By the time Lin You got home, it was already evening.
She placed the daily necessities she had brought back from the supermarket at home, did not stay long, and turned to go downstairs to the breakfast shop.
Since she would close the shop tomorrow, tonight she had to retrieve all the food ingredients from the breakfast shop.
It was time to truly start living a stockpiling lifestyle.
Lin You entered the kitchen and first moved out several large bags of rice, flour, grains, and oil, taking all the opened and unopened seasonings back home as well.
Then she needed to take out the fresh meat stored in the large freezers.
Normally, the fresh meat bought from the vegetable wholesale market would fill an entire freezer. But today, the meat from the wholesale market only filled one section.
Even if she kept it at home for herself, this amount of meat would not last very long.
Lin You could not help but hope that more fresh meat could be transported in from other areas.
When the wholesale market reopened, she would need to stockpile more at home.
As someone who could not live without meat, she found it hard to imagine days without it.
However, this little bit of meat could be consumed in just one barbecue or hot pot meal, so she had to ration it carefully.
Lin You was already calculating in her mind how to use the fresh meat reasonably.
At the very least, foods like stuffed buns and dumplings that used a lot of meat filling should be eaten less.
Maybe she could just fry a few slices of meat each meal or use minced meat to season the dishes, which would be more economical.
Just thinking about this made Lin You feel a bit pitiful.
She let out a long sigh, grabbed the meat, and headed straight out of the kitchen.
The final batch was the various vegetables.
Lin You took out all the leafy greens stored in the large freezers, then brought up all the radishes, potatoes, cabbages, and other long-lasting vegetables from the baskets.
Although it was just the distance between upstairs and downstairs, her home was on the fifth floor.
After running up and down several times, Lin You was so exhausted that she could hardly straighten her back.
On her last trip downstairs, Lin You decided to check the condition of the breakfast shop.
She needed to move out all the ingredients, take away anything useful for home use, and carefully check the water, electricity, and gas to ensure they were all turned off.
After tidying up everything, Lin You looked at the empty kitchen and felt a surge of complicated emotions.
Finally, she went to check all the faucets.
After turning on and checking the faucets connected to tap water, she found nothing unusual.
Then she went to check the purified water faucet and encountered something strange.
When she turned it on, there was no expected flow of purified water.
Instead, a thick white liquid flowed out of the pipe.
Lin You was stunned for a moment, then quickly turned off the faucet and checked the water valve, which was already tightly shut.
Something bizarre happened.
The valve was indeed in the closed state.
Logically, purified water should not be able to flow out.
Because purified water was produced by filtering tap water through a device in the pipe.
With the valve shut, tap water was completely cut off.
So where did the purified water come from?
Moreover, it was unlikely that the valve had suddenly broken.
After all, she had closed it when she shut the shop yesterday and confirmed that there was no water leakage.
But now what was happening?
Even if the faucet valve had somehow broken, the liquid flowing out should have been clear purified water, not this milky white liquid.
Feeling bewildered, Lin You casually turned on the tap water faucet.
She found that normal water suddenly flowed out.
The water looked normal with no discoloration.
It should indeed be tap water.
This meant that both faucets were now flowing liquid even though the water source valve was closed.
Lin You calmed herself and once again opened the purified water faucet.
The milky white substance looked very familiar. When she leaned closer, a faint milky aroma wafted up.
Could it be fresh milk?
Since all her bowls and utensils had already been moved upstairs, Lin You had no choice but to get closer.
She dipped her finger into the liquid and brought it to her nose.
It really smelled like fresh milk.
Lin You was completely stunned.
She had imagined countless possibilities but could not understand why fresh milk was flowing from the purified water faucet.
It simply made no sense.
Lin You stood frozen in front of the sink.
When she finally came to her senses and was about to leave, she caught a glimpse of something seemingly stored in the freezer out of the corner of her eye.
Wait a minute, was she seeing things?
Muttering silently to herself, Lin You stepped forward.
Sure enough, besides the two originally-used large freezers now stuffed with meat and vegetables, the remaining two backup freezers, which were usually unused, were also filled with food supplies.
Lin You could not help but have her pupils shake in shock.
When she came in earlier, she had clearly checked the freezers and there was nothing inside.
How could so much food suddenly be stuffed inside in an instant.
Moreover, there were even some precious ingredients that Lin You usually would not buy, such as premium matsutake mushrooms and white truffles. As for other vegetables, they were all present.
Did something supernatural happen?
Lin You lowered her head and lifted the lid of the basket.
She discovered that the basket was crammed full of fresh carrots.
The carrots were wrapped with fresh soil.
Lin You squatted down and picked up a slender carrot, then placed it under the faucet to wash it.
After washing, she used force with both hands and snapped the carrot in half.
The cross-section of the carrot had clear textures, with colors ranging from red to tender yellow, the layers distinct.
It looked like the quality was pretty good.
But how could fresh fruits and vegetables suddenly appear in her store?
What was even stranger was that just as Lin You was holding that carrot and lowered her eyes to look, she saw that in the spot that had just been emptied, a new carrot had appeared.
…This basket could automatically restock itself.
Such a high-end feature.
Lin You stood there in place and spent a long time accepting everything in front of her.
But just accepting it was far from enough, she also needed to know where these things came from, otherwise she would never be at ease.
After thinking for a while, Lin You still chose to close the back kitchen door and leave the breakfast shop.
Returning home, she spent a lot of time curling up on the sofa, turning on her phone and carefully searching.
But no matter what keywords she used, she could not find any related information. In other words, this strange phenomenon had never happened to anyone else.
Lin You fell into great confusion.
What should she do now?
The breakfast shop now had abundant food supplies and theoretically could continue to operate normally.
However, where exactly did these food supplies come from? Were they safe enough?
And after using them up, would they still appear again?
But on second thought, not continuing to open the shop did not seem right either.
If she just let these foods rot in the shop, it would be too much of a waste when resources were so scarce.
Moreover, for some people who truly needed it, these foods were far more than just a breakfast.
Right now, even though Ancheng City had not yet been invaded by zombies, the shortage of food supplies was already very severe. Starting from tomorrow, there might be many people who could not get food in time and would face the risk of starvation.
After weighing the pros and cons repeatedly, Lin You finally decided to keep the breakfast shop open.
In such a grim situation, it was necessary to leave something for people.
An extra shop on the street meant an extra hope for people to survive and preserve their strength.
As for the issue of food safety, she decided to find a professional agency to test it tomorrow.
After all, for Lin You herself, the food at home was also not much, and after eating it all, she would also face the risk of running out of food.
If the food in the breakfast shop could be used for her own needs, then her livelihood would also be secured in the future.
Thinking this way, she suddenly felt a burst of motivation, and the discouragement she had from closing the breakfast shop earlier was swept away.
Since she decided to do it, tomorrow not only would the breakfast shop open normally, but it would also respond to the government’s call and stay open as long as conditions permitted.
As long as the supplies were not empty, the shop would not fall.
Originally, from frequently moving heavy items today, Lin You’s body was already somewhat exhausted.
But as soon as she thought of the breakfast shop reopening, she immediately stood up, threw away her phone, and once again ran downstairs.
The sky was as dark as thick ink.
She did not know whether it was an illusion, but even the streetlights on the roadside seemed unusually dim today.
People who had finished work gradually returned home. Although they had shed the fatigue of the day, there was no longer the usual spirit in their eyes.
Anxious emotions were filled by a huge emptiness, and the whole city became quiet.
Lin You opened the door of the breakfast shop. Just as she was about to go in, she was suddenly called by a man behind her.
The man looked like he had just gotten off work, his face carrying some exhaustion.
Because the weather had suddenly turned cold, he had changed into a camel-colored autumn coat and was even wrapped in a woolen scarf.
However, what made people feel cold was not just the weather, but also the immense uncertainty about the future in their hearts.
At this moment, warmth became something everyone longed for.
Strangely enough, the man used to always prepare bread and milk, eating some cold food in a hurry without heating it up before rushing to work.
But just now, when passing by the breakfast shop near home, he suddenly felt an impulse.
Thus, at the moment Lin You opened the store door, the man called out to her:
“Boss, will the breakfast shop open tomorrow?”
Lin You paused her steps and turned around to look at the man.
Seeing his nose tip reddened from the cold, she was somewhat moved.
Thus, she answered almost instinctively: “Yes, it will open as usual tomorrow.”
After saying this, thinking about the food supplies whose safety had not yet been verified, Lin You could not help but feel a little regret.
But very quickly, she made up her mind.
If it really did not work out, she would bring back the vegetables she had stored at home for herself.
Those food supplies were bought from the wholesale market and their safety could be absolutely guaranteed.
