Chapter 89 : Butterfly Birthmark
That day, Lu Yunxiang visited her mother in the hospital.
“Mom, please take care of yourself. I believe that my sister will be back soon.”
Lu’s mother looked out of the window, deeply sighing.
“I don’t know how my Yaoyao is doing. Has she suffered all these years? Oh…”
“Don’t worry, Mom. My sister has good fortune and will eventually return to the Lu family.”
Lu’s mother withdrew her gaze and looked at Lu Yunxiang. Her attention was immediately drawn to the red mark on Lu Yunxiang’s collarbone.
“Why do you have a red mark here?”
Lu Yunxiang smiled, “I had a dream these past few days where a deity told me I was a butterfly fairy. When I woke up, this red mark appeared on my collarbone.”
Lu’s mother stared at the butterfly-shaped birthmark, her breathing becoming rapid.
“Yaoyao has an identical birthmark, but it’s on her back.”
Lu Yunxiang feigned surprise, “What? My sister has a birthmark?”
“Yes. I haven’t told anyone about this. How did you suddenly dream of a deity and get a birthmark? Could it be that… Yaoyao is in trouble?”
Lu’s mother felt a pang of fear in her heart.
“It’s impossible. My sister will be fine. I’ll have this mark removed, even if it means scraping off a layer of skin!”
Lu Yunxiang’s eyes welled up with tears, showing genuine concern for her sister.
Lu’s mother quickly stopped her, “I’ve already lost one daughter. I can’t bear to see you suffer as well. Since this birthmark has appeared on you, it means you and your sister are fated to be connected. Keep it well.”
“Alright, I’ll listen to you.”
Lu Yunxiang obediently lowered her head, hiding the fleeting joy in her eyes.
This birthmark wasn’t an accidental occurrence, she had it specially marked with a unique solution.
The process was excruciating, but she was relieved to have deceived her adoptive mother, feeling that her suffering hadn’t been in vain.
After Lu Yunxiang left, Lu’s mother called Lu Feng.
“Feng, my health is declining day by day. I’m afraid I won’t have a chance to see Yaoyao again before I pass. If I’m gone, please leave my dowry to Yunxiang.”
Lu’s mother also came from a prestigious family and had brought a massive dowry into the Lu family when she married.
If her dowry were left to Lu Yunxiang, her value would skyrocket, providing her with more wealth than she could spend in several lifetimes.
Lu Yunxiang, hiding outside the hospital room, almost couldn’t contain her ecstatic feelings upon hearing this news.
She was going to get rich!
Even if the Lu family expelled her once she received her mother’s dowry, she wouldn’t have to worry anymore.
Lu Feng frowned upon hearing this news, “Why are you thinking about Yaoyao again? Didn’t I tell Yunxiang and Yunbai not to mention Yaoyao in front of you?”
Yunbai, he knew, would never intentionally mention Yaoyao in front of his mother.
So it must be… Lu Yunxiang.
How could this child be so disobedient? Knowing that her adoptive mother’s health was poor, she still deliberately brought up painful old matters to upset her. What was she really up to?
“Don’t misunderstand Yunxiang. She misses her sister so much. Recently, she dreamed of a deity who said she was a butterfly fairy and that she had a birthmark identical to Yaoyao’s. I think Yaoyao might…”
At this point, Lu’s mother broke down in tears.
“Impossible! I don’t believe in these superstitions.”
“Then how do you explain the birthmark on Yunxiang?”
Lu Feng, having navigated the business world for many years, would not be easily deceived by such tricks. His tone carried a hint of anger.
“First, focus on your recovery. I will send someone to investigate this matter.”
He wanted to find out where Lu Yunxiang had learned about Yaoyao’s birthmark and why she had deliberately used it to gain her adoptive mother’s favor.
Lu’s mother often treated Lu Yunxiang as her own daughter, but Lu Feng had strongly opposed adopting a child back then. He remained distant and wary of Lu Yunxiang.
An adopted child could never compare to one’s own blood.
—
Lu Yunbai was sitting in the car, about to go to the Finance University to watch the beauty pagent.
He received a call from his father.
“Dad, is there something wrong with the company?”
“It’s not about the company. It’s about Lu Yunxiang.”
Lu Yunbai frowned and asked, “What happened to her?”
“She seems to have heard that your sister has a red butterfly birthmark. Did you tell her about this?”
Lu Yunbai denied, “No, I didn’t. Why would I tell her something like that?”
“That’s strange. Very few people know about this. Where could she have learned it from?”
Lu Yunbai pondered for a moment and then said urgently “Dad, let me go find her and clarify this.”
“But don’t you have an appointment with Miss Ye this afternoon?”
“Yes, she asked me to watch her friend’s competition. I’m not really interested in it. It might be better for me to go find out about this matter with Yunxiang first and then attend the competition later.”
His mention of “sister” naturally referred to his biological sister, not Lu Yunxiang.
If he could clarify things with Lu Yunxiang, there was a good chance he could find clues about his sister.
“There’s no rush. She won’t run away. You should go and accompany Miss Ye first. She came all the way to Bei City to fulfill the engagement. It would be rude to miss the appointment without good reason.”
“You’re right. I’ll check with her later.”
After all, Lu Yunxiang would not be leaving the Lu family anytime soon.
He decided to attend the competition first and then clarify the matter later.
—
“Qianqian, your performance is scheduled later, so try not to get nervous.”
“Yeah, Qianqian, just imagine the audience as a bunch of cabbages. That way, you won’t be so nervous.”
Mu Qianqian covered her mouth and chuckled.
“Siyu, Yanran, why do I feel like you two are even more nervous than I am?”
Her two friends had been giving her tips on how not to be nervous for ages.
But she wasn’t actually that nervous.
Li Siyu smiled, “After all, this is your first time participating in such a big competition. Of course, I’m nervous for you.”
Fang Yanran whispered, “I heard that Senior Gu is also here.”
“Which Senior Gu?”
“Gu Qingyu, Senior Gu. She originally missed the registration deadline but managed to get in through connections.”
Hearing this name, Mu Qianqian’s mood soured a bit.
However, with so many people around, even if Gu Qingyu wanted to cause trouble, she would have to be cautious about her behavior.
“Qianqian, why have you been holding onto your phone the whole time? Are you waiting for a message from someone?”
“Oh, no.”
Mu Qianqian hesitated for a moment before putting her phone into her pocket.
Actually, she had been waiting for a message from Mr.
But she hadn’t received anything for a long time.
Mr. should have been out of town by now, so it was likely he couldn’t make it to her competition.
