Chapter 123 1/2
The day after the village branch secretary received the Yan family of three, Yan Lei also met Qiao Wei at the train station.
At this point, it wasn’t appropriate to hug in public, so Yan Lei could only hold Yan Xiang in one hand and firmly grasp Qiao Wei’s hand with the other to convey his warmth.
Qiao Wei said, “Dad’s illness is going smoothly, and everything at home is fine. You don’t need to worry.”
Yan Lei nodded.
After putting down the child, he carried her belongings for her.
On the way, Xiao Zhang said, “Sister-in-law is back. The captain asks if there’s any call for him a thousand times a day.”
Captain Yan was annoyed, “Focus on driving! It seems you’ve grown a long tongue.”
Xiao Zhang chuckled.
Yan Xiang said, “Daddy, we really missed you.”
Captain Yan solemnly replied with a grunt.
Xiao Zhang laughed even louder.
When they arrived home, Qiao Wei opened her travel bag and took out cigarettes and alcohol to give to Xiao Zhang. “These are brands we don’t have here. Try them.”
“Thank you, sister-in-law!”
Qiao Wei and Yan Xiang waved goodbye to the jeep and left.
Yan Lei carried the luggage, and the family of three finally reunited.
Qiao Wei saw the clean and tidy yard of her home, the light yellow mud walls, and felt a sense of relaxation throughout her body.
In this world, in this era, she was truly rooting herself here. This yard, this house, was her home.
As soon as Yan Lei put down the luggage, Qiao Wei hugged him.
With no outsiders present, Yan Lei hugged Qiao Wei tightly.
Yan Xiang didn’t find it strange; she went to find some candy to eat.
After being apart for half a month, the two of them hugged tightly for who knows how long, smelling each other’s scent, feeling both peaceful and satisfied in their hearts.
Home is where you find your place.
Marriage is having someone to accompany you.
In the home, with this person,
There is nothing else to ask for.
Until Yan Xiang spoke up, “Mom, can I go play with Jun Jun?”
Only then did the two adults let go of each other. Qiao Wei saw through it with a single sentence, “You want to tell Jun Jun about the big train, right?”
Yan Xiang chuckled.
Caught red-handed.
He had ridden the big train twice and wanted to tell Jun Jun about it.
Qiao Wei said, “Let’s go together later.”
Then she said to Yan Lei, “I bought some local specialties from the provincial capital over there. I’ll tidy them up and send them to Zhao Sister-in-law.”
Yan Lei said, “No rush, have some water first.”
Qiao Wei went to wash her face and hands.
But when she saw the tea pot handed over by Yan Lei, she found it was actually mung bean soup, specially made for her return.
It was summer, so the bamboo bed was brought out and placed under the eaves. Qiao Wei sat on the bamboo bed drinking mung bean soup, watching Yan Lei hold Yan Xiang high, asking him who he met at their hometown, and if he played with his brothers and sisters.
Yan Xiang shook his head, “We didn’t stay at Grandpa and Grandma’s house. We only had one meal, then we took a long-distance bus to the provincial capital from the county town. We stayed at the guesthouse in the provincial capital, which had a canteen and bathhouse. We could take hot baths at night. Mom and Grandma bathed together, and I bathed with Uncle. Uncle didn’t know how to use the faucet, so I taught him.”
Yan Lei rubbed Yan Xiang’s face and gave him some candy, “Go read a book first.”
He sat on the bamboo chair, watching Qiao Wei drink mung bean soup leisurely on the bamboo bed.
Both of them were calm and composed individuals.
Qiao Wei drank half a pot of sweet mung bean soup before speaking.
“Let me tell you about the results first,” she said. “Dad had kidney stones, which had been left untreated for too long and had become infected and inflamed, with complications. He had surgery performed by the head surgeon of the Provincial People’s Hospital, which went very smoothly, and the follow-up treatment and recovery were also very good. The complications have been effectively controlled. Dad’s health is now very good, and he can work in the fields without any problems.”
Yan Lei said, “Thank you for your hard work.”
Qiao Wei continued, “Mom had a smell on her body. Women are more likely to have gynecological problems after giving birth, so I took her to see a gynecologist and she underwent three courses of treatment. She also had a physical examination, and some old problems were treated with medication. Now Mom is very healthy too.”
Yan Lei’s eyes were slightly red. He sighed and held her hand, “Thanks to you.”
The family didn’t understand anything, and as a son, he couldn’t bring himself to talk to his mother about gynecological problems. Fortunately, there was Qiao Wei, who understood everything, didn’t despise, and helped with everything she could.
She cared.
After explaining the results first, Qiao Wei began to tell the story from the beginning.
Hearing how Qiao Wei rushed back in dust and found the house empty, Yan Lei’s face was very ugly.
Hearing how Qiao Wei scared the hospital director and found the best medical resources for his father, he exclaimed, “You’re amazing.”
When Qiao Wei mentioned that she only bought three long-distance bus tickets to send the Yan family of three back, and she didn’t even stay at home for a night, and the things she brought back were scattered outside, he didn’t get angry. Instead, he raised his eyebrows triumphantly and said, “You did the right thing.”
Of course, Yan Lei cared for his family, but husband and wife are also one entity.
Just like what he said when he saw off Qiao Wei, it only matters what is right or wrong, regardless of identity.
“If it were me, I would do the same,” he said. “If people respect us, we respect them.”
If someone offends me, I will retaliate.
Yan Lei’s mind has always been clear, and his principles have always been clear. But when Qiao Wei thought about the allocation plan for the money in the house that he arranged… she couldn’t help but purse her lips.
Yan Lei noticed, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Qiao Wei stood up to tidy up, “I bought some local specialties back, let’s divide them and send them to each family.”
Yan Lei stood up and followed her, “What did you want to say just now?”
Qiao Wei didn’t want to get involved in the internal affairs of Yan Lei’s family. She had done what she needed to do, and as for matters that were already resolved within the family, if she could avoid getting involved, she would.
“Nothing. Oh, by the way,” she said, “I’ve already handled the matters at home. You don’t need to make any calls afterward. I’ve told my parents, and this matter is wiped out from now on. It’s in the past, just like us. We’ll talk about it later when we meet.”
Yan Lei understood, “Don’t worry, I’m not one to stir up trouble.”
As a leader, doing things and speaking are both an art. People who are not adept in this area cannot rise high or far.
While Qiao Wei was sorting things out, she continued, “I also bought sleeper tickets when I came back, and I also bought bedding for Xiang Xiang.”
She took Yan Lei’s documents and bought sleeper tickets with them.
As for bedding, Yan Lei said, “I knew you would have a way.”
