Chapter 29: Never to be Separated Again
“Ahem…” Lou Su feigned a cough from the side, reminding Zhou Quan to watch his words.
Zhou Quan realized his slip-up and quickly slapped his own mouth. “Brother Lou, don’t take it to heart. I just have a big mouth. Consider this a punishment! The task of protecting Xihen still falls to you, ah!”
“What skill did you get?” Chu Xihen asked Zhou Quan.
Regardless of whether his skill was powerful or not, he appreciated Zhou Quan’s sentiment of not looking down on him and wanting to protect him.
Zhou Quan scratched his head, a bit embarrassed. “The name of my skill isn’t exactly pleasant. It’s called ‘Spinning Ball.’ But I think its description is pretty awesome. It says that you spin a ping pong ball and throw it out, invoking the elements of metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. Whoever it lands on is doomed.”
As it happened, Chu Xihen had actually heard of Zhou Quan’s skill, and it was indeed quite good. So, he chimed in agreement: “Sounds formidable.”
“Tch, never seen the world. The skills we get later are way beyond what they can even imagine” Han Chong couldn’t resist mocking.
Zhou Quan wasn’t about to put up with him. “If you’re so great, then why didn’t you pick first? Xihen and I aren’t even that familiar with you. When we’re talking, could you not try so hard to get our attention? It makes you look…”
He used to be wary of Han Chong because he was an ability user, and he had to carefully consider his words when retorting. But now that he was also an ability user, who was he afraid of? The worst-case scenario, they could just go outside and have a fight.
But it was best not to fight. He had only just learned his skill and hadn’t figured out how to use it yet.
“What did you choose?” Chu Xihen asked Lou Su.
He was the first to choose, so everyone else was also curious.
Lou Su said, “I didn’t choose a skill. I just awakened my wind element ability.”
Awakening an elemental ability only meant that you could use that element to attack. There were no specific skills. If you wanted to have powerful moves, you still had to learn a skill corresponding to the element and then gradually level it up to bring the power of the elemental ability to its fullest potential.
Lou Su had a special skill before the apocalypse. It wasn’t a problem that he awakened his wind element ability in the first instance.
“Mm, also very strong.” Chu Xihen complimented perfunctorily, then asked Su Yan.
Su Yan smiled. “I awakened my eyesight. The description says I might even develop ‘Thousand-Mile Vision’!”
She was actually very clear that her ability was useless. Awakening eyesight in this apocalyptic world, where life was constantly in danger, was just too impractical.
But she had performed the worst in the instance, and it was already great that she came out alive, not to mention the unexpected gain. She was genuinely happy.
“Evolved eyesight is great! Aren’t you learning to use a gun from Lou Su? With better eyesight, you’ll be able to hit the bullseye every time!” After all, Chu Xihen was personally certified by Lou Su as someone who could shoot arrows, so his words were very convincing.
Su Yan nodded in agreement. “That’s exactly what I was thinking. And we’ll still be entering instances in the future. Maybe I’ll get an even better ability next time!”
“Indeed, even the worst skill on our side is better than what some people got.” Han Chong started to be a jerk again.
Zhou Quan retorted sarcastically, “So, what skill did you get? Seeing how eager you are, I’ll give you a chance to show off!”
He had originally intended not to ask at all, to make Han Chong choke, but he really wanted to know what skill the other had gotten!
But Bai Jinli snatched the chance to speak, “Five people cleared the instance, so there are only five rewards. We know Brother Lou got the wind element ability, you got ‘Spinning Ball,’ Miss Su got evolved eyesight, so there are two left. I got the water element skill ‘Butterfly Transformation,’ so Han Chong got the metal element ability awakening.”
If someone else had said this, Han Chong would have already exploded, but when Bai Jinli said it, he even praised, “Jinli, your memory is really good. You remembered all five rewards.”
Bai Jinli smiled modestly. “Actually, I’m the one who got the good end of the deal. Brother Lou chose first; he should have taken my skill.”
“The water element skill is more suitable for you.” Lou Su stated the fact without emotion.
Even though he could have obtained the water element ability at the same time if he had taken the $$Butterfly Transformation] skill, he knew that someone in the team really needed it, so it wouldn’t have been right for him to take it.
If these were teammates he had temporarily met in an instance, he definitely wouldn’t have left this skill for someone else, but Bai Jinli wasn’t exactly familiar with them, but he had helped them, so giving him this skill can be considered a favor.
“Thank you, Brother Lou. If it weren’t for saving me, you wouldn’t have been injured, and you even gave me the skill card. I’m really grateful.” Bai Jinli felt he owed Lou Su too much. In the future, he would have to help Chu Xihen more to repay the favor.
Chu Xihen raised an eyebrow and glanced at the injury on Lou Su’s shoulder.
No wonder the protagonist’s halo wasn’t working. So, this was a little romance between the two male leads!
It was really annoying.
But then he heard Lou Su say, “I would have saved anyone else on the team. We entered as a team, and no one can be missing.”
Mainly, he was thinking at the time that if Chu Xihen entered an instance with strangers, it would be good if someone could lend a hand if he encountered danger.
Unexpectedly, not only did someone lend Chu Xihen a hand, they even guaranteed his passage.
Although the reward was a bit poor, there were many more instances in the future, and Chu Xihen would still have the opportunity to awaken an ability and obtain a suitable skill.
“In any case, I must thank you. As a return, if Xihen and I are assigned to the same instance next time, I will help you take care of him.” Bai Jinli said generously.
Lou Su didn’t like hearing that. He decisively refused, “No need. I won’t be separated from him in instances again in the future.”
If there were a lot of people, he could just take Chu Xihen to a deserted place and then enter the instance.
“Brother Lou is right. We weren’t fully prepared this time, and we didn’t know that a team could only have five people. Otherwise, Xihen wouldn’t have been separated from us.” Bai Jinli spoke as if he and Lou Su would never be separated.
That was indeed what he thought in his heart. If it were just a simple apocalypse, their goals would be different, and it would be normal for them to drift apart. But now that they needed a fixed team to enter instances, he believed that with his strength, Lou Su would be very happy to be bound to him.
“But if we all stay together like this, every time we enter an instance, there will always be two people who will be separated.” Zhou Quan was a little worried when he thought of this.
He couldn’t even imagine if he was the one who was separated in this first instance whether he would be able to come out.
Chu Xihen was blessed with good luck to be safe and sound, but after coming out, he got two useless discarded cards.
In contrast, Gao Lin awakened his ability but almost died after coming out of the instance.
If they couldn’t be with Lou Su next time, could they really survive?
“Jinli speculated that the first instance was definitely just an appetizer. The instance in seven days will be even harder. For the good of the team, of course, it’s a strong main team, and the trash can go out and fend for themselves!” Han Chong completely ignored what Lou Su had just said.
He felt that survival should be the first priority. If the instances became more and more difficult later, Lou Su himself might not be able to survive, let alone bring Chu Xihen, who was a burden. In that case, he might as well die now.
