Chapter 81: It’s Too Hot! Getting Agitated!
The armored vehicle drew closer and closer, and Wen Tang also walked out from the gate.
The vehicle came to a roaring stop, and the top hatch was pushed open.
He Ze ran over in a small sprint and jumped onto the roof of the armored vehicle. “Brother Fu, Mumu, are you guys there?”
Fu Jingmo’s voice came from inside, “Help me with Lin Mu, be careful.”
Lin Mu was handed out through the top hatch, and with just one glance, He Ze was startled. “Damn, Mumu, are you still alive??”
The person with his eyes closed weakly and disdainfully uttered two words, “Not dead.”
“Woo, woo, woo, not dead, not dead.”
He Ze carefully picked him up, and Fu Jingmo then jumped out of the top hatch. He stood tall, looking down, and swept his gaze around the area.
It was a battlefield filled with smoke and the stench of rotting zombies. The entire safe zone seemed to be surrounded by zombie corpses. Exhausted and emotionally numb people pushed makeshift carts, dragging one corpse after another away.
“Major…”
Wen Tang’s voice came from below, and Fu Jingmo glanced at him.
“That’s it, only the two of us are left.”
Wen Tang understood his meaning, and the usually resilient and composed base manager’s eyes turned red.
Fu Jingmo jumped down from the armored vehicle, his legs together, standing tall and straight. He saluted sharply in the direction of the rising sun. Behind him, Wen Tang also stood at attention and saluted.
“Everything you’ve done will be remembered by the world, and everything you wanted to accomplish, I will finish for you.”
He took a deep breath, lowered his hand, and walked towards the armored vehicle.
“I’ll carry him.”
Lin Mu weakly leaned against He Ze’s chest, struggling to speak, “If you’re my bro, don’t hand me over to him, he reeks…”
Cough “Okay, okay.”
He Ze carried Lin Mu on his own and started walking towards the safe zone.
Fu Jingmo silently withdrew his hand and, in disbelief, sniffed his own body.
He hadn’t noticed it before, but as the wind blew, it really did…
“…Ugh.”
Wen Tang looked at him as if he were an idiot, but still stepped forward to say, “Major, thank you. The higher-ups have already issued an order. During your time in the safe zone, everything is under your command.”
Fu Jingmo raised his eyebrow. Hmph, he outranked everyone here; of course, it would be his decision. No need for formalities.
He lifted his leg and followed after He Ze. Lin Mu had gradually adjusted to the pain on his back, listening to He Ze ramble on about last night’s battle, looking utterly pained.
It seemed like letting He Ze carry him wasn’t such a wise choice after all—too noisy, couldn’t even take a nap.
The rest of the matters were not their concern. The group returned directly to their small courtyard.
Lin Mu’s injuries were severe. If not for Xiao Yuan, he wouldn’t even be conscious at this moment.
As soon as they put Lin Mu down in the room, Yu Hong arrived with Ji Huaizhi.
Ji Huaizhi carried a medical kit up the stairs, and as he passed by Fu Jingmo, he gagged in disgust.
…
When he sat down by the bedside, he gagged again, this time at Lin Mu.
…
“Sorry, but the two of you… really reek.”
Ji Huaizhi quietly took a mask out of the medical kit and put it on. He Ze raised his hand, asking for one as well, and put it on.
“Watch him.”
Fu Jingmo coldly tossed out the command, grabbed two pieces of clothing, and headed into the bathroom.
“Such a tightwad, let him be,” Ji Huaizhi said casually, not paying much attention, as he picked up some alcohol wipes and tweezers.
He Ze obediently watched from the side. Everyone still remembered that incident with the slices, so they definitely couldn’t let Ji Huaizhi cut Lin Mu up.
Ji Huaizhi used tweezers to hold the alcohol-soaked cotton and began cleaning Lin Mu’s wounds. Even though his special ability could help him recover, it would take time, and the impurities in the wound had to be thoroughly cleaned.
The wound was large, bloody, and messy, filled with debris like gravel, sand, and wood splinters—filthy and tragic.
While Ji Huaizhi worked, he was unusually serious. He carefully picked out the impurities and then disinfected the area with the alcohol cotton.
As soon as the alcohol touched the wound, the searing pain caused Lin Mu’s whole body to tremble. Cold sweat broke out on his forehead, and he gripped the bedsheet tightly, clenching his teeth to suppress the urge to scream.
“Ugh…”
“You’ll have to bear with it. This is quite troublesome.”
“Mm… uh.”
The suppressed groans of pain echoed through the room. Even He Ze couldn’t bear to watch, his brows furrowing tightly. If it weren’t for the apocalypse, when would they have ever encountered bullets and bombs, let alone getting injured like this?
Sigh.
The bathroom door opened as Fu Jingmo stepped out, having taken a quick five-minute combat shower.
“Put down the medical kit. I’ll handle it.”
After glancing at Lin Mu, who was drenched in cold sweat, Fu Jingmo reached over and lifted Ji Huaizhi out of the way.
“Out, out, out. Everyone get out.”
With a few swift kicks, he booted He Ze and Yu Hong out, coldly driving them away without a second thought, and then sat down in Ji Huaizhi’s spot.
Lin Mu, having caught his breath, looked at Fu Jingmo. “Can you even do this? Dr. Ji was doing pretty well…”
“Well, my foot! His hands are clumsy as hell. Brother Fu’s got this—you just go ahead and sleep.”
Fu Jingmo’s temple twitched, and he ruffled his dripping hair, shaking his head to dry it off before picking up the tweezers.
Lin Mu was indeed exhausted. If it weren’t for the pain, he would have already fallen asleep. Strangely enough, when Fu Jingmo took over, his tense nerves relaxed a little.
“Just wake me up when you’re done so I can take a bath…” His voice grew softer as he slowly closed his eyes.
“Tch, Brother Fu isn’t like you. After a bath, you still let me touch you, huh? Complaining about the smell, being all picky and delicate.”
Thinking back to the sight of Lin Mu climbing onto the giant zombie, Fu Jingmo changed his mind.
“Hmm, not delicate.”
He carefully picked out the debris from Lin Mu’s wound, his head lowered, and his deep, focused gaze was more serious than ever before. The hands that usually wielded guns and swords now moved with utmost caution.
After cleaning the wound, he disinfected it and then pulled a dagger from his boot. With two swift motions, he cut away the tattered clothing hanging from Lin Mu’s chest and tossed it to the ground.
Lin Mu clearly smelled just as bad, but Fu Jingmo didn’t mind in the slightest. Tsk, see, your brother really treats you well.
Lin Mu’s pants were also torn off, and Fu Jingmo stood up, went to the bathroom, and brought back a basin of water and a towel.
After wringing the towel dry, he wiped away the sweat from Lin Mu’s face. The morning sunlight streamed through the window, casting a soft glow into the room.
The dirt on Lin Mu’s face was wiped clean, revealing his delicate and refined features once more. Fu Jingmo suddenly remembered that moment in the truck yesterday.
He had wanted to clean Lin Mu up, wanted to take a good look at his face again. When their foreheads had touched, for a brief second, he had thought…
Shaking his head, he continued carefully wiping Lin Mu’s body. He moved down from the neck, avoiding the back which was too injured to touch, and focused on the waist. It’s so thin.
Then… he reached the full, firm sides. Well, there’s some meat here. Moving further down, to that straight, beautiful pink area… Fu Jingmo’s hand trembled.
Wow, damn, his nose itched terribly, so he raised the back of his hand and wiped it!
Damn it, the heat was unbearable, and now he was even getting agitated.
“Damn… maybe I really need to get myself a girlfriend.”
After stuffing two wads of tissue into his nose, Fu Jingmo quickened his pace. Since Lin Mu’s back couldn’t be covered with a blanket, he tossed one of his own jackets over Lin Mu’s waist.
…
He hurried downstairs, practically escaping. Downstairs, He Ze was sprawled on the sofa, resting, while Shen Rangchen had just finished his shower and was stepping out of his room.
Fu Jingmo glanced over and walked out.
“Hey, Brother Fu, where are you going? Why are you having a nosebleed? Are you okay?!”
He Ze’s shouting faded into the distance as Fu Jingmo tossed away the tissue from his nose and slowly walked toward the outskirts of the safe zone.
On the concrete wall, Wen Tang was still standing there, watching the people outside clearing the area.
“Come down.”
Wen Tang turned his head when he saw Fu Jingmo, and then jumped down from the wall.
“Major.”
“How are the casualties?”
Wen Tang furrowed his brows and replied in a deep voice, “Including the eight soldiers who left with you, a total of 16 have been sacrificed, along with 9 ability users. We’re left with less than a third of our ammunition.”
After giving a brief report of the situation, Fu Jingmo looked at the people still clearing the battlefield. With so little ammunition left, this safe zone wouldn’t be able to withstand another attack like that.
If it hadn’t been for Bai Ying withholding the shipment of ammunition that was supposed to be sent here, last night’s battle wouldn’t have been so difficult.
“Tell me about Bai Ying.”
“Yes… please wait a moment.”
After assigning tasks to the guards at the gate, Wen Tang led Fu Jingmo toward the monitoring hall.
