Chapter 35: You Liar!
The medicine exchanged from the portable store was quite effective. As soon as the liquid was poured onto Zhou Quan’s leg, the corroded flesh began to regenerate.
Thankfully, the venom from the devil taro vines wasn’t infectious, or Zhou Quan would have been truly finished.
However, just watching the process was almost unbearable, let alone for Zhou Quan himself. He fainted several times from the pain, only to be jolted awake by the excruciating agony, back and forth, an endless torment.
Zhou Quan’s screams were so loud that the newly emerged vines began to lash out in their direction, with Lou Su single-handedly holding them off in the front.
“Let’s go help. You watch him,” Chu Xihen said to Gao Lin, seeing that they couldn’t do much by just waiting there.
Gao Lin carefully cradled Zhou Quan and nodded at Chu Xihen.
Su Yan only had a dagger, which was close-quarters combat, not at all suited to her abilities, but she still bravely stepped forward, showing no fear.
Chu Xihen took out his bow and arrows, firing several shots that relieved some of the pressure on Lou Su.
“The devil taro is coming out. Let’s get out of here! Run far, as far as possible!” Lou Su pulled Chu Xihen back.
He wanted to leave earlier, but he was entangled by the vines and couldn’t break free. But with Chu Xihen’s arrival, the vines were shot back by his arrows.
Bai Jinli and Han Chong, who were separated on the other side, also made a wide detour to join them.
The group began to flee for their lives.
Gao Lin couldn’t wait for Zhou Quan to recover, so he carried him on his back, following behind the others.
They could feel the ground shaking even after running a long distance, as the devil taro’s vines chased after them underground.
“How did such a huge devil taro suddenly emerge?” Han Chong asked as he ran.
But no one was in the mood to analyze the situation with him.
Suddenly, Lou Su, who was running in the front, stopped abruptly, and Bai Jinli, unable to brake in time, crashed into his back.
“What’s wrong? Why aren’t we running… Shit!” Han Chong couldn’t help but curse when he saw what was ahead.
In the forest ahead, a glittering array of green eyes shone, making it clear even without getting closer that it was a pack of wolves.
“What do we do? The devil taro is catching up,” Han Chong glanced behind him, terrified.
And it was so dark that they couldn’t tell if they were mutated wolves or ordinary ones.
Bai Jinli spoke up, “Lou-ge, how about you and I split up and lure the wolf pack away, let them continue forward, and then we shake off the wolves and meet up ahead?”
Among this group, he and Lou Su were the strongest, so it made sense for them to lure the wolves.
“Alright,” Lou Su agreed without hesitation. He and Bai Jinli stood on either side, then used their abilities to attack the wolf pack, before running off in opposite directions.
If they stood still, the wolf pack would also remain still. Now that there were two moving shadows, the wolf pack actually split into two groups and chased after them.
“Let’s go,” Chu Xihen said to Gao Lin.
Gao Lin nodded and ran forward with Zhou Quan on his back, with Su Yan walking behind him, using a flashlight to light the way.
Chu Xihen also had a flashlight in his hand, walking behind Su Yan. No one paid any attention to Han Chong, not caring whether or not he kept up.
Han Chong stood in place for a moment, then narrowed his eyes as he watched Chu Xihen’s back.
He had finally found an opportunity. Tonight was the night Chu Xihen would die!
“Chu Xihen, wait a minute. I saw some stray wolves chasing us. Stay here and help me block them,” Han Chong ran a few steps, catching up to them.
Hearing Han Chong’s words, Su Yan stopped, “I’ll go with you. Xihen hasn’t awakened his abilities, and his stamina might not be enough.”
“No need. You should stay with Gao Lin and take care of Zhou Quan,” Han Chong said, looking at Chu Xihen, who had stopped. “What’s wrong, Chu Xihen? Are you really going to let a little girl stand up for you?”
“Okay,” Chu Xihen agreed without hesitation.
Su Yan wanted to argue, but Chu Xihen said to her, “It’s okay. You and Gao Lin go ahead. Keep going straight. If we don’t catch up in ten minutes, leave a mark on a tree.”
“Okay,” Su Yan listened to Chu Xihen.
This made Han Chong contemptuous. Someone who could be ordered around by Chu Xihen, what could they possibly achieve? Sooner or later, they would die in the mouths of the异种 (yìzhǒng, mutated creatures)!
“Be careful,” Gao Lin said to Chu Xihen.
After speaking, he walked away with Zhou Quan on his back, without even looking at Han Chong.
One after another, Han Chong’s expression twisted with anger.
Once he dealt with Chu Xihen and came back, he would create some accidents and send these three useless things to the afterlife!
“Where are the wolves? Take me there,” Chu Xihen said, his face expressionless and his tone calm.
In the darkness, Han Chong had a look of triumph, “They’re behind us. Just follow me.”
Then Chu Xihen followed Han Chong to the side, walking for five minutes without stopping.
They hadn’t run this far since separating from Lou Su and the others.
But Chu Xihen didn’t ask, and Han Chong didn’t stop. He wanted to kill him further away, so that Lou Su wouldn’t even be able to find the body.
As he walked, Han Chong cursed Chu Xihen in his heart for being stupid, following him for so long without finding it strange. People like this deserved to be scammed to death.
After walking for a few more minutes, they were almost at the other side of the forest. Han Chong finally stopped, worried that he would be seen in the open field outside the forest.
After all, this was the apocalypse, where mutated creatures roamed, and it was normal to encounter people in the wilderness late at night.
“Looks like those few wolves ran far away,” Han Chong said, shining the flashlight on Chu Xihen’s face, full of contempt.
Chu Xihen was blinded by the light, but he didn’t even blink. His expression didn’t change at all, and there wasn’t a trace of warmth in his eyes.
This was completely different from the weak and useless Chu Xihen that Han Chong remembered.
Chu Xihen’s composure instantly made him feel inferior.
Realizing this, Han Chong felt embarrassed and immediately raised the flashlight to smash it on Chu Xihen’s face.
Chu Xihen raised his hand and grabbed his wrist. “Han Chong, do you really think I’m stupid? I’m just too lazy to bother, but you guys insist on courting death.”
Han Chong, an ability user who had awakened his strength, and even activated his metal ability in the(fùběn, instance dungeon), couldn’t move his hand at all when Chu Xihen grabbed it.
Chu Xihen’s strength was actually greater than his?
How was that possible? Chu Xihen clearly didn’t have any abilities and looked weak!
Unless…
“You… Wan Ming, you really killed him? You’ve been lying to us all along?” After figuring this out, Han Chong didn’t know whether to be angry or terrified.
“I haven’t lied to anyone,” Chu Xihen said.
He never said he was useless, but people always judged by appearances, and he didn’t bother to explain.
“You’re a damn liar! I’ll kill you!” Han Chong activated his ability with his other hand, turning his fingers into five sharp steel needles and stabbing towards Chu Xihen’s head.
Chu Xihen tilted his head slightly to dodge, and struck Han Chong’s elbow with the flashlight in his right hand.
Han Chong’s arm went numb, and Chu Xihen took the opportunity to grab his wrist and twist it in front of him, sending the five sharp steel needles into Han Chong’s own neck.
“You… hehe… lie…” Han Chong didn’t finish a sentence before he died.
Chu Xihen released him, letting his body fall into the dry grass, which was still not scorched by the sun, hidden by the trees.
Then he raised his head and looked at the branch of a tree in front of him, where an owl was standing.
He raised his hand, drew his bow, and shot an arrow through the owl’s head.
At the same time, by the river outside the forest, a teenager sitting by a campfire suddenly clutched his eyes and screamed in agony…
