Chapter 22 – Property Transfer and Severing Ties
Beijing, Housing Authority Office.
Song Kexing walked in, carrying all the documents and property deeds, and explained her intent.
The staff member glanced over the materials and frowned.
“Miss, where’s your father? If he wants to transfer the properties to your name, why isn’t he here in person?”
Song Kexing bit her lip, a bit embarrassed.
“My dad… he abandoned me and left with my stepmother and younger brother. I don’t even know where they are now.
I want to transfer these houses to my name so I can lease them out to the neighborhood office for free. I just want to do something good for the country.”
Upon hearing that, a flash of sympathy crossed the staff member’s eyes.
No wonder—just from looking at all these properties, it was obvious the family was rich.
Seems like the family fell apart, the adults fled, and left the unloved child behind.
Probably the stepmother sowed discord, and with the father gone, it was as if she had none. What a tragedy.
“Miss, you’ve gone through so much and still have such a kind heart. You must look forward, alright?
Tough it out—things might just turn around.”
The staff member sighed sincerely and proceeded with the paperwork efficiently.
It didn’t take long before all the property deeds had been updated with her name.
Holding the brand-new household registration book, Song Kexing gave the man a sweet smile.
“Uncle, you’re right. I need to look forward and cut off all the mess from the past.
I’ve decided—I’m going to the newspaper right now to publicly sever ties with my father and stepmother!”
The staff member was momentarily stunned as the girl turned and walked away with confidence.
In that moment, he felt deeply moved, an unexpected sense of pride rising in his chest.
…
Song Kexing headed straight to the local People’s Daily office.
“Miss, how can I help you?”
A middle-aged female staff member warmly greeted her.
Song Kexing replied, “Hello, I want to publish a statement. It needs to appear on all major front pages by tomorrow evening. Could you let me know how much it would cost?”
The woman raised an eyebrow in curiosity. “May I ask what kind of statement it is?”
“I want to publicly sever ties with my parents.”
The woman immediately perked up, clearly interested. “Miss, please—tell me everything…”
Half an hour later, after hearing the full story about the scummy father and stepmother, the woman was seething.
She grabbed Song Kexing’s hand and promised firmly:
“Sister, don’t you worry! I’ll write this severance statement for you myself. I’ll make sure the whole world sees the ugliness of your so-called family!”
Song Kexing smiled faintly. “Then I’ll trouble you, sister.”
The woman was clearly experienced and skilled.
In less than 20 minutes, she had written a highly satisfactory statement.
After settling the price and payment, Song Kexing left with peace of mind.
…
Next, Song Kexing went to the neighborhood office.
There were 10 properties she had just transferred from her scumbag father Song Chengye.
Seven were traditional courtyard homes. Among them, two were five-entry courtyards located in Wangfujing.
Each of those two alone was over 6,000 square meters in size, and in the future, they’d be worth tens of billions.
The rest included two four-entry courtyards, two three-entry ones, and one two-entry courtyard—all in prime locations.
There was also one Western-style house, which was where her family currently resided.
Finally, there were two rural mountain plots.
The two forested hills were next to each other, covering roughly 300 mu (20 hectares, or 200,000 square meters).
Song Kexing found the person in charge and explained the situation.
Upon hearing that she wanted to lease all her family’s properties to the neighborhood office for free, the person in charge was stunned.
“Miss, is something wrong at home? Do you need assistance?”
Song Kexing’s acting kicked in instantly. With teary eyes, she repeated her earlier story.
Then she declared with firm resolve, “Even if my biological father fled like a coward, I won’t stoop to his shamelessness.
To show my patriotism, I’ve already publicly severed my ties with him in the papers. I also wish to donate all my family’s real estate to the neighborhood office for free use for the next seven years.”
It was currently 1970—seven years later would be 1977.
That was the year the college entrance exam would reopen and the country would start loosening up. The timing was perfect.
Her grand, righteous words struck the heart of the official.
“Good child, on behalf of the people, thank you. With a heart like yours, you will never be forgotten.
How about this—to honor your contribution, we’ll present you with a silk banner and help promote your story. This way, life will be easier for you in the future.”
These were no empty words.
Once the neighborhood office stepped in, no one would dare to cause her trouble anymore.
“Thank you, Director,” Song Kexing replied with a sincere smile.
In any case, this was a welcome surprise.
Very quickly, the two parties signed a free lease agreement.
The rental period would begin in one week.
Three copies of the contract were made—one for Song Kexing, one for the neighborhood office, and one filed with the police department.
She emphasized one condition: these properties were to be used only for public office spaces, not for personal residence.
Also, during the seven-year lease, any maintenance costs would be covered by the neighborhood office.
The person in charge readily agreed.
There had been a shortage of office space recently, and now they had a sudden surplus. He couldn’t be happier.
Plus, leadership had been discussing the need for a logging site. Those two forested plots could perfectly solve their urgent problem. Surely, he’d be rewarded.
With that thought, the official’s mood lifted. He immediately arranged for the creation of a ceremonial banner.
Soon, a bright red silk banner was delivered.
On it were eight large golden characters: 【Selfless and Noble, Admirable and Respectable】.
It was high praise for her selfless contribution and a call for others to follow her example.
Song Kexing was very pleased with the banner.
It was like receiving another “get-out-of-jail-free” card.
How wonderful!
…
After leaving the neighborhood office, Song Kexing made a stop at the post office.
She mailed an anonymous report letter.
Then she returned to the Song household and unlocked the basement door, tossing in a few steamed buns and a jug of water.
Everything was ready. It was time to wrap things up.
That family of three needed food in their bellies to endure the upcoming blow. Otherwise, the show wouldn’t be as entertaining.
Inside the basement, when the three Song family members saw the steamed buns on the ground…
They pounced like starving dogs, stuffing the food into their mouths as fast as they could.
Once they devoured the buns and water, they noticed the basement door was open.
Song Chengye’s eyes lit up as he checked his watch—it was already 6 PM.
He had arranged to meet a friend at a warehouse in the suburbs at 9 PM.
If he didn’t show, his friend would come looking at the house.
Now that they could escape, of course they had to act fast and leave before they were discovered.
“That unfilial girl must’ve forgotten to close the door. Quick, let’s get out of here before she finds out!”
The three supported each other and fled in a hurry—
None of them noticed that a figure was silently following behind them…
