Chapter 10 Kicked Away by the Boss
The screaming townspeople below suddenly fell silent.
They felt a terrifying aura emanating from the air, perhaps because this young man was too fierce…
Among the seven townspeople, aside from one named Zhang Qiang, there were two men in their forties, one named Liu Jianjun and the other named Liu Jianming. They were brothers from the same family.
The other two were young men, around twenty years old, with dyed yellow(Huang Mao) and green hair(Lu Mao), giving them the appearance of delinquents.
The remaining two were women. The younger one appeared to be only seventeen or eighteen years old, named Li Tingting, while the older one was Zhang Yu Fen, Zhang Qiang’s aunt.
Lin Mu understood Fu Jingmo’s meaning and pointed to a room in the corner on the first floor.
“There’s a storage room over there. Find some handy tools. Those people outside have already turned into mutants, they’re no longer human. If you don’t kill them, they’ll eventually break in. Get a few chairs to stand on the wall and clean them up.”
Lin Mu had no intention of helping. From his observation, these zombies had no consciousness. Besides having increased strength, they could only bite people and had no intelligence.
With the wall blocking them, they could easily clean them up.
He considered himself not to be a person overflowing with sympathy.
The group of people agreed. Most of the townspeople were simple-minded, and since Lin Mu had saved them, they were unwilling to cause trouble for him.
Now being able to hide in the yard is already good enough.
The two young men seemed like they wanted to say something, but considering Fu Jingmo, they held back and reluctantly went to find tools.
Lin Mu returned to the second floor and watched downstairs together with Fu Jingmo.
“Tingting, Auntie, you don’t have to work hard. Leave it to us.”
Zhang Qiang told the two women and took a hatchet, standing on the wall.
Auntie shook her head and climbed up beside him, holding an axe in her hand.
“Auntie is stronger, Tingting is young, it’s better for her to rest.”
The guy with yellow hair next to them sneered, “What time is it? Still trying to be heroes? If they don’t kill them, then why bother doing their work?”
“I guess they find this little girl attractive, hehehe.”
The guy with green hair whispered a few words into the ear of the guy with yellow hair, and they both laughed disgustingly.
Zhang Qiang was an honest person, his dark face turning red with anger. “I’ll do what I can do, you guys can do your own work.”
After a few people were all crouched on the wall, they hesitated to take action.
The zombies here were all residents of the town, and the town was small, so everyone knew each other by name.
At this moment, they were outside the wall, reeking of decay, resembling neither humans nor ghosts. They only made hissing noises as they lunged toward them, attempting to reach out.
On the other hand, the seemingly calm Liu Jianming swung a shovel and struck a head with a bang.
He muttered to himself, “I still have to go to the city to find my daughter. I have to get out, I have to get out…”
With him leading the way, the remaining people silently started to take action.
Everything downstairs was within sight, and Lin Mu was also witnessing this scene for the first time, feeling uneasy in the end.
At this moment, he keenly felt that the civilized world in which humanity had survived for thousands of years had collapsed.
“Are you afraid?”
Fu Jingmo spoke indifferently, his eyes showing no fluctuations, as if he didn’t care much about the scene in front of him.
Lin Mu remained silent. It would be false to say that he wasn’t afraid, but since the incident had already occurred, there was no other way but to quickly accept it…
As evening approached, after a long period of rainy weather, the sudden clearing sky allowed the setting sun to descend from the horizon, casting a warm glow over the small courtyard.
Lin Mu turned his head, his gaze shifting upward. Fu Jingmo’s profile in the warm light gave him a sense of indistinctness…
Outside the courtyard, there were only a few zombies left. Zhang Qiang single-handedly took care of most of them. His strength seemed unusually great, as he could easily split a zombie’s head with a single blow. Lin Mu keenly sensed something unusual.
“Don’t you think… Zhang Qiang is a bit strange?”
Fu Jingmo happened to be looking at Zhang Qiang as well. “He succeeded in the mutation, gaining enhancements in terms of strength.”
“Mutation succeeded?”
“Yes, since a failed mutation would turn someone into a zombie, naturally there would be individuals who have successfully mutated. They gain special ability. As for the rest of the people who resisted the virus but didn’t have a successful mutation, they remain ordinary humans.”
Fu Jingmo was forthcoming with answers. These were the research findings provided by the organization, which would soon be disseminated.
Lin Mu nodded thoughtfully and blurted out, “Then you…”
This time, Fu Jingmo didn’t respond. He stood up straight and said, “Let’s go down. They have taken care of it.”
Lin Mu realized he had been impulsive. Why would someone tell a stranger their secrets? He shook his head and followed him downstairs.
Except for Li Tingting, everyone was panting, looking at Fu Jingmo and Lin Mu as they descended.
Fu Jingmo stopped in front of Green Hair and smirked, “You, get out.”
Lu Mao seemed to be afraid of Fu Jingmo. When he heard the command, his whole body trembled, but he still stubbornly shouted, “Who… who are you to tell me to leave? I helped you kill those monsters, and now you’re kicking me out!”
As soon as a few people heard this, they immediately took a few steps back, warily looking at Lu Mao. Zhang Qiang even pulled Li Tingting and Auntie behind him.
Lu Mao’s sleeve was pulled off by Huang Mao, revealing a bloody bite mark on his arm, which startled Huang Mao, causing him to take a big step back.
Previously, none of the people who were being chased noticed anything unusual.
Upon seeing the reaction of the crowd, Lu Mao became anxious. He swung the shovel in his hand and shouted, “I won’t go out, I won’t go out, I haven’t changed, I haven’t turned into a monster!”
He waved the shovel in his hand wildly, his eyes bloodshot.
Lin Mu stood behind Fu Jingmo and inexplicably felt relieved.
Growing impatient with the noise, Fu Jingmo kicked his foot, sending Lu Mao flying sideways. The shovel slipped from his hand and slammed into the courtyard’s gate with a loud bang. Lu Mao slumped to the side, making no sound.
He couldn’t be bothered anymore and turned back to the living room.
The kick surprised everyone, and Lin Mu’s eyes also flashed with a hint of astonishment. He said to Zhang Qiang, “Take him out.”
Zhang Qiang, along with the Liu brothers, threw the person out and took the opportunity to clear the zombies piled up outside the courtyard.
After they finished cleaning up, it was already dark.
They stood cautiously in the courtyard, with Huang Mao hanging his head and sitting in a corner, too afraid to speak.
Their clothes were dirty, stained with dirty blood from the zombies, making the courtyard a mess. They didn’t dare to enter the house with Fu Jingmo present.
Lin Mu couldn’t stand the stench either. He arranged for Auntie and Li Tingting to take a shower in the bathroom on the first floor, while the other men used a hose in the yard to rinse off.
Fortunately, they had escaped from their homes and had brought several spare clothes.
The two women went to the bathroom, leaving the remaining men unconcerned, stripping down to their underwear and washing themselves in the yard.
Lin Mu sat on the sofa in the living room, reflecting on what had just happened. From his seat, he could easily see the courtyard.
Fu Jingmo looked at the young man next to him, who had delicate eyebrows and a clear appearance. Suddenly, he casually turned his body and seemingly blocked the direction of the door.
