Chapter 74 : Jealousy and Favoritism
In the evening, Fu Sichan returned from the office.
“Didn’t I tell you? I would be coming back late today, so you should have eaten first. Why haven’t you eaten?”
Mu Qianqian was listening to music on the sofa. Upon hearing the familiar footsteps, she took off her headphones and went to greet him.
“I’m not hungry. I wanted to wait for you to eat together.”
The food on the table had already gone cold.
Fu Sichan reminded her, “Next time, you don’t have to wait for me. Eat when you’re hungry.”
“Okay.”
Mu Qianqian always agreed to this but still waited for him to come home before eating.
Sometimes, when the girl was stubborn, Fu Sichan found it hard to deal with her.
“I’ll heat up the food. You sit and wait.”
Fu Sichan reheated the dishes and brought them back to the table.
He placed Mu Qianqian’s favorite dishes in front of her, sweet and sour ribs, cola chicken wings, and large shrimp she liked.
Mu Qianqian smelled the aroma and knew that all the delicious food had been placed in front of her.
The older man always managed to touch her with these little details.
Mu Qianqian reached for a piece of fish, and Fu Sichan noticed.
“Want some fish?”
Mu Qianqian licked her lips, “Mm.”
“You’re just like a little kitten.” Fu Sichan’s lips curved into a smile, his previously cold demeanor softening into warmth.
Having lived together for a while, Fu Sichan had gradually learned Mu Qianqian’s preferences.
The little girl liked sweet foods, couldn’t handle much spice, and really enjoyed fish.
“Don’t touch the food.”
Mu Qianqian obediently put down her chopsticks.
Fu Sichan placed the fish in front of him and carefully removed the bones with chopsticks.
“You can eat now. Be careful.”
The deboned fish was placed in front of Mu Qianqian.
As she ate the tender fish, she suddenly felt an urge to cry.
Her family only gave her plain rice and leftover dishes.
But the older man would always place all the best food in front of her.
This was the favoritism she had always dreamed of.
Not seeking wealth or status, just a forever special favor.
Seeing Mu Qianqian frown and remain silent, Fu Sichan’s expression turned worried. “What’s wrong? Is there a bone?”
He extended his hand towards her, “Spit it out quickly.”
A person with obsessive cleanliness was actually willing to let someone spit into his hand.
Mu Qianqian shook her head, “No.”
“Spit it out quickly.” Fu Sichan’s tone was urgent and a bit stern.
He was so anxious that he pinched her face, forcing her to open her mouth.
Mu Qianqian, startled by his intensity, had no choice but to spit the fish out into his hand.
“Is it better now? Are there still any bones?”
Mu Qianqian timidly replied, “No, there aren’t.”
In fact, there were no bones to begin with.
The older man had been so meticulous that he had already removed all the bones.
Fu Sichan sighed in relief, threw the contents of his hand into the trash, and went to wash his hands.
He stood at the sink, washing his hands repeatedly, over a dozen times.
Even Fu Sichan himself couldn’t understand why he had let her spit into his hand.
Was he out of his mind?
After much thought, Fu Sichan could only come up with one reason.
If Mu Qianqian had swallowed a fish bone and got choked, he would have had to take her to the hospital. His grandmother would then blame him for not properly taking care of his wife.
By doing this, he spared himself a lot of trouble and avoided his grandmother’s nagging.
……
After dinner, Mu Qianqian decided to tell Fu Sichan about what had happened during the day.
She knew that her experience was limited and she wasn’t very mature. Sharing her problems with Fu Sichan and hearing his opinion would be beneficial.
“They came to find you?”
Upon hearing the mention of her family, Fu Sichan couldn’t help but frown.
He knew all too well how they tormented Mu Qianqian.
“Yes, we went to a mall and had a meal. Later… I came back with Wanqing.”
Fu Sichan nodded approvingly, “Well done.”
Mu Qianqian bit her lower lip, hesitantly speaking, “Mr., I feel a bit guilty.”
She wasn’t sure if she had been too harsh.
“It’s normal to feel this way. The pressure from your family of origin isn’t easy to shake off. The fact that you recognize they’re hurting you and have the thought of resisting shows you’ve made progress.”
In the past, Mu Qianqian wouldn’t have dared to confront her family.
This time, having the courage to deny them the chance to exploit her was already a significant achievement.
Mu Qianqian nervously asked, “Mr. do you think I did the right thing?”
She was afraid that her Mr. might think she was too cold-hearted.
What Mu Qianqian didn’t realize was that her concerns were completely unnecessary.
In Fu Sichan’s eyes, this level of revenge was nothing more than a tickle.
Fu Sichan’s methods of dealing with enemies were far colder and more ruthless than this.
“If you’re unsure how to treat others, imagine yourself as a mirror. Treat others as they treat you.”
Fu Sichan’s words made Mu Qianqian ponder.
She thought about it seriously for a while, and suddenly, clarity dawned on her. The confusion that had been troubling her dissipated in an instant.
“Thank you, Mr. I understand what I should do now.”
Fu Sichan casually asked, “How did you get back?”
“Mr. Ye gave me a ride.”
Fu Sichan’s movements froze, and the atmosphere around him instantly turned icy.
His gaze was dark, and his voice was low and sensual, “Mr. Ye? Ye Xuanlin?”
Mu Qianqian, unable to see the dangerous undertone in his eyes, nodded honestly.
“Yes.”
But soon, she began to feel a bit uneasy.
After all, she had promised her Mr. to keep her distance from Mr. Ye.
However, she hadn’t deliberately approached Mr. Ye, it was just that she and Wanqing were good friends, so it was inevitable they’d run into Mr. Ye. What could she do?
Mu Qianqian quickly reassured him, “Mr. if this happens again, I will decline Mr. Ye’s offer and take a taxi back myself.”
Fu Sichan pinched her cheek.
“If this happens again, call me, and I’ll arrange for someone to pick you up.”
“Okay, I’ll remember.”
Mu Qianqian naively thought that the matter was settled.
But she underestimated how petty some men could be.
In the evening, Fu Sichan was helping Mu Qianqian with her homework.
He gave her a few problems to solve.
After hearing the problems, Mu Qianqian had a bad premonition. She struggled with the pen on the paper for a long time but still had no idea.
“Mr. today’s problems are so difficult… Can you give me a hint?”
Fu Sichan replied coldly, “No.”
“Okay.”
Mu Qianqian had to figure it out on her own.
Not only were today’s problems hard, but there were also a lot of them.
Mu Qianqian clung to Fu Sichan’s arm, acting coquettish, “Mr. can I do these problems tomorrow?”
Usually, this tactic worked well.
As long as she acted cute and persisted, Fu Sichan would agree to whatever she asked.
But today, it didn’t seem to work.
“No, there will be new problems tomorrow.”
Mu Qianqian was at her wit’s end, struggling with the difficult problems all evening.
She was too preoccupied with her homework to think about Mr. Ye.
Even at night, she dreamed that Mr. pressed her down in front of a desk and forced her to do homework.
