu Yunyao’s hand. “Let’s go.”
Lu Yunyao whispered, “Mr, what was that about the ‘great-grandson’?”
“I’ll explain it to you later.”
Lu Yunyao obediently replied, “Alright.”
“Let Yaoyao sit next to me,” Fu Sichan said. “Come on.”
When Old Lady Fu spoke, no one dared to disobey.
Lu Yunyao moved to sit beside the old lady.
“I’ll sit next to Miss Lu,” Bai Xuan said, taking the spot next to Lu Yunyao.
As a result, Lu Yunyao and Fu Sichan couldn’t sit together.
Fu Sichan’s eyes turned slightly cold as he took a seat on the other side of the old lady.
He and Lu Yunyao were now on either side of the old lady, effectively flanking her.
During the meal, Bai Xuan said many flattering things, keeping Old Lady Fu in high spirits.
The Bai and Fu families seemed to have a good relationship. Moreover, Bai Xuan and Fu Sichan had studied at the same school and shared a senior-junior relationship.
Old Lady Fu liked Bai Xuan and wanted to arrange a good match for her.
“What kind of person do you like? With your background, all the young talents in Bei Cityshould be at your disposal.”
Bai Xuan looked at Fu Sichan with a gentle smile.
“I don’t have high standards. I just want someone who treats his wife like Senior Brother does.”
“Senior Brother Sichan treats his wife well? You’re the first one to say that. He’s always been aloof and distant even with his own family. Fortunately, Yaoyao has a good relationship with him. Over time, I’ve seen Sichan change quite a bit.”
Old Lady Fu had observed the changes in her grandson.
In the past, Fu Sichan had no one by his side, always being solitary and preferring to live at the office. She had heard from people at the company that he now pays more attention to family and is less obsessed with work.
Wasn’t that a significant change?
Bai Xuan lowered her head with a sigh.
“Senior Brother’s fate has arrived. As for mine, I don’t know when it will come.”
“You’re excellent in every way. I see it’s not that fate hasn’t arrived but that you’re too picky.”
Bai Xuan curved her lips into a smile. “Perhaps I’ve seen too many remarkable people in the past. Since then, it’s hard to find anyone ordinary that catches my eye.”
“So you have someone in your heart. In that case, I won’t meddle in your marriage. I believe you’ll find your happiness.”
“Let’s hope so.”
When she said this, Bai Xuan’s gentle gaze was fixed on Fu Sichan.
Aside from the cheerful Old Lady Fu and Lu Yunyao, who had poor eyesight, everyone else could see her intentions clearly.
Including Fu Sichan himself.
His brows furrowed deeply, and he barely touched his dinner.
What senior sister? What kind of senior sister was she?
Though they had studied at the same school, there was a several-year gap between them.
With so many graduates from prestigious schools each year, not everyone could be his junior.
…
After dinner, Fu Sichan took Lu Yunyao’s hand, and the young couple was about to head home.
Bai Xuan tugged at the old lady’s arm and said coquettishly, “Grandma Fu, could I hitch a ride with Senior Brother? The driver had something to do, so I asked him to leave first.”
Old Lady Fu smiled kindly, “Of course, you’re a young lady. We’d be worried if you went home alone at night.”
Thus, Bai Xuan smoothly got into Fu Sichan’s car.
“Senior Brother, do you remember that lake at our school? I heard it’s been expanded and several small pavilions have been built. Many couples go there to study or date.”
As Bai Xuan spoke, her eyes were filled with longing.
Fu Sichan’s expression was indifferent. “I don’t remember.”
His response wasn’t meant to insult Bai Xuan, it was simply the truth.
After all, back in the day, he was entirely focused on academics, and he didn’t fit in with those around him, having few friends.
Let alone women.
In Fu Sichan’s mind, there had never been a place for women.
If it weren’t for his grandmother introducing Bai Xuan today, he wouldn’t even have been able to recall her name.
“Senior Brother, you probably haven’t seen your college friends in a long time, right? How about we attend this week’s alumni reunion together?”
