Chapter 106: Shancheng – The Giant Python Is Dead
The massive waves stirred up by the water engulfed the two of them, drenching them completely. Without the obstruction of its scales, Xiao Yuan managed to enter smoothly.
The closer he got to the giant python’s heart, the more wildly it thrashed. The intense pain and the imminent threat drove the giant python into a desperate frenzy.
At this critical moment, the iron chains proved to be invaluable. The mutated humans on the shore exerted all their strength to pull the iron chains. The giant python, overwhelmed, no longer had the energy to toss zombies around. After clearing the last wave on the rocky shore, everyone rushed over to help.
However, the furious and struggling giant python possessed immeasurable strength!
The iron chains lashed about wildly, scraping the mutated humans’ palms until they bled. The ground beneath their feet turned into a muddy mess, forming deep imprints wherever they stepped.
Fu Jingmo clung tightly to the edge of a snake scale, barely managing to stabilize himself. Meanwhile, Lin Mu’s body was already suspended in midair, swaying along with the giant python’s movements. If not for Xiao Yuan still being inside the python’s body, Lin Mu would have long been thrown into the river.
The giant python’s body was enormous, and Xiao Yuan was still desperately searching for the location of the energy core.
The entire surface of the river splashed chaotically as the enraged python bit down on several of the iron chains. With a violent shake, its flexible body lashed out, and its tail coiled up, sweeping toward Lin Mu and the others’ position.
Fu Jingmo gripped a snake scale tightly with one hand while a black blade shot out, striking the massive tail directly. The tail trembled and swayed to the side but quickly whipped back again with renewed force.
“Lin Mu, hurry up!”
Glancing at the young man suspended in midair, Fu Jingmo reached out and pulled him into his embrace.
The giant python’s body was incredibly tough. Lin Mu had collided with it countless times, leaving half of his body almost numb. His tilted collar exposed his shoulder, which was covered in bruises and purplish marks.
Fu Jingmo held him tightly with one arm, concern evident in his voice. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. It’s just that its body is too massive.”
Water droplets clung to Lin Mu’s pale face, and moisture lingered on the corners of his eyes and brows. Yet, his eyes remained bright and filled with determination.
The giant python was over a hundred meters long, with a girth of twenty to thirty meters, thicker than three train cars combined. Even though they knew the energy core was within this segment, finding such a small object in such a colossal body was no easy task.
Before they had a chance to say anything more, the python’s tail coiled around again. In that instant, both of them heard a loud crash as something plunged into the river.
The mutated humans on the shore desperately held onto the iron chains, but on the other end, the iron tower on the southern bank finally gave way. It toppled into the river with a tremendous splash.
With that side no longer restraining it, the giant python suddenly regained its freedom. Its massive head twisted nearly 180 degrees to look behind itself, its gray-white eyes fixated on its wounded area. It opened its enormous maw wide.
The sound of “gurgling” came, a noise both of them were all too familiar with—it was about to spray water again.
“Dodge!”
Fu Jingmo shouted sharply. His crouched body erupted with terrifying strength. Holding Lin Mu in one arm, he sprang upward, gripping onto the scales above and bracing himself firmly. His heavy breaths echoed near Lin Mu’s ears.
The giant python’s spray passed narrowly by their sides. Protected in Fu Jingmo’s embrace, Lin Mu didn’t get a single drop on him.
The slimy liquid trickled down the giant python’s body, making it increasingly difficult to maintain a grip on its scales. The python thrashed its body and head wildly, and those on the shore were too far away to offer any assistance.
He Ze and Shen Rangchen had also boarded a yacht and were steering it closer to them.
“Let go of me, I’m fine,” Lin Mu said, wiping the water off his face forcefully.
Fu Jingmo didn’t insist and released him.
The two were pressed close together. With the iron chains no longer restraining it and unable to gain any advantage, the giant python began attempting to escape, its massive body gradually sinking into the water.
Fu Jingmo unleashed several black blades, slashing at its tail. Instantly, a large portion of the scales flew off.
The pain caused the python to spring up violently. It finally realized that as long as the two people on its back remained, it couldn’t escape. Ignoring everything else, the python plunged sharply, submerging its entire body into the water.
The two barely managed to take a deep breath before being engulfed by the murky, foul-smelling river water.
Unable to breathe underwater, Lin Mu felt as though he was witnessing the most terrifying scene of his life.
The massive python’s body swept past right in front of him, and the water around them was filled with zombies, their rotting mouths gaping open through the cloudy water.
Countless fragments of corpses and severed limbs floated everywhere, threatening to collide with them at any moment!
The river’s center was 20 meters deep, making it the giant python’s domain once submerged. While the zombies couldn’t harm the python, they posed a grave threat to Lin Mu and Fu Jingmo.
Fu Jingmo released his grip and began dealing with the surrounding zombies. Lin Mu struggled to kick away two of them, but the movements quickly drained the air from his lungs.
At most, they could only hold on for a few minutes. Lin Mu entrusted the surrounding zombies to Fu Jingmo, clung to Xiao Yuan, and focused all his efforts on searching for the energy core.
From the shore, the people could only see the giant python vanish beneath the surface, leaving behind waterlogged, pale zombies floating on the river.
The river’s surface occasionally churned with violent movements, preventing the yacht from getting too close. He Ze and the others could only focus on clearing as many zombies as possible.
Under Lin Mu’s palm was the python’s slimy flesh and blood. Gripping tightly, he held on with all his strength. Finally, Xiao Yuan seemed to have touched something, it was a pulsing object.
Yes!
It was the giant python’s heart!
The energy core had to be inside!
Gathering all his strength, Xiao Yuan swiftly plunged into the heart. At that very moment…
The giant python rolled violently, sending massive waves surging across the river. The people on the shore were caught in the chaos, thrown into disarray by the crashing waves.
Lin Mu gritted his teeth, not daring to loosen his grip even the slightest bit. His smooth fingernails were nearly torn away from the strain.
But the most terrifying part was that he was reaching his limit.
His lungs spasmed painfully, and Lin Mu clenched his teeth, holding onto the last traces of oxygen with every ounce of his willpower.
In the chaos, Lin Mu glanced toward the spot where Fu Jingmo had just been, but the person he expected to see was nowhere in sight.
Fu Jingmo was gone.
They had been separated!
A wave of panic surged in Lin Mu’s heart. He had to find the energy core—only by finding it would they have even the slightest chance of survival.
The white yacht looked like nothing more than a toy boat in front of the giant python, utterly incapable of approaching the turbulent water.
“What do we do? They’ve been underwater for so long! If the snake doesn’t eat them, they’ll drown!”
He Ze threw off his jacket. “I’m going in to find them!”
Shen Rangchen grabbed him firmly, his expression serious. “Wait. Try controlling the water’s surface first. Let’s get closer.”
He Ze looked at the river’s vast surface, then back at Shen Rangchen. It seemed impossible, this river was simply too wide.
“Just try.”
There was a hint of unwavering determination in Shen Rangchen’s otherwise calm eyes. He Ze suppressed his emotions and began channeling his energy.
Meanwhile, Fu Jingmo had been relentlessly clearing zombies from the river. However, in the moment when the giant python thrashed violently, its massive, rock-hard body struck him, sending him flying.
No matter how powerful his energy was, the sheer size of the python made even a glancing blow feel like being hit by a speeding train.
He was pushed more than ten meters away by the surging water. By the time he managed to return, he was no longer in the same spot. The giant python had surged forward, leaving him near its tail.
The water was too dangerous—a second longer meant an extra second of risk. Fu Jingmo gripped the python’s scales tightly and used the leverage to swim forward swiftly.
Lin Mu gritted his teeth as the python continued to dive deeper. The increasing water pressure caused his eardrums to throb painfully, while the air in his chest slowly vanished. His lungs felt like they were about to burst under the crushing force.
Xiao Yuan navigated through the mass of flesh and blood, and finally, it penetrated the heart and touched… the energy core!
The energy core was frantically absorbed by the vines, causing the giant python’s entire body to tremble violently. Its massive form began to stiffen inch by inch, convulsing uncontrollably.
Xiao Yuan emerged from the wound, and a surge of immense energy flooded into Lin Mu’s body. Just like last time, the overwhelming energy thickened his blood, making it viscous and suffocating.
Lin Mu finally couldn’t endure it any longer and slightly parted his lips.
With that tiny movement, the foul-smelling water instantly forced its way into his nose and mouth… invading his lungs. A torrent of bubbles burst out as he exhaled involuntarily.
The dizziness from severe oxygen deprivation caused his vision to go black.
His mind grew muddled, and his body began to sink…
The giant python nearby seemed to have stopped moving. Lin Mu felt a faint sense of relief—at least the python was dead.
What about Fu Jingmo? Without the python, he should be safe, right…?
His cold, clear eyes slowly closed, veiled by the murky river water and the countless clawing zombies.
The last image before his eyes was that sharp, resolute face, gradually drawing closer…
Fu Jingmo…
