Chapter 4 – Stay for a While
In the courtyard, besides the glass greenhouse, there were several large tanks with hydroponic plants.
After his parents left, Lin Mu no longer took care of the plants in the tanks, and they had long withered and died, but they could still store water.
By the time he had inspected and reinforced all the doors and windows, it was already evening.
Quietly leaning against the corridor, Lin Mu had been busy all day, feeling sore and tired. His weary eyes looked towards the entrance of the greenhouse.
His wet hair stuck to his face, making his complexion look even worse. Perhaps it was the cold, as his hand hanging by his side trembled slightly.
The rain was still heavy, and the sky was dark. Occasionally, lightning would flash across his face.
Since his parents left, he had never entered this greenhouse again.
He moved his stiff hand, let out a sigh, and finally walked towards the greenhouse…
—
Amidst the mountains and forests, footsteps were scattered.
“Ah, Lao San, what are you doing? Are you crazy? He is Hou Zi!” A furious voice echoed through the woods.
The person who called Hou Zi was quickly caught by Lao San, who pinned him to the ground. Before he could react, he was fiercely bitten, accompanied by a foul smell.
In an instant, blood was washed away by raindrops, revealing a horrifying wound.
In agony, he let out a howl, “Ah, my face! F*ck, ah—”
Lao San, who usually looked the skinniest, suddenly seemed much stronger. The remaining person quickly approached and tried to pry him off Hou Zi by twisting his shoulder.
Lao San remained motionless, only lowering his head to continue gnawing on the person, filling the air with the scent of blood.
“He’s gone mad—”
In the chaos, Lao San also tore off a piece of flesh from the person’s wrist. “F*ck—”
The person, in pain, loosened his grip and rolled to the side.
The flashlight that had fallen to the ground rolled a few times, and its bright light happened to illuminate Lao San’s face.
That face, mixed with mud and blood, had eyes that no longer had pupils, gray and embedded in the face.
In the terrifying rainy night, both of them were filled with extreme fear, as if they were seeing a ghost.
“Ah, what the f*ck is this? Damn—”
The man was filled with horror, and the instinct to survive made him disregard his companion. He crawled and ran towards the deep mountains.
The young man, who had fallen far behind, heard intermittent screams through the sound of rain. He twirled the silver gun on his fingertips and tucked it into his pants.
Raising an eyebrow, he lifted his leg and followed.
This was an exceptionally… handsome young man, or perhaps it couldn’t be described as just handsome, but rather, beautiful.
His facial features were perfectly proportioned. A faint smile lingered at the corners of his mouth, yet his eyes were calm, deep, and unreadable.
The military green raincoat did nothing to diminish his good looks. His feet were clad in boots that seemed regimented, and the thick soles made him tower at a height of 1.9 meters. When he lifted his leg, his well-defined calf muscles were revealed.
He carried a small bag on his back and walked with ease and stability, not at all like someone in the muddy mountains.
As the young man approached, the desperate cries for help, which had been roaring before, weakened.
He curled his lips into a casual smile. ‘What a hassle.’
Shaking off the rainwater from his face, in the darkness, he seemed to be able to see the person on the ground as if he had a clear view.
This glance made the young man’s face turn cold. It seemed that the rate of mutation mentioned by the scientific institute had exceeded expectations.
He waved his hand and no one saw what he did. The two people on the ground disappeared without a sound.
These two people have already mutated and cannot be saved.
After dealing with the two people, the young man looked at the dark mountains in front of him and pondered for two seconds before deciding not to chase after the one who had escaped.
Anyway, in less than two days, there will be countless people like that in Yichang City.
He lifted his gaze and looked down at the mountain from a distance. His cold and deep eyes were as dark as ink.
‘I remember there is a small town below the mountain. Let’s find a place to stay for a while.’
