Chapter 168 : Throwing Down the White Lotus
“How about we attend this week’s alumni reunion together?”
Caught between the two, Lu Yunyao listened to their conversation about the past and, for some reason, felt a pang of discomfort.
In a corner of her heart, it seemed to ache a little, leaving her feeling unsettled.
“Will Mr. Fu agree to attend the alumni reunion with Miss Bai?”
He probably won’t refuse.
After all, Mr. Fu is such a nice person, he surely won’t turn down such a small request.
Lu Yunyao felt as though her chest was blocked with a lump of cotton, and her eyes began to well up.
Fu Sichan suddenly asked, “Miss Bai, where do you live?”
Bai Xuan’s heart leaped with joy, and she responded casually, “Why? Senior Brother wants to visit my home? I’m always welcome. I’m currently living at…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Fu Sichan interrupted her.
“No need to tell me, just inform the driver.”
Bai Xuan was confused.
Fu Sichan coldly issued two words, “Stop.”
The driver pulled over.
Fu Sichan got out of the car with his little wife.
Bai Xuan was left in an awkward position, unsure whether to get out or stay in, her face turning a shade of green from embarrassment.
“Senior Brother, what is this about?”
“I was disgusted at dinner and have a bad appetite. I’m taking my wife out for a late-night snack.”
Fu Sichan’s voice was icy, and his gaze was even colder.
Bai Xuan shivered at his look.
Despite being someone she had admired for years, why did his stern face make her feel so fearful?
Fu Sichan instructed the driver, “Find out Miss Bai’s address and ensure she gets home safely. Don’t let down the old lady’s trust.”
This implied that sending Bai Xuan home was his grandmother’s request, not his own.
“I understand, Mr. Fu. I’ll make sure Miss Bai gets home safely as the old lady requested.”
Fu Sichan led the bewildered Lu Yunyao away.
Bai Xuan watched them leave from the car, feeling a mix of frustration and helplessness.
She had planned to use the car ride to get closer to Senior Brother, not because she actually needed the ride!
Now, with Senior Brother having left, she was left alone in the car, feeling awkward and like an outsider.
Bai Xuan’s face alternated between green and white, her frustration nearly taking her breath away.
“Miss Bai, are we leaving?” the driver asked.
Bai Xuan clenched her fists, forcing a smile.
“Yes, let’s go.”
As this was Senior Brother’s driver, she couldn’t show her displeasure, lest she spoil her image in front of him.
…
Lu Yunyao still hadn’t fully grasped what had happened.
She blinked her bright eyes and asked in confusion, “Mr, aren’t you going to the alumni reunion with Miss Bai?”
Fu Sichan replied with a question, “Why should I go with her?”
“Because… because you’re a nice person.”
Fu Sichan was almost amused by her response.
“Little girl, your perception is really off.”
In the entire world, perhaps only she would think that he was a nice person.
Don’t think that he is naturally indifferent or uninterested in alumni reunions, even if he were to attend, he certainly wouldn’t go with Bai Xuan.
He despises trouble above all.
Women signify endless trouble.
The only exception is the little girl in front of him.
Though she is also troublesome, he somehow doesn’t find her annoying. On the contrary, he is more than willing to handle these troubles for her.
“Mr, why don’t you call me ‘little blind girl’ anymore?”
Lu Yunyao suddenly realized that she hadn’t heard him call her that in a long time.
If it were according to his previous nature, he would have definitely called her ‘little blind girl’ again.
Fu Sichan explained calmly:
“You didn’t like that nickname, did you?”
Lu Yunyao stopped in her tracks, her eyes widening in surprise.
Then, the light in her eyes gradually brightened, more radiant than a sky full of stars.
So it was because he knew she didn’t like it that he had stopped using that nickname.
For a moment, Lu Yunyao felt an indescribable joy in her heart.
Every word she said was remembered by her husband. This kind of sweetness is something those who are not married would not understand.
Fu Sichan asked her, “What do you want to eat?”
Lu Yunyao thought for a moment.
“I want to eat hot pot. Is that okay?”
Fu Sichan frowned.
He maintained a healthy lifestyle and generally didn’t like heavy-flavored food.
But seeing the little girl clinging to his arm and acting cute, he thought of how her appetite had not been good recently, and her little face had thinned out.
It’s rare for her to want something she likes, so he decided to go along with it.
“Alright, let’s go. I’ll take you.”
Lu Yunyao’s face lit up with a smile. “Mr, you say you’re not a nice person, but you’re clearly very soft-hearted.”
As long as she acts cute, Mr always gives in.
Fu Sichan curved his lips, too lazy to explain to this silly girl.
He wasn’t patient with everyone.
…
The hot pot restaurant was lively, with many diners even at this hour.
Lu Yunyao listed the dishes she wanted, and Fu Sichan, indifferent to whether they could finish them, ordered everything.
When the dishes arrived, Fu Sichan took away her chopsticks.
“Mr? What are you doing?”
“I’ll help you cook. Just wait patiently to eat.”
Since she couldn’t see, Fu Sichan was worried she might get burned.
Lu Yunyao felt warm inside. “Okay, thank you, Mr.”
“Mr, why did you mention great-grandchildren to Grandma? There are no great-grandchildren, right?”
Fu Sichan used a napkin to wipe the chili oil from the corner of her lips.
“Grandma mistakenly thought you were pregnant earlier. I was afraid she would be disappointed, so I just went along with it.”
Lu Yunyao understood. “No wonder every time we visited Grandma, you always had me hold a small pillow in my belly.”
Now she finally understood why Fu Sichan did that.
Lu Yunyao’s little face showed a hint of distress.
“But Mr, I’m not pregnant. What if Grandma finds out and is very disappointed?”
Fu Sichan replied, “You will get pregnant sooner or later.”
As long as it happens within ten months, he can tell Grandma the truth. It’s just a matter of a few months’ delay for the great-grandchild, which is not a big deal, it will be easier for Grandma to accept.
Lu Yunyao touched her flat stomach.
“Mr, if I can’t get pregnant, would you be disappointed in me?”
“Don’t talk nonsense.”
Lu Yunyao puffed up her cheeks. “I’m not talking nonsense, I’m serious. If I really can’t get pregnant, would you divorce me?”
She had seen those family dramas where women who couldn’t have children were labeled as “useless hens” by their husbands and mothers-in-law.
Lu Yunyao was worried that Mr would also come to dislike her.
Fu Sichan’s gaze darkened. “No matter what happens, you are my only other half.”
“Even if I can’t get pregnant, you won’t divorce me?”
“There is no divorce, only…”
Lu Yunyao’s eyes brightened. “Only widowhood. I understand, Mr.”
Although the term was a bit frightening, for her, having grown up in an environment lacking love, this kind of commitment was what she admired most.
No matter what happens, no matter what problems arise, they would never be separated.
This sense of security was what Lu Yunyao desired most.
