Chapter 4 : Getting a marriage certificate
Fu Sichan was sent out by Grandmother Fu.
In the capital’s elite circles, Fu Sichan, who commands authority and decisiveness, is simply a grandson who causes his family unrest by not getting married, in his grandmother’s eyes.
The assistant asked, “Mr. Fu, are you really going to marry Miss Mu?”
Fu Sichan, exhausted, rubbed his temples. “If getting married will put my grandmother’s mind at ease due to her health, then I suppose getting a marriage certificate is no big deal.”
Getting a marriage certificate doesn’t necessarily mean he acknowledges that young girl as his wife.
If she dares to be troublesome, he has a hundred ways to make sure she leaves empty-handed.
—
Mu Qianqian lay in the hospital bed, listening to the doctor’s diagnosis of her condition.
“Miss Mu’s vision can be restored through surgery, but it requires a senior specialist from abroad, and the cost is extremely high, at least an eight-figure sum.”
Mu Qianqian’s heart sank as she heard the news. She forced a gentle smile and said, “Thank you, doctor. I understand.”
Eight figures… How many years would it take for her to earn that much?
Even if she were to sell herself, she wouldn’t be able to pay it off.
So, Mu Qianqian decided to leave the hospital secretly. She didn’t want to be a burden to that kind old lady.
Shortly after the doctor left, Fu Sichan came to see her and coldly questioned, “Who told you to leave the hospital?”
Mu Qianqian lowered her head. “I’m sorry. I… I don’t want to go through with the treatment.”
“Why not?”
“The doctor said the surgery would cost eight figures, and I… I don’t have the money.”
Fu Sichan said firmly, “I already told you, I will cover all your treatment costs.”
Eight figures is nothing more than a drop in the bucket for the Fu family.
Mu Qianqian nervously clutched the blanket. “But with that much money, even if I were sold, I still couldn’t repay it.”
“That depends on who you sell yourself to.”
Mu Qianqian looked up in confusion. “I don’t understand what you mean.”
“Sell yourself to me.” Fu Sichan’s lips curled into a cold smile. “As long as you become my wife, it’s only natural for me to cover the surgery costs for my wife.”
Mu Qianqian’s heart wavered.
She wasn’t someone who loved wealth over poverty, marrying into a wealthy family wasn’t something she had aspired to.
But… if there was a chance to restore her vision, who would willingly give that up?
She longed to heal her eyes and return to university.
With that thought, Mu Qianqian made up her mind and nodded. “Alright, I will marry you.”
“This afternoon, I have some free time. I’ll take you to the civil affairs bureau to get the marriage certificate.”
“Ah, so fast?” Mu Qianqian nervously bit her lower lip.
Others were trying their best to marry into the Fu family, but she was not happy at all when she heard the news. Instead, she was very worried.
Her momentary panic made Fu Sichan think of a frightened deer in the forest, so adorable.
He slightly smiled and suddenly felt that this marriage might not be so bad.
At least, in the future, he would have someone like her around, a silly girl who wore all her emotions on her face.
Fu Sichan, who was accustomed to schemers and backstabbers, had never before encountered someone as pure and naive as Mu Qianqian.
He hoped… she wasn’t just pretending.
When Mu Qianqian first entered the hospital, Fu Sichan arranged for a nanny to take care of her daily needs.
The nanny dressed Mu Qianqian in a pure white outfit, making her appear even more delicate and flawless, like a blooming white jasmine.
Fu Sichan looked at her and felt a moment of distraction.
He quickly composed himself and said coldly, “Let’s go.”
The driver parked the car in front of the civil affairs bureau.
Fu Sichan took Mu Qianqian’s hand and they walked inside together.
During the wedding photo session, the staff couldn’t help but marvel, “You two are truly a match made in heaven. From afar, I almost thought you were celestial beings descended to earth. Please, bride, open your eyes for a moment.”
Mu Qianqian hesitated for a couple of seconds before opening her eyes.
The process was completed swiftly, and soon Mu Qianqian and Fu Sichan had a marriage certificate in their hands.
As Fu Sichan looked at the red booklet, he was captivated by Mu Qianqian’s photo.
It was the first time he had seen her with her eyes open. Those beautiful, bright eyes seemed as if they were dusty gemstones, lacking their usual luster, appearing gray and dim.
If her eyes could be healed, who knows how beautiful she might become, she would likely attract countless admirers.
Mu Qianqian didn’t expect that she would get married quickly.
Although she didn’t know what her husband looked like or his family background, the kind old lady must mean that her grandson wasn’t bad either.
At the very least, they were willing to help her with her eye treatment. If it had been someone else, they would have probably run away upon hearing the surgery costs.
Mu Qianqian took a deep breath and quickly accepted the reality of her flash marriage.
“I have some matters at the company. My assistant will take you back to the hospital.”
“Alright.”
Fu Sichan was somewhat satisfied with her response.
Initially, he was worried that this young girl might become a nuisance and affect his work.
So far, she seemed to know her place.
Fu Sichan was focused solely on economic trends and company reports, and he had always disliked clingy women.
The assistant took Mu Qianqian back to the hospital. Seeing her quiet and obedient demeanor, they couldn’t help but strike up a conversation. “Did you just start university this year?”
“Yes.” Mu Qianqian nodded. “I started school a bit late, so I’m just in my first year.”
She was a top student, but because her parents wanted her to stay home and take care of her younger brother, they had tried to withdraw her from school twice.
Mu Qianqian had a good temperament, but she wasn’t naive. Growing up in such a family, not studying meant no future. So she had worked hard to return to school.
Although she had been delayed by two years, the result was good in the end; she had finally been admitted to her dream school.
Once her eyes were treated, she could go back to university.
“I’d like to ask you to tell Mr. Fu that once my eyes are healed, I will voluntarily divorce him and won’t bother him.”
“Hmm? Why do you call Mr. Fu like that?”
Mu Qianqian said innocently: “Isn’t Mr. Fu’s name Mr. Fu?”
She heard the woman call him “Mr. Fu” and thought his name was “Mr. Fu.”
The assistant couldn’t help but chuckle. “Miss Mu, you’re so innocent and pure.”
With such an inexperienced young girl, the assistant couldn’t believe she could be the scheming type who would set up traps for the old lady.
It must have been a misunderstanding.
Just before getting out of the car, Mu Qianqian’s phone suddenly rang with an alarmingly loud ringtone.
She pulled her phone out of her bag and awkwardly covered the earpiece. “Sorry, my phone can’t adjust the volume.”
She was using an old model discarded by her younger brother, with a cracked screen and no way to adjust the volume.
Every time there was an incoming call, it was as noisy as if a house were being torn down.
Mu Qianqian fumbled to find the answer button, and as soon as she pressed it, her mother’s sharp, harsh voice came through the earpiece “So you think you’re all grown up and can stay out at night? Where have you been? Hurry up and get back here! The man I found for you is coming to propose today, you need to be here to meet him.”
