Chapter 40
Bai Xiuxiu turned around after hearing this and saw a bicycle rushing towards her.
This wasn’t a broken bicycle!
This was bad luck coming for her!
Zhou Jiaojiao turned around and saw it too. She was secretly pleased. It was Bai Xiuxiu’s turn to be unlucky! Thinking this, she moved to the side.
Bai Xiuxiu hugged her two children and dashed forward a few steps, but she saw that the bicycle was still heading towards her!
The rider looked desperate, about to hit someone!
Bai Xiuxiu cursed inwardly, thinking this was poisonous! Seeing Zhou Jiaojiao dodging to the side, she didn’t hesitate to dart behind her.
The next second, the bicycle, in a strange way, fell to the side, landing directly on Zhao Guifen, who hadn’t dodged in time.
The scream echoed across the entire street.
Bai Xiuxiu’s eyes lit up. Sure enough, this bad luck could be avoided.
Once bad luck encountered Zhou Jiaojiao herself, it would automatically take a turn.
“Ma’am, are you okay? I, I don’t know what happened, my bicycle suddenly went out of control. Do you need to go to the hospital?” The rider, a young man in his early thirties, awkwardly picked up his bicycle and asked Zhao Guifen.
Zhao Guifen’s leg was hit, and she was in so much pain that tears came to her eyes.
Hearing him ask, she immediately scowled and retorted: “Do you think I’m okay? You young man, don’t you have eyes? It hurts so much!”
“I’m so sorry, Ma’am, I’ll take you to the hospital?”
The young man continued.
“I’m not going to the hospital! I still have to go home and work. My leg is injured, give me ten yuan.” Zhao Guifen scowled, asking for an exorbitant amount.
Zhou Jiaojiao, standing beside her, heard this and looked at the cyclist, her eyes lit up.
Usually, when someone around her was unlucky, she would be lucky.
This person… could definitely help them.
Thinking this, Zhou Jiaojiao quickly ran over: “Big Brother, you hit my mother-in-law. She’s just joking with you. How can she take ten yuan? Where do you work? Tomorrow I’ll take my mother-in-law to see a doctor.
If anything happens, I’ll contact you. If nothing happens, I’ll let you know we’re safe.”
“What are you talking about? Did you fall into a river?” Zhao Guifen’s scolding was cut short by Zhou Jiaojiao, who covered her mouth.
She smiled at the man innocently: “Big Brother, I’m here, it’s okay, you can go. I saw you riding so fast just now, you must have something urgent to do?”
Jiang Weiguo did have something urgent to do. Looking at this young wife and then at her mother-in-law, he deeply felt the difference between people.
“My name is Jiang Weiguo, I work at the county’s food factory. You can find me by asking for Secretary Jiang. If anything happens, just tell me. I’m not someone who shirks responsibility!” After saying that, he quickly rode away.
After the man left, Zhou Jiaojiao let go of her hand.
Before she could be happy, Zhao Guifen scolded her: “Are you trying to die? He’s a cyclist, his family must be rich! You can definitely get ten yuan. What are you doing, letting him go? You have no brains!”
“Mom, this man is a cadre at the food factory, maybe he can help us get a job later!” Zhou Jiaojiao explained softly.
She was afraid of being overheard by others.
What she wanted most recently was for her husband to get a good job.
Her good luck was innate! This encounter must be for this reason!
Zhou Jiaojiao firmly believed this.
Zhao Guifen calmed down after being told by her.
Could this work?
Although she didn’t know if it would work, it was better than hanging onto one tree.
Having more options was a good thing.
Thinking about it, Zhao Guifen’s face softened. She turned to Bai Xiuxiu on the side of the road: “You heartless wretch! Why did you dodge? If you hadn’t dodged, the bicycle would have hit me? I knew you weren’t being sincere! You must have wanted me to die!
How did your mother teach you? There’s not a single good person in your family!
How can you be such a vicious little vixen?”
“Old hag, if you can’t speak properly, then shut your mouth!” Bai Xiuxiu coldly scolded.
Zhao Guifen was stunned. This unlucky wretch dared to scold her?
“What are you looking at? I’m talking to you. The bicycle was heading towards me, and I didn’t dodge, I stood there waiting to die? I was holding my two children! I could dodge, why couldn’t you?” Bai Xiuxiu retorted.
Zhou Jiaojiao was shocked: “Sister-in-law, how can you talk to Mom like that? I didn’t blame you for dodging behind me, but you can’t be disrespectful to Mom.”
“Zhou Jiaojiao, why did the bicycle suddenly change direction when I dodged behind you? I’ve noticed that recently, whenever you go to the mountain with us, this whole family keeps having bad luck…” Bai Xiuxiu softly asked her.
Zhou Jiaojiao’s face turned pale: “How can that be? I think we’ve been pretty lucky these past few days. Mom, don’t you think so?”
Zhao Guifen was still in pain, but these past few days… they had both bad luck and good luck. It was truly strange.
Bai Xiuxiu looked at Zhao Guifen: “You always talk dirty about me, I accept that. But if I hear you say a single bad word about my mother, no one in this family will have a good life.”
“You!” Zhao Guifen was so angry with Bai Xiuxiu that she was about to explode.
But she was caught off guard.
There were only two people in the eldest son’s family, and counting her two children, there were only four people.
If the good life of this family was ruined, there would be over ten people in their whole family!
Seeing that she had nothing to say, Bai Xiuxiu was satisfied. She turned to Zhou Jiaojiao: “Jiaojiao, why don’t you quickly help Mom up? We still have to go get those scraps of cloth, right? Let me tell you, if the scraps of cloth are gone, you have to compensate us.”
Zhou Jiaojiao: …
Sure enough, Bai Xiuxiu was still dead!
Zhou Jiaojiao, with a dark face, helped Zhao Guifen up. The family continued to walk back.
When they were close to the place where they found the money, Zhou Jiaojiao’s mind changed. She said to Bai Xiuxiu: “Sister-in-law, Mom and I saw it up ahead. I’m supporting Mom, so I walk slowly. Why don’t you…”
Before she finished speaking, Bai Xiuxiu had already taken over supporting Zhao Guifen.
She looked at Zhou Jiaojiao innocently: “What are you standing there for? Go quickly. How could I possibly find the things you hid?”
Zhou Jiaojiao’s face was ugly. That money was hidden so deep, it must have been hidden by someone.
How could the person not come back to look for it all this time?
Now she was being sent over, wasn’t this asking for trouble?
“Sister-in-law, I…” Zhou Jiaojiao didn’t want to go.
“What’s wrong? Is there something wrong?” Bai Xiuxiu pretended to be clueless, coldly looking at her.
Zhou Jiaojiao reluctantly walked over. Surely she wouldn’t run into someone as soon as she got there, right?
When she got there, she pretended to look around.
Seeing a figure in the distance, she shivered in fear. She had a sudden idea and shouted: “Sister-in-law, I didn’t see any scraps of cloth.”
Bai Xiuxiu had been watching her. Seeing her strange behavior, she raised her voice even higher than her: “Fifth sister-in-law, didn’t you say you saw some scraps of cloth here? You also said you hid them, and you insisted on bringing me here. But now there’s nothing here?
Why didn’t you just take them when you saw them? Why did you have to hide them first?”
Bai Xiuxiu explained the whole situation clearly in a few sentences.
Zhou Jiaojiao’s face turned pale.
