Chapter 209 : Rebirth Pill
“Mr…”
Lu Yunyao looked up, and Fu Sichan finally noticed the tears streaming down her face.
He frowned and quickly took out a handkerchief to wipe her tears.
“Why are you crying again?”
He gently wiped away her tears, but they flowed down like a broken faucet, impossible to stop.
Fu Sichan’s voice was filled with concern. “Stop crying, tears can affect your eyes’ recovery.”
Lu Yunyao knew her eyes weren’t fully healed and that she shouldn’t cry often.
But she couldn’t control her tears at all.
Just thinking about what Bai Xuan had said earlier made her heart ache like it was being pricked by needles.
Lu Yunyao forced herself to stop crying.
She raised her tear-streaked, delicate face, her eyes red and swollen, looking utterly pitiful.
“Mr, have you found out who poisoned me?”
Fu Sichan nodded slightly. “Yes, we’ve found out. It’s the old lady of the Lu family.”
Assistant Wang had gone with the police to find out the details and reported back to him.
Lu Yunyao asked, “Why would she poison me? What was the effect of that pill?”
She had never interacted with her grandmother before and held no grudges.
Why would her grandmother want to poison her?
“Yesterday at the Lu family home, Wang Tian almost ran into you, and Lu Yunbei scolded him a bit, which made the old lady hold a grudge.”
Wang Tianci had been jumping around like a monkey in the Lu family villa.
When Lu Yunyao stepped out of her room, Wang Tianci had rushed straight at her, nearly knocking her to the ground.
Let’s not forget, Lu Yunyao was pregnant!
Seeing this, Lu Yunbei had been very anxious and quickly had someone pull Wang Tianci away, giving him a talking-to.
After hearing this reason, Lu Yunyao found it absurd.
“Just because of that? But my brother didn’t even speak harshly, he just told him not to run around the house, as it could be dangerous. If he wants to play, he could go to the garden.”
Simply because of those ordinary words, her grandmother had held onto the grudge and secretly added something to her cup!
How could her grandmother’s heart be so biased?
Wang Tianci was her grandson; wasn’t she one too?
“The pill was bought by the old lady outside the Lu family villa. She happened to encounter a traveling doctor who was selling pills for preserving pregnancies. The old lady bought a ‘gender-switching pill’ and secretly put it in your cup when no one was watching.”
“She didn’t have time to dissolve it when I came back to the living room, so she just tossed it in.”
Lu Yunyao bit her lower lip. “What’s a gender-switching pill? What is that?”
“The old lady wanted to take revenge on you by trying to change the baby in your belly into a girl. In her eyes, if you gave birth to a girl, it would be the best revenge against you.”
After all, the old lady had a severe bias against girls, believing that giving birth to a boy was an honor while having a girl was shameful.
As long as Lu Yunyao gave birth to a girl, it would make her in-laws dislike her, causing her to be treated poorly.
Who told Lu Yunbei to say a couple of things to Wang Tianci just because Lu Yunyao was pregnant?
That was the treasure of the Wang family; no one could say a word against him!
Lu Yunyao found it difficult to understand the old lady’s way of thinking.
She gently touched her belly. “Whether it’s a boy or a girl, it’s still my treasure. I won’t feel disappointed or sad just because I’m having a daughter.”
The old lady thought having a daughter was a punishment for her, but Lu Yunyao completely disagreed!
Her child, regardless of gender, was a gift from heaven.
A look of fear crossed Fu Sichan’s eyes. “However, the experts tested that pill and found many ingredients meant for abortions, as well as some that could cause fetal deformities. Thankfully, you didn’t drink the water, otherwise…”
If Lu Yunyao had drunk from that cup, she likely wouldn’t have been able to keep the baby.
A moment’s carelessness could have cost both their lives!
Lu Yunyao gasped and instinctively protected her belly.
“Those folk remedies are truly untrustworthy.”
What good medicine could a traveling doctor sell?
The so-called “gender-switching pill” was clearly a scam.
It was impossible to change a baby’s gender!
Lu Yunyao exclaimed in anger, “It’s one thing for the pill to be ineffective, but to endanger the child! This doctor is simply inhumane!”
“Indeed, the doctor selling those pills often loitered around the villa area and has now been arrested.”
The villa community housed many wealthy wives who wanted to bear sons to secure their status.
So, things like the “gender-switching pill” sold very well.
They thought, even if the pills didn’t work, it wouldn’t hurt to try, and they could easily afford it.
But they never imagined the pill was actually poison for abortion!
Lu Yunyao recalled the pungent smell from the cup and felt a wave of fear wash over her.
That was close, she almost…
“What about my grandmother? Will she be sentenced?”
Fu Sichan replied coldly, “Even though you didn’t manage to drink the potion, she still committed the crime of poisoning and will at least spend some time in jail.”
Lu Yunyao wanted to say something but held back.
“I hope she reflects on her actions while she’s in there.”
If she wasn’t punished, she might never recognize her mistakes.
With the Lu family backing her, the old lady wouldn’t suffer too much in there, most likely just confined and unable to see her precious grandson.
Once they finished discussing the Lu family matters, Fu Sichan’s gaze returned to Lu Yunyao.
“Why were you crying earlier? Did something happen?”
As soon as the topic came up, a deep sense of disappointment and gloom appeared on Lu Yunyao’s delicate face.
She lowered her head, looking lost. “It’s nothing.”
But Fu Sichan wouldn’t let her avoid it; he gently grasped her chin and lifted her face.
At that moment, he noticed her eyes were red again.
His gaze was sharp, exuding an undeniable intensity.
No emotion on the girl’s face could escape his notice.
“If you don’t tell me, I’ll find out another way.”
Lu Yunyao closed her eyes, biting her lip and refusing to speak.
Fu Sichan directly instructed someone outside the room, “Check the hospital surveillance, find out who visited here just now.”
If the surveillance didn’t yield results, he would look into the girl’s phone.
He would surely find some clues.
Lu Yunyao knew her Mr. was meticulous with her inability to hide anything on her face, it was impossible to keep secrets from him.
But she still didn’t want to speak up.
That matter had hurt her too deeply.
It felt like a bloody wound on her heart, and every time it was touched, it left her gasping for breath.
“Mr. Fu, we found out that before you arrived, Miss Bai Xuan had come to the patient’s room.”
As soon as he heard Bai Xuan’s name, Fu Sichan immediately guessed what had happened.
