Chapter 52: The Drowned Palace Maid
Su Jiu stood beside Mu Yunqing, feeling a little superfluous.
“Senior Brother,” she tugged at Mu Yunqing’s sleeve and whispered, “Should I go out for a while?”
Mu Yunqing frowned slightly, turned his head to look at her, but raised his hand and directly held her hand in his palm, right in front of the woman opposite them.
Su Jiu was stunned, she felt a little inappropriate, and subconsciously wanted to pull her hand back, but the woman opposite spoke first.
“Your Highness, long time no see.”
Her voice was clear and gentle, and her gaze at Mu Yunqing seemed to have a hint of faint melancholy.
“Since we parted that day, it’s been twenty-eight years.” She smiled lightly, reaching out to smooth the loose hair at her temples, her gaze peaceful as she looked at Mu Yunqing, “You’re still the same as you were back then.”
Back then, when Mu Yunqing proposed to break off the engagement, he had discussed it with Zhao Qinglin first, and she had agreed.
They had parted on good terms.
Even though they hadn’t become husband and wife, they still had a bond from growing up together.
Mu Yunqing looked at her with a gentle expression and nodded lightly, “Yes, it’s been twenty-eight years. You haven’t changed much either, you’re still the same as you were back then.”
But compared to him, Zhao Qinglin was no longer the seventeen-year-old girl she once was.
Her delicate brows and eyes had the marks of time.
Mu Yunqing’s words were just a polite formality.
Zhao Qinglin knew that.
He was still as gentle as he was back then, never letting anyone feel awkward in front of him.
He was a prince who had been pampered since childhood, but why was he so gentle and considerate?
Zhao Qinglin thought painfully, if he hadn’t been so good, she wouldn’t have married Mu Si’an all these years, but her heart was still with him.
She stared at Mu Yunqing痴痴, speechless for a while.
Mu Yunqing seemed a little embarrassed as well, he tightened his grip on Su Jiu’s hand.
[Old lovers reminiscing, what kind of big light bulb am I here?]
Su Jiu silently stood there as a backdrop. To be honest, she was more embarrassed than the two people involved.
[Also, Senior Brother, can you stop squeezing my hand so hard? My hand is really going to break!]
Su Jiu was full of resentment. She finally managed to pull her hand away from Mu Yunqing, and without a word, she turned and walked out, “Senior Brother, I want to go out for some fresh air. Why don’t you two chat first, I’ll wait for you outside!”
As soon as she finished speaking, she had already disappeared into the crowd.
Mu Yunqing stared at her back, wanting to follow her, but his arm was pulled.
Zhao Qinglin looked around cautiously, pulling Mu Yunqing’s arm and lowering her voice, “I have something very important to tell you.”
Outside the hall,
Su Jiu walked alone in the night breeze, her mind gradually calming down.
Since she awakened her consciousness, it had been two months.
So far, everything that had happened seemed to be in the plot she knew, but it also seemed to be different.
For example, someone in Qian Yuan Sect was poisoned by the “Three-Day Red Face,” but unlike the original plot, the victim wasn’t the headmaster’s junior brother, one of the few powerful figures in the world, Shen Wangchen, but an unknown female disciple of Qian Yuan Sect.
This also meant that if the demon and demon realms wanted to cause trouble again, it wouldn’t be as bad as in the original plot, where there wasn’t even a powerful figure who could resist them.
For example, Mo Lin still sided with the demon realm and chose to open the Demon Sealing Array.
However, unlike the original plot, for some unknown reason, he didn’t manage to cause chaos in Qian Yuan Sect, nor did he break the seal of the Demon Sealing Array. Instead, he lost an arm to Shen Wangchen.
For example, what’s happening in the Li Dynasty now.
Mu Si’an, the emperor, didn’t die, and Mu Yunqing came to the Li Dynasty ahead of time because of her.
So, will he follow the path of the original plot?
Give up his cultivation, choose to return to the human realm, become their emperor, and protect the people of the Li Dynasty?
Even though Su Jiu knew that no matter what path he chose, Mu Yunqing would make his own decision.
But in her heart, she still hoped that Mu Yunqing would stay with her.
After all, in Su Jiu’s memory, Mu Yunqing, no matter what, was the gentle and considerate Senior Brother who had grown up with her.
He had never hurt her.
The night wind blew gently, and Su Jiu walked aimlessly along the palace path, unconsciously arriving at a pond.
A slightly yellow crescent moon hung overhead, reflected in the pond. A gentle breeze blew, ruffling the soft water.
Su Jiu stopped, looking at the quiet night, her mind rarely feeling empty.
“——Ah! Your Majesty!”
A nervous and frightened female voice suddenly came from her ear, followed by a splash. The female voice became even more panicked.
“Help… save me…”
Su Jiu frowned slightly and turned to look. She saw a pale blue hem of clothing bobbing up and down in the water.
Her heart tightened, and without thinking, she flew to the surface of the water, leaned down, her palm firmly grasped the woman’s constantly shaking hand, and with a slight effort, she pulled the woman out of the water.
Su Jiu pulled her arm, spun around to the shore, and was about to ask her how she was feeling, but she heard someone clapping in the darkness beside her.
“Clap, clap, clap…”
Mu Si’an, dressed in a yellow robe, walked out of the darkness, his eagle-like eyes fixed on Su Jiu, scanning from her face down to her chin, collarbone, and then stopping at her chest.
When Su Jiu had just pulled the woman up, she had struggled, splashing a lot of water from the pond onto Su Jiu.
Su Jiu was wearing blue clothes, and they were inevitably a little wet.
Mu Si’an’s gaze lingered on Su Jiu’s chest without any concealment, the corner of his lips twitched, and he said in a tone that seemed like praise, “You have good skills, Miss.”
But it somehow sounded unpleasant to Su Jiu.
She narrowed her eyes slightly, her expression a little indifferent, “Your Majesty is flattering me.”
“Achoo…”
The woman who had been saved by Su Jiu shivered slightly, caught a chill, and sneezed. Then, she immediately knelt down in front of Su Jiu, “Thank you, Miss, for saving my life, thank you, Miss…”
She kept kowtowing.
Su Jiu quickly leaned down to pull her up, “No need, it was nothing… Your hands are so cold, get up quickly and change your clothes. Be careful not to catch a cold.”
She pulled the woman up and saw her face clearly.
She was a seventeen or eighteen-year-old palace maid, wearing simple blue clothes, with delicate brows and eyes, clear and clean eyes, slightly upturned at the ends, looking innocent and pure, but also with a hint of charm, at first glance, she looked a little like Su Jiu.
Su Jiu looked at her, feeling a sense of kinship in her heart.
The palace maid repeatedly thanked her, but refused to get up. Instead, she bit her lip hesitantly, her timid gaze falling on Mu Si’an opposite Su Jiu, her voice trembling, “Your Majesty…”
Mu Si’an took a step forward, looking at Su Jiu with a playful smile, “Miss Su, you saved one of my people in my palace. I suppose I should thank you.”
“It’s a pity,” he abruptly changed the subject, his voice low and mournful, “This palace maid has no respect for hierarchy, she’s overstepping her bounds. She dares to try to seduce me, taking advantage of her resemblance to Miss Su. Miss Su, tell me, should I have her beaten to death with sticks to set an example for the palace?”
Those sinister eyes stopped on Su Jiu’s face, cold and wet, making Su Jiu feel like she was being wrapped around by a venomous snake.
