Chapter 17 : Marital Duties?
Fu Sichan received a call from his secretary and He walked to the French window and put the phone to his ear to answer it.
“Mr. Fu, we have checked Mu Qianqian’s recent activities over the past few years, and we found no evidence of any connection between her and the adopted daughter of the Lu family. The day she went to the school, it appears to have been a coincidence, not a pre-arranged visit.”
Fu Sichan, being the cautious person he was, needed to ensure that Mu Qianqian had no ulterior motives, even though she was only his public wife.
If she harbored ill intentions, he would not hesitate to take action.
Upon hearing the secretary’s report, Fu Sichan responded with a soft “Hmm,” “Good job. your bonus will be doubled this month.”
“Thank you, Mr. Fu!” The secretary expressed his sincere thanks and couldn’t help but add, “Mr. Fu, I’d like to say something personally. We found out that Mu Qianqian has had a difficult time at home, but she is kind-hearted, and both her neighbors and classmates speak highly of her. She is sincere and different from those women who try to climb the social ladder.”
Having worked with Fu Sichan for many years, the secretary had seen numerous women scheming to climb up the social ranks, each more ruthless and cunning than the last.
In a den of hungry wolves and venomous snakes, a pure and innocent little white rabbit had unexpectedly jumped in. It needed to be protected carefully.
Fu Sichan coldly interrupted, “What are you trying to say?”
“Mr. Fu, Mu Qianqian… she’s a good person. Knowing she’s taking care of you gives us, your subordinates, peace of mind.”
“This is my business, I’ll handle it.” Fu Sichan hung up the phone directly.
…
The sound of water in the bathroom stopped. Mu Qianqian emerged in a silk nightgown and was rummaging around the living room, seemingly looking for something.
Fu Sichan opened the balcony door and returned to the living room, “What are you looking for?”
“Mr. I can’t find the hairdryer.”
Fu Sichan frowned, “Why are you always losing things?”
Mu Qianqian stuck out her tongue and said good-naturedly, “I just forgot this time.”
She continued searching, bending over with the neckline of her nightgown open, exposing her fair skin.
Fu Sichan, as if burned, quickly averted his gaze.
He took out the hairdryer from the cabinet with a cold expression and handed it to her, “Stop looking.”
Even he remembered where she placed things, but she couldn’t.
Not only was she visually impaired, but she also seemed to be a bit scatterbrained.
“Thank you, Mr.” Mu Qianqian took the hairdryer and went to the side to dry her hair.
After drying her hair, she tidied up the cord and put the hairdryer back in the cabinet.
Fu Sichan’s gaze lingered on her.
Mu Qianqian had just finished her bath. Her cheeks were rosy and fair, so delicate that they seemed like they could be pinched to produce water. Her figure was petite, but after some time of taking care of herself, she had started to show a hint of grace, clearly outlined by the silk nightgown she wore.
In the past, when fiery supermodels and celebrities would compete to get close to Fu Sichan, his gaze remained unmoved.
But now, looking at Mu Qianqian’s slender and fragile frame, which had not yet fully developed into an alluring figure, somehow stirred a sense of heat within him.
It was quite perplexing.
Fu Sichan rubbed his brow, attributing it to the possibility that he was simply exhausted from work recently.
Mu Qianqian hesitated for a moment before walking over to him. “Mr. thank you.”
As she moved, a faint fragrance of shower gel followed her, a delicate floral scent.
“Thank me for what?” Fu Sichan asked, his hands in his pockets, his gaze turned towards the window.
“Thank you for taking me to meet your family.” Mu Qianqian spoke somewhat shyly and timidly, “It made me feel a bit of the warmth of family.”
Her words seemed like a stone dropped into the lake of Fu Sichan’s heart, sending ripples across it.
He turned back, his gaze restrained as it stayed on her face, not drifting even a fraction lower.
Fu Sichan’s Adam’s apple bobbed, “Mu Qianqian.”
“Hmm?”
“As long as you stay within your bounds, this family won’t fall apart.”
In that moment, Fu Sichan suddenly understood why everyone, including his grandmother and assistant, spoke highly of Mu Qianqian. Even his secretary couldn’t help but speak favorably of her.
It was because Mu Qianqian’s heart was full of love. She was like a little sun, able to illuminate those around her despite any setbacks or hardships she faced.
Who can resist the warmth and brightness of the sun?
So Fu Sichan couldn’t help but say these words.
After he said it, he was momentarily stunned.
However, there was no need to take back the words. He needed a wife to reassure his family, and Mu Qianqian seemed like a very suitable choice.
As long as she remained so well-behaved, he could allow her to solidify her position as Mrs. Fu and live a life of luxury and abundance.
Mu Qianqian was momentarily stunned, then smiled sweetly and took his hand. “Mr. don’t worry. I will do my best to manage our little home and won’t let this family fall apart.”
She didn’t have Fu Sichan’s level of scheming or intrigue, she simply thought that whoever treated her well, she would reciprocate.
Since Mr. was so good to her, she would be wholeheartedly good to him as well.
Even if, even if Mr. were an unattractive man, she would feel the same way.
Fu Sichan smiled with satisfaction. “How have things been at school?”
Mu Qianqian hesitated for a moment, only sharing the good parts and omitting the bad. “I’ve been doing well at school and have made some new friends.”
After all, Mr. had enough on his plate with work, she didn’t want to add to his worries.
“Well, that’s good.”
As it was getting late, Mu Qianqian prepared to go to bed.
Fu Sichan stopped her, “Wait a moment.”
Mu Qianqian nervously gripped the door handle, her heart pounding.
When Mr. stopped her at this moment, it couldn’t be that he wanted her to… fulfill her marital duties, could it?
Although she had decided to make their life together work, she still hadn’t seen what he looked like.
It wasn’t that she found him unattractive; she simply didn’t want her first time to be shrouded in uncertainty. She wanted to see her partner clearly first.
She couldn’t use the excuse of having her period either, since Mr. was well aware of her menstrual cycle.
Oh, what should she do…
Fu Sichan was unaware of Mu Qianqian’s complex thoughts.
He simply reminded her,“You haven’t had your milk.”
Mu Qianqian let out a long sigh of relief, moved to the living room, and picked up a glass. She sipped the milk slowly.
To make up for the nutritional deficiencies over the years, besides the various soups Liu Yi often made fish soup, chicken soup, and sea cucumber soup, she had a glass of milk every morning and evening without fail.
She almost forgot to have it.
After finishing the milk, she put the glass in the sink and walked past Fu Sichan. “Mr. I’m going to bed now.”
“Mm.” Fu Sichan nodded slightly.
Mu Qianqian pushed open the door to the guest room and, once inside, leaned against the door, lost in thought.
It was strange. She should have felt relieved, but why was there a tinge of disappointment in her heart?
