Chapter 28 Weird Village
Inside the protective net, there were few zombies. Fu Jingmo stepped on the accelerator, and the car headed towards the stadium.
It was almost 11 o’clock, and the military had evacuated for less than an hour.
On the way, traces of the military cleanup could be seen. Zombies shot by firepower lay dead along the road, emitting a strong foul smell. There were also many craters on the asphalt road caused by ammunition explosions.
In the distance, faint gunshots could be heard. Fu Jingmo accelerated the car, speeding towards the source.
Buildings rapidly receded from the car window. This was a civilization society that humans had built over thousands of years.
However, in just a few days, all that remained were ruins. Collapsed houses, broken roads, and dirty streets were everywhere.
The entire city was filled with the stench of decay, with not a single living person in sight, only numerous zombies wandering around.
In the face of a massive disaster, humanity seemed helpless.
Lin Mu withdrew his gaze, focusing on the road ahead, paying attention to the situation.
They set out in time, and the military chose a remote route. There were few zombies along the way, and whenever they encountered a small wave, Fu Jingmo would open the car window and use his supernatural abilities to clear them.
Lin Mu couldn’t wait to try the vine whip and also helped in clearing the zombies.
With the car window half open, the vine whip wrapped around a zombie’s head. With a pull, blood splattered, and the head was cut in half.
This vine whip seemed to have a connection with Lin Mu’s thoughts. Wherever he wanted to kill a zombie, it effortlessly swung out.
But the force was not light at all; you could even hear the sound of tearing through the air.
It could extend more than ten meters, and in Lin Mu’s understanding, whips were mostly used for lashing.
However, this vine whip’s method of killing zombies was exceptionally brutal. It either tightly strangled the zombie, separating its head and body, or directly stabbed into the zombie’s head, creating a bloody hole.
The advantage, though, was that it was a fatal blow, and the zombie would die instantly.
Lin Mu didn’t feel much, after all, having supernatural abilities was already good enough for him. As for the specific form, he didn’t ask for much.
It was He Ze at the back who, looking at Fu Jingmo’s black crystal and then at Lin Mu’s vine whip, had a look of a proud father with tears in his eyes.
“Damn, you guys are too amazing! Sob, sob, sob. Indeed, our Mumu has the best performance in the whole neighborhood!”
Upon hearing this, Fu Jingmo turned his head to look at Lin Mu. “Best performance, huh? How many points did you score?”
“…,” Lin Mu thought to himself, please don’t join in the booing!
After clearing the zombies, the whip would always shake off the meat residue, Lin Mu would shake the two leaves, and the whip would neatly retract into Lin Mu’s hands.
This scene seemed a bit eerie. Lin Mu had seen the scorpions of the Red Scorpion before. Those scorpions would climb back into the Red Scorpion’s body after use, obedient and without any anthropomorphic posture.
He had discussed his mutation with Fu Jingmo before; it wasn’t a simple biological fusion.
But after actually using it, Lin Mu had a new understanding of it.
Perhaps this tree was an independent life form, residing within him.
Although it couldn’t be determined why it chose him or what its purpose was.
But at least, in this apocalypse, it would be Lin Mu’s reliance.
It didn’t take long to get out of the city. The junction on the outskirts of the city was still full of cars.
They didn’t rush to leave, planning to find some supplies.
The three of them got off the car and found bottles and jars, from large water tanks to small mineral water bottles, they collected them all.
They extracted gasoline from abandoned vehicles. If they wanted to have a car to ride in all the time, they had to replenish gasoline as much as possible.
These cars had already been scavenged by others. It took a lot of effort for the three of them to collect fifty or sixty liters, which was satisfying enough. They put the gasoline in the trunk and took a short rest.
The three’s ultimate goal was Fengcheng City. In peacetime, from Yichang City to Fengcheng, it was over 1300 kilometers. By plane, it took two hours, and by high-speed train, it took six hours.
And now, they didn’t know how long it would take on the road, or how many cities infested with zombies they would have to pass through.
Fu Jingmo didn’t mention the location of his mission, perhaps it was in one of the northern cities. Lin Mu didn’t ask either; everyone had their own secrets. Fu Jingmo’s identity meant that his mission was also confidential.
Maybe one day, when he became a trusted partner of Fu Jingmo, he would be told personally.
After the military evacuation team left the city, they turned south, but their next destination was Wushi City.
Wushi City was north of Yichang City, navigation couldn’t be used, they could only rely on the maps and various road signs they found on the road to determine the direction.
The highway was crowded with cars, and they couldn’t drive through. The three decided to find some remote small roads and take a detour.
Small roads had their advantages. Away from Yichang City, there were almost no zombies in sight, and the journey went relatively smooth.
——
When the sky was about to darken, some fields with crops appeared below the road.
Amidst the summer day, the fields below still displayed frames of crops such as cucumbers and bitter melons. In the distance, a pond with lotus roots could even be seen.
However, most of the vegetables and fruits were damaged, fell crookedly on the ground. Perhaps due to recent heavy rains or the villagers turning into zombies.
Alongside the highway were one or two adobe houses. Behind the houses, dense vegetation and vines thrived. Growing by the roadside, the originally green leaves were now covered in a thick layer of dust.
As evening approached, the road was deserted, devoid of the usual sounds of insects and frogs. At this time, with the impending darkness, everything took on a dim color, adding a touch of eerie atmosphere.
At this moment, Lin Mu was driving, while He Ze slept soundly in the back seat, and Fu Jingmo closed his eyes for a brief rest.
Lin Mu cautiously reduced the speed of the car. There should be a village ahead, but he wasn’t sure about the situation. If it resembled the town at Zhang Qiang’s home, he would accelerate and rush over.
Sensing the decrease in speed, Fu Jingmo opened his eyes and glanced around. In a deep voice, he asked, “Is there a village ahead?”
Lin Mu nodded, and looked at Fu Jingmo. His eyes were clear, indicating that he probably hadn’t really fallen asleep.
“There should be a village. Look at the fields below; they’ve planted a lot of vegetables. I’ll slow down, and let’s assess the situation first.”
Fu Jingmo nodded, his gaze becoming serious. His raised finger tapped the edge of the car window one after another.
