Chapter 120: My Wife Likes Strawberry Milk
The next day, Shen Rangchen went out shopping with He Ze.
Fu Jingmo took a trip to the mission hall to meet Shao Yingjie.
When he returned, he was carrying a bag full of points. After all, they had solved the problem of the zombie python for Shancheng, so taking some points wasn’t unreasonable.
These points he earned himself had to be used to buy things for his wife.
With one hand in his pocket, he got into the car, took a turn, and headed to the Jiangbei Team’s mall, leisurely strolling around for a bit.
Strawberry milk: +3 boxes,
Strawberry milk candy: +2 packs,
Strawberry biscuits: +7 packs,
Strawberry jam: +3 jars,
Strawberry…
Anything in the mall that had the word “strawberry” on the packaging or had a picture of strawberries on it, Fu Jingmo bought it all.
Usually, the people who came here were frugal, carefully counting their points to buy the cheapest and most filling coarse grain biscuits.
Seeing someone spending points so extravagantly immediately sparked envy on their faces.
The cashier fiddled with an abacus, calculating the points using the most traditional method, silently making her own mental calculations.
“Sir, ah, there are also two boxes of strawberry chocolates here. Would you like them?”
The cashier, slyly opportunistic, dug out the chocolates from the drawer.
Two boxes of strawberry-flavored chocolates, even their wrappers were red.
Fu Jingmo tilted his chin slightly. “I’ll take them all.”
“Alright, alright. You must really like strawberries!”
“Mm, I don’t like them, but my wife does.”
His voice was a bit loud, and a few young women in line behind him, waiting to buy coarse grain biscuits, all heard him.
They knew that going out to hunt a single mutated creature would only earn them a dozen points at most, but here he was, spending over a hundred points on a pile of strawberry-flavored treats in one go.
In times like these, were such good men already married so young?
Whispers of envy floated over.
“His wife must be really beautiful.”
“Having a husband like that is truly a blessing.”
Fu Jingmo’s face remained calm and composed, but inwardly he was extremely pleased. With his strong arms, he effortlessly lifted the three pink boxes of strawberry milk.
He then grabbed the large bag of snacks and walked toward the car, feeling utterly delighted.
“Tsk, Lin Xiao Mu, you’ve really hit the jackpot. What an absolute gem of a man your husband is.”
“Not only handsome, but also treats his wife well, willing to put in effort, and loves you the most.”
The car headed straight back to the residential complex. Fu Jingmo easily carried everything up to the fifth floor. Like a peacock spreading its feathers, he strode into the room to find Lin Mu.
“Lin Xiao Mu, I bought you snacks!”
Lin Mu walked out of the bathroom and saw the room filled with pink strawberry-flavored treats and the smug expression on Fu Jingmo’s face. A small smile curved his brows and eyes.
He did indeed like strawberry-flavored things. When he was a child, his mother used to hand him a bottle of strawberry milk every morning.
He had gotten used to it and inexplicably grew fond of the flavor.
He crouched down to take a look, and a warm feeling rose in his heart. He glanced at the person beside him, and said softly, “Thank you.”
Fu Jingmo crouched down next to him, rummaged through the milk box, pulled out a bottle of milk, inserted a straw, and handed it to him. “Drink, drink.”
Lin Mu placed the straw in his mouth and took small sips. The pink milk traveled up the straw, and his Adam’s apple moved gently as he swallowed.
Fu Jingmo watched him for a moment, then leaned in and grabbed him by the neck, giving him a firm kiss.
His lips and tongue brushed against Lin Mu’s, tasting the flavor of the strawberry milk. He nodded and confirmed in a husky voice,
“Hmm, it is pretty good.”
Lin Mu leaned closer, his pink tongue lightly licking Fu Jingmo’s lips, and teased, “Want another taste?”
Lin Mu wasn’t some easily embarrassed young girl. Since they were already together, and Fu Jingmo had no sense of shame, why should he let himself be at the man’s mercy?
Caught off guard by Lin Mu’s sudden move, Fu Jingmo’s breath hitched. In his mind, he silently recited “moral discipline” and the “Ten Honors and Ten Disgraces.”[1]十榮十恥 (shí róng shí chǐ): “Ten Honors and Ten Disgraces.” A reference to a set of moral standards or codes, promoting virtues and condemning vices.
He couldn’t help but think that the good days needed to be brought forward sooner rather than later.
Lin Mu stored everything into his space, and the two decided to go and meet Ye Xing.
The car drove along the riverside, heading toward Wunan Tower.
Fu Jingmo steered with one hand while his right hand rested on Lin Mu’s knee. Lin Mu sipped on strawberry milk, feeling quite cheerful.
On the river, a few bamboo rafts floated by. Each raft carried two people—one navigating with a pole, while the other used their ability to cut down zombies on the rocky southern shore.
“With Chen Yu and the others, along with Commander Shao, Shancheng should be able to maintain peace pretty well,” Lin Mu remarked casually, gazing out the car window.
“Mm, but the situation in the cities further along doesn’t look optimistic. Bai Ying has taken over the Hanyang Safe Zone. If we’re heading to Fengcheng, we’ll most likely have to pass through Hanyang,” Fu Jingmo pondered. “I’ve never been able to figure out why he betrayed us.”
“If you can’t figure it out, then stop dwelling on it. Let’s focus on completing your mission first.”
“Lin Mu…”
“What is it?” Lin Mu turned his head to glance at him. Fu Jingmo rarely looked this serious.
“Honestly, I really don’t want you to come with me. If danger arises, make sure to protect yourself.”
“Mm… I know.”
The place where Fu Jingmo’s mission was set must be extremely dangerous, to the point where even he felt uneasy.
But it didn’t matter. Life and death were determined by fate—he would just do his best.
As long as they were together, it was enough.
Lin Mu reached out and lightly touched the hand resting on his knee. Fu Jingmo shifted his hand, palm up, and Lin Mu placed his own hand into his grasp.
His dry, warm hand enveloped Lin Mu’s, bringing a sense of reassurance.
The car soon arrived at Wunan Tower. Ye Xing and Chen Yu happened to be in the garden, with coffee and desserts laid out on the table. The sunlight was warm and pleasant.
Seeing Lin Mu and Fu Jingmo arrive, Ye Xing immediately bounced over to them.
“Mumu, you’re just in time! Lizhou just made some delicious cake and baked some cookies.”
Lin Mu smiled. “You don’t seem like you’re in the apocalypse at all, young master.”
“Tsk, what can I say? Wunan Tower may lack many things, but food is never one of them.”
Chen Yu sat on the chair, casting a sidelong glance at Fu Jingmo. His gaze swept back and forth between the two of them before he withdrew it, speaking lazily.
“What, you’re leaving?”
“Yeah.”
The group sat down, and Fu Jingmo unceremoniously rummaged through the pile of desserts, picking out a pink strawberry-flavored cupcake and placing it in front of Lin Mu.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk, hopeless romantic,” Ye Xing shook his head, overwhelmed by the stench of love in the air.
He then turned to Lin Mu. “Mumu, why don’t you stay in Shancheng? Is there really anywhere safer than Shancheng right now?”
“We still have some things to take care of; we should head back to Fengcheng.”
“What could be so important? Fengcheng is so far away, and it might not even be better than Shancheng,” Ye Xing said dismissively. He really liked Lin Mu, and it would be so much better if they could stay here.
“It’s fine; it’s not like we won’t have the chance to meet again in the future.”
The young man turned away, his eyes slightly red.
The zombie python in the river alone had almost killed Lin Mu, and who knew how many more terrifying things were out there.
While pouting, Ye Xing ran into Chen Yu’s arms and buried his face in his chest.
Fu Jingmo, oblivious to the sentiment, kicked the table leg impatiently. “Stop dragging it out. If you’re worried we’ll die too quickly, just give us more weapons and supplies.”
…
The slightly somber atmosphere was instantly dispersed by his blunt words.
Ye Xing lifted his head and glared fiercely at Fu Jingmo.
“Mumu, how can you like such a boring man?”
Despite his words, Fu Jingmo still followed Chen Yu to the armory to pick out supplies.
Lin Mu and Ye Xing continued being idle, eating cake.
As if remembering something, Lin Mu turned his head toward the young man. “Xingxing, did Chen Yu say your heart disease can’t be cured on its own? Is that true?”
“…”
Ye Xing swallowed the cake in his mouth and leaned closer to Lin Mu. “Shh, it’s fake. This is what I call a little love tactic.”
Lin Mu chuckled and patted his head. “Clever beyond your years.”
“But, Mumu, you need to learn a bit more. Don’t let that big ice block bully you.”
Thinking back to Fu Jingmo’s show-off behavior that morning, which didn’t match the term “big ice block” at all, a trace of amusement flickered in Lin Mu’s eyes.
He leaned closer to Ye Xing’s ear and whispered just as softly, “Don’t worry, he’s just a paper tiger.”
The two of them curved their brows and eyes, secretly laughing together.
