“The Cannon Fodder Who Dies at the Start is Actually a Max-Level Retired Big Shot” Chapter 16

Chapter 16: Enthralled by Him

After bidding farewell to the stream, the five of them piled into a car, heading towards Su Yan’s house.

“For the sake of everyone, Zhou Quan, you better keep your mouth shut,” Gao Lin retorted, showing no mercy.

Zhou Quan tried his best to argue, but Gao Lin used one hand to cover his mouth and the other to wrap around his neck, pulling him into his embrace, preventing him from saying a word.

Zhou Quan furrowed his brows and made a few “Ugh, ugh” sounds before finally giving up on speaking.

Lou Su, who was driving, noticed the commotion in the back and was a bit puzzled.

“Zhou Quan has a crow’s tongue; good things don’t come true, but bad things do. We encountered danger several times yesterday because of what he said,” Chu Xihen explained.

Su Yan couldn’t stop laughing in the back.

“If he were to awaken an ability, it should be related to premonitions, right?” Lou Su joked.

Although controlling Zhou Quan’s freedom of speech was somewhat of a joke, they arrived at Su Yan’s house peacefully all the way.

They didn’t encounter any Variants, not even mutated animals. It could be described as quite bizarre.

Su Yan lived in a villa. As they entered the villa district, everything around them was quiet, with no Variants and no people.

Arriving at Su Yan’s house, they could see from the outside that the house was dark, and her heart sank.

“The villas we saw on the way here were all intact. This place shouldn’t have been attacked by Variants,” Gao Lin said, noticing Su Yan’s expression and trying to comfort her.

Su Yan nodded and led the others into the house.

She turned on the lights and immediately rushed towards the master bedroom to look for her parents.

The others vigilantly surveyed the situation in the living room.

Zhou Quan saw a note on the coffee table. Just as he picked it up to call Su Yan out, he suddenly noticed the red marks underneath the note. He quickly tore off the bottom half and stuffed it into his pocket.

Chu Xihen, after looking around the house, happened to see Zhou Quan’s little action.

“Su Yan, come out quickly! Your parents left you a note,” Zhou Quan said, adjusting his emotions and excitedly calling out to Su Yan in the master bedroom.

Su Yan came out with red eyes and took the note from Zhou Quan’s hands.

“Your parents said they evacuated with the military. Now you can rest assured, right?” Zhou Quan asked with a smile.

“Yeah,” Su Yan wiped away her tears and nodded with a smile.

It was already very late, and they had eaten something. Besides, even if there was food in Su Yan’s house, it would have spoiled. The only good thing about being in the villa was probably not having to sleep in the wilderness.

“You can stay in any room upstairs or downstairs. I’ll go stay in the master bedroom. Even though I know my parents are safe, I still miss them a bit,” Su Yan said with a smile before entering the room.

Chu Xihen felt that Su Yan’s condition was a bit off. Perhaps, as she said, she missed her parents.

After Su Yan closed the door, Zhou Quan gathered the others together and whispered, “Something must have happened to Su Yan’s parents.”

As he spoke, he took out the torn piece of paper from his pocket and showed it to the other three.

The note only had one sentence written on it. Zhou Quan tearing off the bottom half didn’t affect the content, so Su Yan didn’t notice anything strange.

That half of the note had dark red bloodstains on it.

It was likely that Su Yan’s parents left her the note after something happened to them. The bloodstains clearly showed signs of being wiped, but it still seemed too abnormal.

“I was afraid she would break down, so I secretly hid it. Did I do the wrong thing by doing this?” Zhou Quan asked Lou Su.

“It’s best to keep it from her if we can,” Lou Su didn’t think Zhou Quan had done anything wrong.

Now it was the apocalypse. Even if Su Yan’s parents were really safe, they might not be able to see each other again. It was better to let Su Yan think they were still alive and well.

“Zhou Quan and I will sleep on the sofa. You guys go to the room to sleep. I slept too much during the day and can’t sleep now. I’ll keep watch tonight, and I’ll wake you up if there’s any movement,” Gao Lin said to Lou Su.

Zhou Quan was worried and said, “You’re injured. What kind of watch are you going to keep? I’ll keep watch. You should go to the room to sleep.”

“No need, I’ll keep you company,” Gao Lin insisted.

Seeing that they had made a decision, Lou Su pulled Chu Xihen into the room next to the master bedroom.

“Tell me, why did you run away from the airport?” A day had passed, and Lou Su finally found an opportunity to ask this question.

Chu Xihen frowned slightly, not knowing how to answer Lou Su’s question.

If Chu Xihen hadn’t had that dream when the apocalypse came, hadn’t known that this was a novel world, he wouldn’t have left and would have obediently waited for Lou Su to return at the airport.

Based on his understanding of Lou Su, the other party wasn’t the kind of person who would be unfaithful.

But this was a novel world. When the two male leads met, they only had eyes for each other. There was no reasoning to be had.

Moreover, he was just cannon fodder who was supposed to die at the beginning. Naturally, he didn’t want to get involved in the protagonist’s conflicts, lest he couldn’t even do something as simple as finding a place to retire.

“You don’t want to tell me?” They didn’t turn on the lights after entering the room.

Chu Xihen didn’t speak for a long time, and Lou Su frowned slightly and asked.

“I want to find a safe place to hide and retire,” Chu Xihen finally revealed his wish.

Yes, this was a wish.

Whether it was two years ago or now, he only had this one wish, but things never went as he wished!

“Following me is the safest,” Lou Su didn’t ask Chu Xihen why. From the moment he met him, he had discovered that the other party’s mind was full of strange ideas. Even though this was the apocalypse and Chu Xihen’s words were very inappropriate, he didn’t pour cold water on him.

On the contrary, he was willing to help Chu Xihen.

In this world, wanting to find a safe place was simply a luxury. It was better to stay by his side.

“Wan Ming said you wanted to break up with me,” Chu Xihen suddenly changed the topic.

Although he believed that Lou Su hadn’t said these words, he still wanted to test the other party’s intentions.

Lou Su was one of the male leads in this book world. If the other party was willing to protect him wholeheartedly, then it would indeed be very safe.

It was just that the male lead had to save the world, and following him meant running around everywhere. Chu Xihen wasn’t too happy about this.

He just didn’t like to move.

“If I wanted to break up, I would tell you in person and wouldn’t let anyone relay it,” Lou Su stared at Chu Xihen in the darkness. “You couldn’t have listened to Wan Ming’s nonsense. Did you misunderstand something?”

Chu Xihen chuckled. “Mr. Lou, don’t talk like you know me very well.”

Lou Su pulled him into his arms and hugged him, saying in his ear, “Is there anyone in this world who knows you better than me?”

These words had some other meaning. Chu Xihen also hugged him back, dropping the previous topic. Neither of them pursued it any further.

Lou Su hugged Chu Xihen and lay down on the bed, sighing helplessly in his heart.

Chu Xihen was still the same as when they first met two years ago, very guarded and not telling him a single truth.

But the more he was like this, the more enthralled he became with Chu Xihen.

He wanted to peel open Chu Xihen’s meticulously constructed heart layer by layer to see what was hidden inside.
