Chapter 14
The two walked shoulder to shoulder, like a close couple, towards Jiang Yuchi’s brother and sister.
The two figures gradually approached each other, the man was handsome and the woman was beautiful, as if they were a match made in heaven.
Sheng Huan took his arm, looked sideways at him, a faint smile on her lips, when Shen Beichuan did what she wanted, he was not annoying at all.
Jiang Yuchi stood quietly not far away, his eyes following the figures of the two people. A slight emotion flashed in his eyes, like loss and helplessness.
But soon, he hid this emotion deep in his heart and returned to his previous calm and composed self.
His eyes were slightly deep, and through the scene before him, he seemed to see a future that was beyond his reach.
“Brother, Sheng Huan and the others seem to be a perfect match and they look very loving.” Jiang Dandan’s voice came softly, with a hint of emotion and envy in her tone.
She looked at the perfect couple intently, feeling vaguely that this outcome might be the best arrangement.
In the 21st century, they were just engaged, but now, in this time and space, they have already become a legal couple.
But Jiang Dandan felt sorry for Jiang Yuchi. They had been in love for four years. If the original owner was still alive, they would definitely grow old together. It was a pity that they met Sheng Huan, a man with a unique personality.
Sheng Huan was born into a military family and his family was also engaged in business. He was influenced by his family since he was a child and had both the decisiveness of a soldier and the calculation of a businessman.
Jiang Dandan thought that Sheng Huan would definitely not follow the path that the original owner was going to take – spending the rest of his life with Jiang Yuchi.
She was certain that Sheng Huan would reject Jiang Yuchi and use Shen Beichuan.
Jiang Yuchi nodded slightly and responded in a faint voice: “Yeah.” Without saying anything else.
Every word seemed to have been carefully weighed by him, neither more nor less, just like his usual calmness and restraint.
He was not willing to reveal his feelings too much, but in that faint smile, one could still see a hint of reluctance hidden deep in his heart.
Jiang Dandan saw what Jiang Yuchi was thinking and pursed her lips, “Brother, you are just too forbearing. Why don’t you just say it directly and tell her that you can’t leave her and want to take her to Guanghai!”
Although she knew Sheng Huan would refuse, Jiang Dandan still wanted Jiang Yuchi to try, just in case she agreed!
“You know, I will only listen to her and not force her.” Jiang Yuchi said tenderly, his expression as calm as water, without any emotional fluctuations.
“…” Jiang Dandan felt sorry for Jiang Yuchi for three seconds. Where could she find such a good man!
Jiang Yuchi watched Sheng Huan and Shen Beichuan approach, then greeted them with a polite smile.
“You must be Sheng Huan’s husband, Shen Beichuan, Captain Shen, nice to meet you. I’m Jiang Yuchi, Sheng Huan’s friend.”
Jiang Yuchi spoke in a gentle tone, but his eyes were still deep, as if there were unrevealed thoughts hidden beneath the calm surface of a lake.
Especially the words “Sheng Huan’s friend”, which were like a light dagger, gently cutting through Sheng Huan’s heart.
The original owner’s emotions were so deeply rooted that her heart felt like it was being pressed down by a huge rock, and her originally relaxed mood suddenly became heavy.
Her fox eyes narrowed slightly and glanced at Shen Beichuan, with some complicated emotions hidden in her eyes. At this moment, her eyes felt a little sour for some reason.
Shen Beichuan was as calm and composed as usual, with no extra expression on his resolute face, but his politeness remained graceful.
He nodded, stretched out his hand and shook hands with Jiang Yuchi: “Shen Beichuan, Doctor Jiang, nice to meet you.”
Shen Beichuan and Jiang Yuchi held hands together. On the surface, they were polite, but in fact, there were undercurrents hidden in the handshake etiquette.
Shen Beichuan smiled slightly, his mouth corners raised, but a hint of coldness flashed in his eyes. As his smile emerged, his hands quietly added some strength.
The man remained humble and polite on the surface, but the power contained in his palms was like an undercurrent, gradually approaching, trying to declare some unshakable position through this handshake.
Jiang Yuchi felt the opponent’s strength, his eyes sank slightly, but his smile did not diminish, and he was unwilling to show weakness in this “silent war”. The stubbornness deep in his heart prompted him to shake back, and his fingers gradually exerted force, as if responding to Shen Beichuan’s challenge.
Although Jiang Yuchi’s movements were gentle and seemingly harmless, they were secretly filled with a bit of temptation and competition.
Shen Beichuan’s eyes shone, and Jiang Yuchi’s palm suddenly felt the increasingly strong pressure. His smile gradually became a little stiff, and a trace of pain that was difficult to hide appeared on his face.
Although Jiang Yuchi tried his best to maintain his composure, he knew in his heart that he was ultimately not as strong as Shen Beichuan – this soldier clearly had an absolute advantage in this contest.
Sheng Huan, who was standing nearby, keenly caught the undercurrent in this handshake. She pulled Shen Beichuan’s arm seemingly inadvertently, breaking the deadlock:
“Brother Beichuan, how about calling Qin Chaoyang tonight so we can have dinner together? Hmm!?”
Sheng Huan’s voice carried a hint of coquettish ease, trying to overcome the hardness with softness and steer the tense atmosphere in a gentle direction.
Shen Beichuan raised his sword-like eyebrows slightly, and after a brief pause, he finally let go of Jiang Yuchi’s hand.
His expression remained calm and decent, with a polite smile on his lips, as if nothing had happened, as if everything that had just happened was just a normal greeting.
He nodded gently, his tone steady:
“Of course, it would be wrong not to have a meal with my friends from Shanghai who have come all the way here.”
He still seemed indifferent when he spoke, but that cold edge had not completely faded.
He turned to Jiang Yuchi, his voice steady and meaningful, “It’s just right, I’ll ask Dr. Jiang to experience our ‘military food’, it’s absolutely authentic.”
Jiang Yuchi put his sore hands behind his back. Although he suffered a temporary disadvantage in the handshake contest, he still had a graceful smile on his face, as if the contest just now had never happened.
He responded calmly, “Then I’ll have to trouble Captain Chen. Military food sounds quite unique. I’ve never experienced it before. I’m looking forward to it.”
Shen Beichuan raised his wrist and looked at his watch. His tone was still gentle, but it revealed a hint of unwillingness to refuse:
“In that case, it’s settled. The dinner time is neither too early nor too late, six o’clock sharp, just in time for the ‘big pot meal’ in our military district cafeteria.”
Jiang Yuchi chuckled and nodded, “Then I’d like to experience it. It sounds very interesting.”
At this time, Jiang Dandan, who was standing nearby, immediately came forward excitedly upon hearing the word “eat”, with a strong sense of curiosity and expectation in her tone:
“Big pot meal? I’d really like to experience it! It should be much better than when we went to the farm, right?”
Sheng Huan was amused by her sudden interruption, a hint of helpless smile flashed in his eyes, he turned his head to look at her, and responded with a smile: “Of course it’s much better, at least it’s enough to fill your stomach.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she gave Jiang Dandan a subtle look and blinked gently, signaling her to stop talking.
Jiang Dandan understood and immediately shut up and stood back next to Jiang Yuchi.
Sheng Huan casually introduced her to Shen Beichuan, and after the two exchanged pleasantries, they headed towards the cafeteria.
In the evening, the canteen was steaming hot, and a large pot of rice and side dishes had been served on the table.
Shen Beichuan was obviously well prepared, and specially asked the kitchen to add a few “hard dishes”, which made people’s appetite just by looking at them.
When Sheng Huan saw it, her fox eyes narrowed slightly. Those “hard dishes” were the meat dishes she packed back from the city.
The cafeteria didn’t serve meat today, and she happened to pack some meat, so Shen Beichuan asked the cafeteria chef to heat it up to entertain the Jiang brothers and sisters.
“Captain Shen is so polite. This doesn’t look like a big pot meal, but more like a ‘special supply’ from the military district.” Jiang Yuchi picked up his chopsticks and said meaningfully.
