When Lin You woke up, it was already near evening.
Looking at the orange-red sunset light reflecting in the sky, Lin You couldn’t help but rub her eyes.
It was really the same as before.
In the past, every weekend when she took a nap at home, the first thing she saw when she opened her eyes was the red light outside the window.
The evenings in Ancheng were always beautiful.
When walking in the sunset, you could see two rows of towering trees next to the old residential buildings, and hear the chirping of birds perched on the branches.
Lin You slipped on her slippers, took a moment to wake up, and got out of bed.
She walked to the window and looked down.
There were noticeably more pedestrians on the road today.
The weather was good, so people were more willing to go outside.
Lin You stood by the window, stretched, then turned around, picked up her phone, and gave her parents, who were in the west, a regular peace-of-mind call.
Fortunately, they were in the west, where the biological mutations hadn’t occurred yet, so it was much safer than the eastern region.
The eastern region is densely populated, making it easier for the virus to spread between humans and between animals and humans.
Zombies also appeared here first.
After hanging up the phone, Lin You looked at her phone, where a news notification popped up.
The notification said that Ancheng had opened a new transportation route, bringing daily necessities and food into the city from other places.
To ensure safety, the security forces of almost all the guards in Ancheng were deployed on both sides of the route to prevent zombies from flowing into the city from the neighboring areas.
This was a risky move, but based on Ancheng’s actual material reserves, even if the government’s reserve warehouse supplies were fully distributed to the citizens, they couldn’t last more than a few months.
So, while the zombies had not yet launched a large-scale attack, the authorities decided to take a risk and bring in more goods.
This was, of course, good news. If things went smoothly, the material shortage in Ancheng would soon be alleviated.
However, Lin You couldn’t help but feel anxious.
The guard team needed to strictly control the route. If a single mutated creature slipped through, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Thinking of this, Lin You couldn’t help but feel frustrated.
Although the freezer in the breakfast shop could produce a large amount of food, her abilities were limited. The food she moved out every day wasn’t enough to feed all the citizens of Ancheng.
What she could do was just provide a little bit of help in the snow.
Moreover, this help was so small, it might not warm many people.
If only she could transport more food…
Lin You rested her chin on her hand, thinking back and forth, but she couldn’t find any good solutions.
But then she thought of something: if these ingredients could indeed only appear through her touch, then making breakfast would actually become a waste of time.
If she made breakfast, she couldn’t move more food.
If she moved more food, breakfast would be delayed.
Compared to breakfast, food supply was more urgent.
So, she needed a helper.
Lin You scratched her messy hair and walked to the living room, sitting on the sofa.
Just as she thought of someone, Shang Zhisheng’s phone call came.
When she pressed the answer button, Lin You felt a little nervous.
She swallowed and picked up the phone.
Shang Zhisheng’s clear voice came from the phone: “I’m at the entrance of your breakfast shop, come down for a moment.”
“Huh?” Lin You jumped up from the sofa, “Okay, wait for me, I’ll be right down!”
She quickly put on a thin coat and went downstairs.
When she got downstairs, she saw Shang Zhisheng leading a team of people, standing at the door of the breakfast shop.
She was a little stunned: “This is…”
Shang Zhisheng introduced her: “These are people from the Fifth Division who coordinate the wartime situation in this area, as well as people from our food and material reserve center. These are just a few of them. You can get to know them first.”
Lin You stood still, a bit awkward, and nodded: “Hello.”
Shang Zhisheng said, “I came this time to verify whether the freezer and baskets can only produce food when you touch them. I hope you don’t mind that I brought over a dozen people to help.”
Lin You shook her head: “I don’t mind.”
She turned around, took out the key, and opened the door to the breakfast shop, inviting them in.
Shang Zhisheng stepped back and let the people behind him walk ahead:
“You guys try to see if you can take out food from inside the freezer, and if the freezer can replenish the food again.”
A tall, handsome man smiled and said: “Brother Shang, let me try first.”
He walked up to the freezer, looking around, with an expression of disbelief.
It looked no different from a normal freezer, could it really keep producing food?
After steadying himself, he opened the freezer door.
The inside was packed full of ingredients, and at a glance, there was a wide variety.
This made him feel a bit unusual.
Everyone knew the situation in Ancheng, so how could there be so many fresh ingredients here?
Moreover, just the dozen or so different types of beans around the freezer seemed very strange.
He didn’t often go into the kitchen and couldn’t name all the beans.
But when he was busy, he’d ordered food from outside, so he’d seen quite a few —
Yet the beans in front of him, some of which he had never even seen before.
For example, some beans were curved like crescents, with winding patterns on top.
He stopped his finger and asked Lin You: “Excuse me, what kind of bean is this?”
Lin You shook her head: “I don’t know either.”
Shang Zhisheng heard this, leaned over, took a look, and said: “This is a flower bean!”
Lin You corrected him: “The pattern is similar, but the shape of the flower bean is different, it’s flat and round.”
“Flat and round? Oh, it seems so,” Shang Zhisheng said, then pulled his head back.
The tall man teased him: “Brother Shang, your life experience is just like mine, not very rich.”
Shang Zhisheng cleared his throat: “Qi Kai, take your vegetables!”
Qi Kai quickly stopped laughing and took a broccoli out of the freezer.
“Like this… is this it? Just take it out, and then what? Do I need to blow on it, or say some kind of incantation?” Qi Kai raised the broccoli, looking a little confused.
The serious look on his face made Lin You almost laugh.
She quickly explained: “No need to do anything else, just wait.”
“Okay, I’ll wait.”
Qi Kai stood in front of the freezer door, waiting and waiting, and five minutes passed, but the freezer didn’t produce another broccoli.
He felt a little discouraged and lowered his head:
“I’ve already… failed? Ahem, looks like I don’t have the potential to cultivate immortality!”
Shang Zhisheng called out from afar, “Cultivate what immortality, you cultivate immortality?”
Then he didn’t forget to help his people out, saying to Lin You, “Don’t mind it, the people I brought are usually quite capable, just a little bit silly.”
Lin You actually felt that the atmosphere between them was quite harmonious.
She originally thought that the people from the government would be more serious, but unexpectedly, their personalities were quite interesting.
So, she smiled and said, “I don’t mind.”
After Qi Kai failed, the next person stepped forward.
But after trying one by one, the freezer still didn’t automatically replenish the ingredients.
Shang Zhisheng sighed, “Your freezer has turned into a spirit… It seems like it’s not very welcoming towards us. Lin You, why don’t you give it a try?”
Lin You reached into the freezer and scooped out a handful of beans.
“Whoosh—”
A sound of beans spilling out of the freezer echoed.
Through the transparent glass of the freezer, everyone present saw the ingredients automatically replenishing.
They widened their eyes, their mouths not closing for a long time.
It was truly shocking.
They couldn’t imagine that something like this was actually happening in the 21st century.
Qi Kai couldn’t help but speak up:
“Miss, you’ve got good talent. If you practice diligently, you’ll definitely ascend and become an immortal! When you’re ranked among the immortals, give me an opportunity, okay?”
Lin You: “……”
Shang Zhisheng walked forward and closed the freezer door.
It seemed exactly as expected. This freezer could only be activated by Lin You to trigger the supernatural ability.
He then looked at Lin You and said seriously:
“I’ve reported to the leaders today and discussed it in a meeting. Now, we’ve tested our previous assumptions and confirmed that only you can control these freezers and baskets. So, this official first, oh, probably the only, food supply point is set. The documents should be issued tomorrow, and I will help you with the planning according to the process. I’ll also help you get online as soon as possible. According to regulations, we will match you with several people from the Fifth Division to help maintain order in the food distribution. Hey! Qi Kai!”
Qi Kai: “Here!”
Shang Zhisheng: “Your team leader handed you over to me, and I’m handing you over to Lin You. No problem, right?”
Qi Kai: “No problem, I’ll guarantee the task is completed! I’m willing to do my best for the immortal!”
