Chapter 20: Barrage of Arrows
Seeing the green-haired wolf fly out engulfed in flames, Zhou Quan’s eyes widened as he turned to look at Gao Lin.
Gao Lin’s hand was still raised in mid-air, not yet lowered.
“You… awakened an ability?” Zhou Quan’s voice was soft, as if afraid that a loud sound would startle something.
Gao Lin stared at his hand in disbelief. “I guess so?”
As he spoke, he felt the heaviness in his chest disappear.
The ability was healing his injuries.
“Now that you’ve awakened, stand up and fight.” Lou Suo wasn’t overly surprised, taking a moment to glance back and remind Gao Lin.
Gao Lin quickly scrambled to his feet, standing beside Zhou Quan, joining them in fighting the Variants.
However, even with the addition of another ability user, the situation remained unfavorable for them.
More and more Variants appeared, one wave replacing another.
Moreover, Gao Lin had just awakened his ability, and his inexperience in using it was secondary. His mental strength hadn’t been tempered by the ability, and after using it a few times, he began to feel mentally drained.
But he didn’t back down. Even with blood streaming from his nose, he desperately continued to use his ability against the Variants.
His fireballs didn’t inflict much damage, only burning the Variants without killing them outright.
However, with Lou Suo present, this wasn’t a major problem.
The issue was that Lou Suo’s ability was only at Level 2. He was more skilled than Gao Lin, and a Level 2 ability was superior to a Level 1 ability in every way, but his mental strength would eventually be exhausted.
And the Variants kept attacking relentlessly, impossible to eliminate completely.
“Gao Lin, why don’t you rest for a bit?” Zhou Quan felt terrible seeing Gao Lin’s continuous nosebleed.
But if Gao Lin relaxed, the Variants would pounce on their side, and they wouldn’t be able to handle them.
Without Variants weakened, Lou Suo’s ability could only eliminate the Variants in front of him and Chu Xihen.
Chu Xihen was well-protected by Lou Suo, and the cleaver in his hand hadn’t even been used yet.
But when he turned his head and saw the situation on Gao Lin’s side, his brow furrowed slightly.
Gao Lin was completely unable to use his ability, experiencing bleeding from all seven orifices of his head. His hands drooped, and his body lurched forward towards the swarm of Variants.
Seeing this, Zhou Quan hastily threw his dagger, stepped in front of Gao Lin, embraced him, and exposed his back to the Variants.
He was trying to shield Gao Lin from the damage.
At this moment, Su Yan, who was next to him, was so frightened that she didn’t know what to do, standing frozen in place with her dagger.
Just as Chu Xihen was about to raise his hand to help them, they heard a series of crisp “crack” sounds in the air.
The Variants in a circle around them were frozen in ice.
Lou Suo seized the opportunity to harvest all the frozen Variants in one fell swoop, and two cards emitting blue light appeared in the air.
“Lou-ge, are you all right!”
An anxious voice suddenly rang out. The group looked in the direction of the voice and were surprised to see Bai Jinli and Han Chong, who had been separated from them yesterday.
“Wow, that coordination was so cool!” Zhou Quan turned his head, saw that all the Variants around them were dead, and exclaimed without a care in the world.
Bai Jinli and Han Chong approached, the former with a worried expression and the latter with a look of disgust.
His disgust was naturally directed at Chu Xihen.
“Thank you,” Lou Suo said to Bai Jinli. “Two cards dropped just now, you can take them!”
Although cards were rare, he wouldn’t seize something that didn’t belong to him, especially since Bai Jinli and Han Chong had just saved them.
“Jinli, your luck is too good. You got a skill card last night, and two more tonight!” Han Chong exclaimed excitedly.
The skill card Bai Jinli obtained last night was the ice ability he had just used.
He was now completely won over by Bai Jinli. Although this man looked thin and weak, he had strength, luck, and a sense of loyalty!
However, Bai Jinli didn’t immediately take the cards, but instead generously said, “I only casually froze the Variants. These two cards should be yours.”
Hearing him say this, Han Chong felt a pang of heartache.
If Bai Jinli didn’t want them, he could give them to him. If Lou Suo got them, it would ultimately benefit Chu Xihen.
After all, Lou Suo already had an ability, while Chu Xihen was just a useless person.
But thinking that he would be following Bai Jinli in the future, he would definitely have opportunities to obtain better cards, so he would endure it this time!
Hearing Bai Jinli’s words, Lou Suo turned around and took the two cards, handing one to him without even looking. “Then let’s each take one?”
Because Lou Suo had dealt the final blow to the Variants, he had the right to pick up the cards.
“Okay,” Bai Jinli accepted the card without hesitation.
Zhou Quan helped Gao Lin to Lou Suo’s side. “Lou-dage, take a look quickly, what is it!”
Having previously obtained a trash card, Zhou Quan was now filled with anticipation mixed with a little fear.
Chu Xihen also craned his neck to look at the card in Lou Suo’s hand.
Then they saw the card’s title written in four familiar characters: A Paper Umbrella.
A row of small characters below read: A useless Xuan paper umbrella. It’s not even an oil-paper umbrella. It won’t hurt if you hit someone with it. You can probably use it to start a fire!
The group was speechless.
Before they could calm their emotions, they heard Han Chong exclaim excitedly in front, “Jinli, you got another skill card!”
Han Chong only glanced at the card, the title on it read: Barrage of Arrows.
This looked like a very powerful skill.
But the smile that had just risen on his face was forced back by the small description below.
Small characters: Put down the corners of your mouth that you raised. This is not a skill, but a bow and arrow that can fire ten thousand times. You can fire one at a time, or a barrage of ten thousand arrows.
Han Chong was rendered speechless as well.
However, Bai Jinli said good-naturedly, “Although it’s not a skill card, it’s still a very powerful weapon card. Ten thousand arrows can still kill a lot of Variants. It’s just a pity that I don’t know how to shoot arrows. Han-dage, do you know how?”
Han Chong shook his head with a dejected expression. “I don’t.”
He only learned how to use a gun from Lou Suo before the apocalypse. Archery was a technique that required dedicated practice. Moreover, the number of arrows was limited. If he didn’t shoot accurately, it would be a waste of the card.
Hearing his answer, Bai Jinli didn’t seem surprised at all. He looked up and asked Lou Suo, “Lou-ge, do you know how to shoot arrows? We got a weapon card called Barrage of Arrows.”
As he spoke, he handed the card over to Lou Suo and the others to look at. Then, he curiously asked, “What did you get? Is it a skill?”
“A useless card. If you don’t want this Barrage of Arrows, I’ll trade you,” Lou Suo said, handing the card in his hand to Bai Jinli.
Bai Jinli and Han Chong glanced at the card called [A Paper Umbrella], and the expressions on their faces were indescribable.
What they didn’t know was that Lou Suo had already obtained one of these cards before.
“Lou-ge, you should keep it. Han Chong and I are both ability users and have the ability to protect ourselves.” The implication was that Lou Suo’s group were all weaklings and needed more cards.
It was just that this [A Paper Umbrella] couldn’t even be used for self-defense, and they didn’t even want to find a place to put it.
Chu Xihen took the card back. He carefully looked at the description of the card again, feeling that since this thing existed, it shouldn’t be completely useless. Could it really only be used to start a fire?
“Xihen, take this card,” Lou Suo said, handing the [Barrage of Arrows] to Chu Xihen.
Seeing his actions, Bai Jinli, Han Chong, and even Zhou Quan and the others were stunned.
Could Chu Xihen, with his frail appearance, even draw a bow?
But then they heard Lou Suo say, “I remember you know how to shoot arrows.”
