Chapter 32: Song Kexing Makes Her Move
Next came the discussion on which hostage should be released.
The robbers currently held three hostages: Song Tian, an elderly woman, and a female train attendant.
Song Tian was the youngest and looked as delicate as a flower bud.
Even though she was taken hostage, she didn’t seem too frightened—her face merely pale as wallpaper.
Song Kexing knew the heroine appeared tough on the outside, but she was likely crying her heart out inside by now.
Maruko was anxiously pacing beside her, urging:
【Boss, think of a way to save the heroine! If she dies, our mission fails!】
【Don’t rush. Wait a little longer.】
Song Kexing wanted to save her too. But the problem was, the carriage was too crowded—there was no room to act.
If she irritated the robbers and they lashed out at the others, things would get ugly fast.
Though Song Kexing was cold by nature, she couldn’t bear to let others die because of her.
Besides, she remembered this scene in the novel.
However, back then she wasn’t in it, and the elderly woman didn’t make a fuss either.
The robbers hadn’t been drawn to this carriage—instead, they had taken hostages in another, which eventually led to one death and one injury before the criminals were caught.
In the novel, this entire event was only briefly mentioned in a few lines during the main couple’s later recollections.
Now, because of her presence, everything had changed.
So regardless of whether it was for the mission or not, Song Tian had to be saved!
At that moment, Han Che was also beside himself with worry.
Song Tian had joined this countryside trip because of him—if something happened to her, he would be consumed with guilt.
He was the child of a military family, raised in the army since young, and his martial skills were decent.
But he shared the same concern as Song Kexing—he didn’t dare act rashly.
The second hostage was the elderly woman.
Ever since wetting her pants and getting punched, she’d been terrified.
Now hearing that one hostage could be released, she immediately shouted:
“Isn’t it obvious? I’m the oldest here! You must choose me!”
Initially, the train police had indeed considered choosing her. But now, seeing her entitled attitude, they were speechless.
The third hostage, the female train attendant, spoke with tearful eyes:
“Comrade train police, I have a two-month-old baby at home. If I die, my child will be left all alone… sob sob…”
Her words brought tears to many eyes.
Someone chimed in, “Comrade train police, let the attendant go first. A child losing their mother is truly tragic.”
Hearing this, the elderly woman got upset.
“Bullshit! Her kid would be pitiful, but my son losing me would be just as miserable!”
Even the robbers laughed, “Old hag, half your body’s already in the grave, and you’re still this scared to die? What a joke.”
The head robber lost his patience. “Hey, have you decided yet? Who are you letting go?!”
The train police had actually finished discussing it.
The veteran officer stepped forward and said, “Release the train attendant first.”
The female attendant’s face lit up with joy, and the blade at her neck was finally removed.
She scrambled over to the train police as fast as she could.
The elderly woman burst into tears. “Why didn’t you choose me?! You’re all bullies! If I die, I’ll come back to haunt you…”
“Shut up! So noisy!”
A robber slapped her across the face, silencing her instantly.
This time, the surrounding passengers didn’t feel sympathy—only satisfaction.
Still, it was unfortunate for that beautiful young attendant. With the train so chaotic upon arrival, who knew what might happen next?
The train police were aware of this and quickly began relocating the passengers in this carriage to others.
Everyone feared being caught up in it, so they followed orders and quickly evacuated.
In an instant, the carriage emptied out.
Only Song Kexing and Han Che remained in their seats.
Han Che was a little surprised—he hadn’t expected Song Kexing to stay put as well.
“I suggest you leave now, before something unexpected happens.”
To be fair, the male lead of this novel had a decent personality.
Though Song Kexing had snapped at him several times, he didn’t hold a grudge and even offered her a reminder.
Song Kexing looked up and replied calmly, “Thank you.”
He was a good person—just a bit dumb, getting played like a fiddle by the supporting female characters.
Han Che was stunned by the unexpected “thank you.”
Was this girl crazy? Couldn’t she see how dangerous the situation was?
Not far off, Yan Chen and the chubby guy also hadn’t moved.
Now, only the four of them remained in the carriage; everyone else had been cleared out.
A train policeman standing at the carriage junction called out loudly:
“Comrades! Stop spectating! Hurry up and leave!”
He must have thought they were just curious onlookers.
“Woo—woo—woo—”
Just then, the train let out a sharp whistle—signaling it was about to arrive at the station.
Damn!
The train police all showed a flash of panic.
The earlier hostage discussion and crowd dispersal had taken too long—they hadn’t expected to reach the station so soon.
And these weren’t ordinary robbers.
Just recently, a freight train carrying tens of thousands of kilograms of grain mysteriously lost its cargo.
After extensive investigation, the police had confirmed this criminal gang’s involvement and immediately launched a manhunt.
The gang was crafty, splitting into small teams to escape.
Some fled into the mountains, others by water, while one group took a unique route—hiding aboard this passenger train.
The first two groups had already been caught—this last one was the group on the train.
They had been clever, posing as passengers and blending in. No one suspected a thing.
Had it not been for a tip-off after the train departed, the police wouldn’t even have known criminals were on board.
Orders from higher up were clear: capture the robbers and bring them to justice.
More importantly, they were told:
To prevent the robbers from harming anyone else, do not let them escape, even if it means injury—intercept them and await reinforcements.
So… the police hadn’t arranged any getaway vehicle for the robbers!
Now, the train was nearing the station. Reinforcements hadn’t arrived yet, and the robbers still held two hostages, with other passengers still inside.
“You four! Why are you still here? Get to another carriage! What are you dawdling for? Go!”
The old train cop was so anxious his voice cracked as he shouted at Song Kexing and the others to leave.
Song Kexing slowly stood up, and Han Che followed suit.
“Hold it!” The head robber suddenly sensed something was off. He turned to one of his men and barked, “Go grab that short one with the hat!”
Short one with the hat??
Song Kexing’s mouth twitched slightly. Were they talking about her?
Perfect. She had been wondering how to get close—well, here was her chance.
Han Che pressed his lips together tightly, clearly hesitant but said nothing.
“Wait a minute!”
Suddenly, a slightly chubby young man stood up from behind them.
He had a round face, rosy cheeks, and his eyes were gleaming with a smile.
“If you’re looking for a hostage, why not take me? I’ve never experienced what it’s like to be kidnapped!”
“Hey! Look at this idiot volunteering to be a hostage!”
One of the robbers sneered and was about to move toward him.
The head robber quickly stopped him. “Don’t! Be careful—might be a trick!”
And right at that moment—
Song Kexing moved!
