Chapter 60: Lin Mu in Danger
Lin Mu grabbed the edge of the window with both hands, bent his waist, and flipped onto the roof of the bus.
Such a high-difficulty maneuver would have been unthinkable two months ago, but now, Xiao Yuan in his body has enhanced his abilities in all aspects, allowing him to do it with ease.
Lin Mu steadied himself on the roof, with vines in hand, and looked up at the three people above. Despite someone risking their life to save them, they were still clinging to the steel frame.
One young man had climbed down a bit, but the woman refused to descend. She clung tightly to the frame, trembling all over, tears streaming down her face, and her expression full of terror. “No, there are too many zombies down there. I don’t want to go down.”
“You have one minute. If you don’t come down, we will leave.”
Lin Mu’s voice was cold, even showing a bit of impatience.
He turned and walked towards the rear of the bus in a few strides. With a fierce motion, he swung the vines, the snapping sounds followed in quick succession, and blood splattered. A group of zombies at the back fell immediately.
Since he couldn’t kill them all in time, rendering them immobile was just as effective.
The young man saw Lin Mu’s prowess and, realizing his capability, gritted his teeth and continued climbing down.
“I’m leaving. Staying up there is waiting to die. If you don’t come, suit yourself.”
The other man looked at the woman clinging to the frame—it was his girlfriend. They had barely managed to escape to this point, and he also wanted to leave.
On the steel frame, he was out of strength and would eventually fall into the horde of zombies below.
In the civilized era, they had sworn eternal love, promising never to leave each other. But now, he realized he was truly afraid of death. Feeling guilty, he said to his girlfriend, “I’m leaving too. Hurry up and follow.”
The girl looked at her boyfriend in disbelief, her tears flowing even more fiercely, nearly breaking down.
The man gritted his teeth and continued to climb down, his body stiff and shaking after being motionless for two days. Finally, he stepped onto the roof of the bus.
The two men huddled in the middle of the roof, trembling as they looked at the bridge.
The girl seemed to regret it, shakily trying to climb down, but more and more zombies were gathering.
“Mumu, we have to go!”
He Ze’s voice came from below. Seeing the zombies gradually surrounding the front of the bus, He Ze was growing increasingly anxious.
The banging on the rear of the bus grew more intense, and occasional screams echoed from inside the bus.
Lin Mu tightened his grip on the vines, walked forward a few steps calmly, and with a flick of his wrist, sent the vines flying straight towards the girl on the steel frame.
In an instant, the vines wrapped around the girl’s body, and with a swift pull, amidst a scream, the girl was flung onto the bus roof. The motion was seamless. The girl was stunned, and only started crying again when her boyfriend hugged her.
“He Ze!! Go!”
He shouted fiercely, swinging the vines to clear a few zombies in front of the bus.
Then he crouched down to stabilize himself, his pale face covered in a fine layer of cold sweat. Despite the scorching sun, the rapid loss of strength made him feel waves of cold.
As the bus restarted, the sound of breaking glass echoed. Lin Mu had no way to get down now; both sides of the bus were swarming with zombies.
The strength-mutated person stood in front of the broken glass window with a machete, while two miners joined him in hacking at the zombies outside. They could only rely on themselves for survival.
The woman and Xiao Yu hid in the middle aisle of the bus.
With a roar, the bus crashed through the zombies in front, reversed for several meters, and then turned right through a gap where the railing had been broken.
As the bus approached, Li Chenggong frantically pinched and slapped his wife awake. She sat on the railing, staring blankly at the people on top of the bus.
It was these three people who had brought the zombies here, causing their son’s death. It was them!!
A look of crazed hatred appeared in her dull eyes, and she ground her teeth in fury.
The bus stopped at the steel frame on this side. Li Chenggong mumbled, “Don’t leave, wait for us, we’re coming down.”
He shakily climbed down, his chubby body moving awkwardly but quickly. The zombies that had been surrounding the other side either chased through the gap where they had come from or climbed over the middle barrier.
Lin Mu gritted his teeth and stood up, his lips trembling slightly. His chest heaved violently, with each breath irritating his fragile windpipe.
The bus swayed, having wasted too much time on the other side. Now, not only the zombies on the bridge but also those from the street were swarming towards them.
Li Chenggong stepped onto the bus roof, exhaling in relief, and reached out to pull his wife and daughter up.
“Go, quickly, the zombies are coming, the zombies are coming.”
Wiping the sweat from his forehead, his wife and daughter also climbed onto the bus roof.
Lin Mu looked at the zombies gathering in front of the bus, his jaw clenched tightly, and the vines in his hands suddenly lashed out, clearing a path on both sides.
In his mind, there was only one thought: hold on a bit longer, just a bit longer, and they could make it out.
The sound of breaking glass continued to echo. The bus had started, moved a few meters, and then abruptly stopped again. The engine roared desperately, but the bus didn’t budge, clearly stuck on something below.
Shen Rangchen’s control over the paper figures was also slowing down. The paper figures were covered in zombie blood, and although his paper figures didn’t get soaked like ordinary paper, over time, they became increasingly difficult to control.
He stopped worrying about the paper figures and turned his palm upwards, sending out a stack of talisman papers. Six of them flew out, each emitting a faint golden glow. He muttered a command, “Sha.”
The talisman papers flew through the broken window, sticking to the zombies’ foreheads, and with a bang, half their heads exploded.
Calmly, he threw out the talisman papers one by one, finally alleviating the pressure on the people inside the bus.
But this relief was only temporary; the zombies kept coming.
He Ze frantically turned the steering wheel, trying to back out from the stuck position, but the rear was also filled with zombies, leaving them trapped.
The vines were covered in blood and flesh, and Lin Mu felt like his wrist was about to give out. They had overestimated themselves, thinking they could save people.
For a moment, he couldn’t help but wonder if things would have been different if Fu Jingmo were here.
He looked ahead, his body swaying slightly, and a hint of confusion appeared on his face.
He Ze, sweating profusely, finally managed to move the bus a little, driving over whatever was underneath and making a bit of forward progress.
There were too many zombies; the bus was practically pushing against the massive horde.
The sudden change happened in an instant. Lin Mu, using the last of his strength, was still trying to clear the zombies in front.
Terrified screams erupted from behind him. When he turned around, he saw two women rushing towards him, clinging to each other.
From the moment Li Chenggong’s wife had climbed onto the roof, she had been glaring at the other woman. They all deserved to die. These people had caused her son’s death; they all should die!!!
She couldn’t do anything to the two men, but this woman—she could take her down, even if it meant dying together.
With this thought, a surge of inexplicable strength filled her tired and frail body, and she charged forward in a few steps.
They should all die, just like her son, torn apart by these monsters!!!!
The sudden burst of strength from the woman was significant, and no one had time to react. She grabbed the other woman and rushed towards the edge of the bus.
Lin Mu was crouched in front. In that instant, the two women crashed into him hard.
He stumbled, completely losing his balance…
