After leaving the private hospital, Li Yanci sat in the car, idly turning over the phone Feiyan had smashed in his hand. He mulled over the examination results, utterly baffled.
“Master Li, shall I have your phone repaired for you?” Xi Lin, noticing how intently his boss was staring at the broken device, assumed it contained important files.
“Quiet. I’m thinking.”
Did Li Yanci—a man of wealth and power—really need to repair a broken phone? That was a joke of hellish proportions!
Xi Lin: ” Understood, Young Master Li.”
Fine. He’d shut up.
Finally accepting the facts, Li Yanci frowned, his sharp brows knitting together. “So… I was never drugged?”
The medical examination had shown nothing in his system except his usual sleep disorder. There wasn’t a trace of any sedative.
Seated in the driver’s seat, Xi Lin replied, “Yes, Master Li. After thorough investigation, Miss Feiyan merely entered your room by mistake. There were no other suspicious women before or after the incident, and no evidence you were drugged beforehand. Last night was truly just a misunderstanding.”
No one had targeted Master Li.
From start to finish, the only victim had been Miss Feiyan.
Li Yanci pressed his lips together, deep in thought, then turned to Xi Lin. “Since I wasn’t drugged, tell me—why was I so obsessed with that woman’s body last night?”
If it wasn’t the influence of drugs, why had he been so insatiable?
He had always kept his distance from women. Those who schemed to climb into his bed had all been dealt with mercilessly.
“…Ahem…” Xi Lin, who had just unscrewed a bottle of water to take a sip, nearly choked. After a moment’s consideration, he ventured, “Master Li, have you considered… that you might have genuinely been captivated by that young lady’s body?”
So, he had indulged himself all night—poor Miss Feiyan.
Having followed Li Yanci for years, Xi Lin knew his master’s temperament: domineering, imperious, and uncompromising. Whatever Li Yanci wanted; he obtained by any means necessary.
That same unbridled intensity applied in bed… It wasn’t hard to imagine how wild the night had been. Miss Feiyan had probably suffered quite the ordeal.
Rather than taking offense, Li Yanci seemed increasingly intrigued. “That just proves we’re naturally compatible. I want her to be mine.”
Xi Lin cautiously reminded him, “Master Li, you’re already engaged.”
Li Yanci’s brow furrowed. “The Ning family? That was just a childhood betrothal arranged by Grandfather. This isn’t the old society—who still follows those outdated customs?”
“Besides, I have zero interest in that Ning family girl. Why should I follow some outdated feudal custom?”
“But Master Li, you know exactly what the Ning family represents—and why the old master arranged this marriage in the first place. Surely you haven’t forgotten the reason.”
“And I resent being constantly reminded of it.” Li Yanci narrowed his eyes at Xi Lin. “Xi Lin, you’ve grown bold.”
Noticing the faint red handprint still visible on his master’s cheek—courtesy of that slap—Xi Lin wisely changed the subject. “Master Li, what if Miss Feiyan refuses?”
A woman daring enough to strike the Young Master Li wouldn’t likely submit without a fight.
“She will.” Li Yanci confidently answered.
Li Yanci smirked, his gaze fixed on the woman being dragged into a van up ahead. He tilted his chin toward Xi Lin. “Look.”
Xi Lin followed his line of sight and saw the woman from last night—Feiyan—being hauled into the vehicle by two men in black. The van sped off moments later.
“Follow them.”
“Yes, sir.” Xi Lin maintained a steady distance as he trailed the van. Glancing at his master’s determined expression in the rearview mirror, he hesitated. “Master Li, those men… weren’t arranged by you, were they?”
Li Yanci shot him a disdainful look through the mirror. “Have I left your sight? Besides, do I look that underhanded to you?”
“Right, of course, Young Master Li.”
Xi Lin wisely kept his mouth shut. After all, he wasn’t Li Yanci’s only confidant—who knew if others had been sent to stage this little drama? As for whether his master was underhanded… Well, that wasn’t a question he dared answer.
As the van veered into the suburban outskirts, Xi Lin couldn’t help but ask, “Master Li, are you really planning to risk yourself for Miss Feiyan?”
“A few thugs don’t count as ‘risk.’ ” Li Yanci scoffed, then smirked. “But for her, this will be nothing short of a heroic rescue.”
“There’s an old saying in Zhongzhou—’A beauty bows to her hero.'”
The memory of that slender waist trembling beneath him last night flashed through his mind, and Li Yanci suddenly chuckled. “Once I swoop in to save her, do you think the beauty will bow to her hero?”
“Let’s hope she appreciates a grand gesture, Master Li.” Xi Lin had nothing left to say. He could only hope his master’s heroic act would indeed win the lady’s favor.
