Chapter 39: A Game Within a Game
The grand competition was in full swing.
As the chief disciple of Undao Mountain, Mu Yunqing was able to make it into the top three, which was no surprise to Su Jiu.
But she couldn’t understand how that good-for-nothing Qi Chaoye also squeezed into the top three.
If she remembered correctly, this guy had been pretending to be useless in the early stages of the plot, even being knocked off the stage with three strikes. How did he suddenly become so strong?
Following the usual practice, the champion of this grand competition would be decided among these three.
Three direct disciples, one of whom was the headmaster’s chief disciple, Shuang Bai, and the other two were Shen Xianjun’s disciples. This competition had been the talk of the town for three days before it began.
On the day of the official competition, the arena was packed with people. Even though Mu Yunqing had reserved a spot for her, Su Jiu had to push her way through a huge crowd to get in.
Mo Lin was still wearing his usual black clothes, silently following beside Su Jiu, only his hair was a little messy.
There were too many people just now, and he was beside Su Jiu, blocking many people for her, but Su Jiu didn’t see it, so he naturally wouldn’t say anything.
“Senior Brother!”
Seeing Mu Yunqing today, Su Jiu’s eyes lit up.
[Mommy! Those pecs, I love them!]
Mu Yunqing usually wore very simple and plain clothes. Today, for the convenience of the competition, he specially changed into the disciples’ training clothes.
The long, moon-white short-sleeved outfit showed off his figure perfectly in front of Su Jiu.
Mu Yunqing had a gentle and elegant appearance, and wearing ordinary clothes, you couldn’t see the muscles underneath. Now that he had changed into this outfit, his muscles were particularly obvious and clear, especially his chest.
Su Jiu’s eyes couldn’t move away for a long time.
“Junior Sister…” Mu Yunqing’s cheeks flushed slightly. He wasn’t used to these close-fitting clothes, and he felt a little embarrassed. He casually put on the outer garment beside him and gently pulled it together in front of his chest.
Qi Chaoye felt a little annoyed, and he smiled, “Senior Brother’s appearance makes me think of those girls in the brothels who are pretending to be reluctant… Oh, sorry,”
He blinked, looking as if he had said something wrong, “I’m not comparing Senior Brother to them, don’t misunderstand.”
This teasing remark earned him a look from Su Jiu.
[As expected of a fox… spirit.]
She sighed, and the smile on Qi Chaoye’s face froze.
Mu Yunqing had been a little embarrassed by Qi Chaoye’s words. He was originally the golden prince, even after entering the immortal path, he had always been kind to others, and he had never been spoken to in such a sarcastic way.
However, Su Jiu’s thought voice made him laugh involuntarily.
Seeing Qi Chaoye looking at Su Jiu, Mu Yunqing was afraid that he would embarrass her, so he quickly pulled her wrist and walked away.
“Senior Brother, don’t listen to Second Senior Brother,” seeing that Mu Yunqing was a little uncomfortable, Su Jiu pursed her lips and smiled, “Senior Brother looks so handsome today, really, much handsomer than Second Senior Brother.”
Hearing her words, Mu Yunqing felt a warm current flowing through his heart, inexplicably warm.
“Hmm.” He smiled faintly, gently touched Su Jiu’s head with his palm, and suddenly said, “Do you want to see Senior Brother win?”
His black pupils were exceptionally serious, making Su Jiu momentarily dazed.
“Of course.” She came back to her senses and said to Mu Yunqing, “Senior Brother will definitely win.”
[But if I remember correctly, the champion this time is Shuang Bai, and…]
Su Jiu suddenly remembered something.
“Wait…”
She had just grabbed Mu Yunqing’s hand when the elder on the stage shouted, “The contestants are Shuang Bai of the Main Peak and Mu Yunqing of Undao Mountain.”
A cheer erupted from the crowd, and countless eyes turned towards Mu Yunqing.
“Junior Sister, I have to go up now,” Mu Yunqing glanced at her, knowing what Su Jiu wanted to say, but Qi Chaoye and Mo Lin were both around, and he couldn’t reveal his flaws, so he could only gently squeeze her hand.
“Don’t worry.”
Su Jiu didn’t know what Mu Yunqing meant, and as she watched him go up on stage, she felt a little panicked.
Because if she remembered correctly, in this final match, Shuang Bai seemed to be infected with the Blood Demon Seed by Mo Lin, and he would suddenly erupt at the end of the match, seriously injuring Mu Yunqing and killing many disciples present.
And Mo Lin himself…
Su Jiu looked around, and sure enough, she didn’t see Mo Lin beside Qi Chaoye. She looked around again, and saw him, dressed in black, walking leisurely through the crowd towards the back mountain.
Su Jiu was startled.
She thought she probably knew what Mo Lin was going to do.
The depths of the back mountain were the forbidden area of Qian Yuan Sect, where the Demon Sealing Array was located.
In the original plot, Mo Lin used the Demon Seed to throw Qian Yuan Sect into chaos, but he didn’t show up himself, instead, he continued to indulge in love until Shen Wangchen’s second poisoning, when Cang Qianxue came to detoxify him, he took advantage of this opportunity to seriously injure Shen Wangchen and Cang Qianxue, and broke the seal of the Demon Sealing Array.
This led to the descent of the demons.
But it wasn’t time for him to break the seal of the Demon Sealing Array yet, so what was he doing in the back mountain?
Without time to think, Su Jiu hurriedly followed.
Qi Chaoye watched her follow Mo Lin, his eyes flickered slightly, his feather fan resting on his chin, and the corners of his lips slowly curled up.
Su Jiu wasn’t sure if Mo Lin was really going to the forbidden area of the back mountain until she followed him all the way to the edge of Mengxi Valley and discovered that Mo Lin really seemed to be going to break the seal of the Demon Sealing Array ahead of time.
Why?
Su Jiu was puzzled, but she also became more vigilant. As she followed Mo Lin inside, she sent a message to Shen Wangchen first.
She hadn’t forgotten that she was still a fragile human.
The forbidden area was shrouded in mist, with towering stone forests. As soon as Su Jiu stepped inside, she lost sight of Mo Lin.
She had a bad feeling about this and wanted to retreat immediately, but the mist, for some unknown reason, became even thicker.
The mist in this forbidden area was called the Mind-Bewildering Mist. If someone accidentally entered, the mist would amplify their deepest fears.
Su Jiu walked around for a while, and suddenly Mo Lin appeared in front of her.
He was holding the sword Su Jiu had given him, and he stabbed at her with a cold expression.
“Mo Lin!”
Although she knew it was all an illusion, Su Jiu couldn’t suppress the hatred in her heart. For a moment, she forgot about the Three-Day Red Face poison she had taken and drew her long sword from behind, charging at him.
She had learned the Nine Forms of Swordsmanship from Mo Lin, but Mo Lin’s talent in swordsmanship was not as good as hers. However, now Su Jiu had no cultivation, and the two of them fought evenly.
Su Jiu simply treated this as an illusion created by the Mind-Bewildering Mist, and her attacks became even more ruthless.
Although she had no cultivation, when it came to using a sword, Mo Lin was no match for her.
Su Jiu raised her long sword and stabbed it into Mo Lin’s arm. The sound of the blade piercing flesh was incredibly clear and realistic. Su Jiu paused, before she could think about why the illusion was so real, she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her wrist.
Her hand trembled, and the long sword fell to the ground.
The mist around her dissipated at that moment, and Su Jiu finally saw the people standing around her. She was stunned.
