Chapter 115: Something Was Fishy
For a moment, Bai Youwei had no idea what to do.
She knew that if she moved too much, she would wake Zhao Ran.
If she found herself lying in his arms at that moment, she would want to bury herself in a hole from the embarrassment.
In order to avoid such an awkward situation, Bai Youwei could only stay quiet.
When Zhao Ran fell deeply asleep and his body relaxed, she planned to seize the chance to leave.
However, while Bai Youwei waited, drowsiness crept over her without her noticing, and in the end she fell asleep as well.
Early the next morning.
Jiang Yubing got up early.
After she washed up, she glanced at Shen Qingxuan on the bed, saw that he still slept, and then walked out of the room.
When she reached the living room, she noticed the breakfast placed on the coffee table.
Without even thinking, Jiang Yubing knew Lin Yue bought it, since everyone else was still asleep.
Yet she did not intend to eat it; instead, she walked toward the kitchen, preparing to make breakfast.
Jiang Yubing did not want to bother with all this, but the idiot husband liked to eat the breakfast she cooked.
She busied herself in the kitchen, and after an unknown length of time the steamed buns finally finished.
Why steamed buns? Because that was the only thing she knew how to make.
Jiang Yubing returned to the room and gently shook the still-sleeping Shen Qingxuan.
At the same time she called gently, “Husband, get up and eat breakfast.”
Shen Qingxuan responded vaguely, rubbed his eyes with both hands, and then slowly got up to wash.
After he finished washing, the two of them headed toward the living room together.
As they passed the room where Bai Youwei and Zhao Ran slept, Jiang Yubing casually called out, “Weiwei, get up and eat breakfast.”
After she called, she remembered that Bai Youwei liked to sleep in every morning, so she did not press further and left with Shen Qingxuan.
In his sleep, Zhao Ran was drowsily awakened by the shout.
As his consciousness gradually returned, he felt that his head throbbed badly.
Moreover, his hand was weighed down by something heavy and unmoving.
He tried several times but could not pull it back.
Just as Zhao Ran opened his eyes, intending to find out what was happening, he froze.
His gaze was instantly drawn to the person lying in his arms.
“Weiwei?”
Zhao Ran called out in disbelief.
Because of his surprise, his voice rose unconsciously, and it woke Bai Youwei at once.
“Hm?”
Bai Youwei first let out a soft moan, as if she had not fully awakened from her dream.
After a moment, she slowly opened her eyes.
In an instant, their eyes met.
Bai Youwei’s small face flushed red in a flash, and she wished she could disappear into the floor.
Zhao Ran looked at the blushing Bai Youwei in his arms and suddenly lost his confidence.
He blacked out from drinking last night, and his memories remained fragmented.
So he could not recall what actually happened.
Zhao Ran broke the silence first and asked cautiously, “Weiwei, I didn’t do anything last night, did I?”
Facing his question, Bai Youwei had no idea how to answer.
She could only turn her face away in panic, trying to escape Zhao Ran’s gaze.
When she thought of what happened last night, Bai Youwei felt endless regret.
It would have been better just to sleep; she had to tease him, and ended up being pulled into his arms.
Originally she planned to slip away after Zhao Ran relaxed, but unexpectedly she slept straight through till dawn.
Seeing Bai Youwei’s unusual reaction, Zhao Ran felt his heart sink.
From what he knew about Bai Youwei, if nothing happened last night, with her personality she would be pointing at him aggressively right now and bombarding him with questions.
Those questions would probably run along the lines of, “I know you are scheming against me.”
…“I don’t like you, so don’t even think about it,” and so on.
But Bai Youwei’s reaction right now was far too unusual, which made Zhao Ran feel uneasy.
He wondered whether he really did something to wrong her.
The only scenarios Zhao Ran imagined involved him drunkenly touching Bai Youwei.
Anything deeper than that was naturally impossible.
If he truly did that, even a blackout could not make him forget everything.
Thinking of this, Zhao Ran looked at Bai Youwei very seriously and said in a firm tone, “Weiwei, rest assured, I will take responsibility for you.”
“Huh?”
Bai Youwei clearly froze.
Why did he suddenly say he would take responsibility?
Could it be that he misunderstood and thought something improper happened?
“Um… actually.”
Bai Youwei subconsciously wanted to explain.
But when the words reached her lips, they stuck there as if something blocked them.
She quickly calculated that if she told Zhao Ran every detail of last night, with this bad guy’s temperament, he would certainly laugh at her mercilessly.
Besides, Bai Youwei previously swore that she was not interested in him.
At that time, those words would be overturned instantly, and she would lose face terribly.
So Bai Youwei ultimately chose to keep quiet.
Zhao Ran had just gotten out of bed; his head still felt heavy, and he raised his hand to pat his throbbing skull.
He was suffering when he heard Bai Youwei speak, and his attention shifted instantly.
But after waiting a long time, he saw no follow-up.
Zhao Ran simply got down from the bed and went to wash.
…
In the living room.
The four of them sat around eating breakfast together.
Bai Youwei absentmindedly picked up a serving of breakfast, opened it, and then mechanically fed herself.
Zhao Ran sat beside her, saw that she ate little, and asked gently, “Weiwei, is that all you’re having? Will it be enough? How about another portion?”
When Bai Youwei heard him, she quickly lifted her head, her mouth still full of food.
She shook her head indistinctly, indicating she had eaten enough.
Seeing this, Zhao Ran did not persuade her further and reached for an unopened carton of milk.
After he inserted the straw, he handed the milk to Bai Youwei.
“Weiwei, drink some milk.”
Upon hearing this, Bai Youwei stopped chewing; her whole body seemed frozen.
Could he really mean what he said…
Was he planning to take responsibility?
Thinking of this, Bai Youwei felt heat rise to her cheeks and did not know whether it was the heater or her own panic.
She answered perfunctorily, took the milk, and pretended to drink casually.
Shen Qingxuan appeared to focus on his steamed buns, yet the corner of his eye secretly watched the two of them.
The more Shen Qingxuan watched them quietly eating breakfast, the more he felt something was wrong.
After all, these two usually bickered the moment they met.
Why were they suddenly so quiet today?
Not only that, Shen Qingxuan noticed that his dear boy kept flattering Senior.
One moment he asked whether her breakfast was enough, and the next he thoughtfully passed her milk.
As for Senior, she kept avoiding Zhao Ran’s gaze.
Whenever Zhao Ran looked at her, she immediately lowered her head or turned her face aside.
Shen Qingxuan leaned close to Jiang Yubing’s ear and whispered, “Wife, something is fishy!”
