The Charming Foolish Doctor of the Countryside Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Obtaining the Medicine Immortal Space

One evening in May, inside the cremation room of the Southern Metropolis Funeral Home, lay the body of a beautiful young woman awaiting incineration. Her name was Kuang Dongxiu, from the prestigious Kuang family of the Southern Metropolis. She was stunningly beautiful in life, but also notoriously vicious—born with a venomous heart, arrogant and willful, a true scourge to others. Her sudden death at the age of twenty-two was seen by many as karma.

An old crematorium worker, after confirming her identity, began pushing her toward the furnace.

Thud!

Suddenly, with a muffled sound, the old worker fell to the ground. A dark figure had appeared from who-knows-where. It was a young man. He pulled back the white cloth covering the body and gently held Kuang Dongxiu’s delicate hand, visibly shaken.

“A strange thing… an unbelievably strange thing! This demoness was perfectly fine—how could she just die like that? It doesn’t make sense!”

“Since we’ve met before, I, Young Master Ding, will risk being jailed for corpse desecration if it means uncovering the truth of her death. That way, she can rest in peace!”

With those words, the young man lifted her by the waist, threw her over his shoulder, and dashed out of the crematorium as fast as he could.

Huff, huff!

After hiding the beautiful corpse for half an hour and confirming no one was pursuing him, the young man pushed her through a hole in the wall meant for dogs and then slipped through himself. Just as he was about to carry the body back for examination, he froze in shock. Under the bright moonlight, the cold, lifeless woman suddenly sat up!

Yes, he wasn’t seeing things—the corpse sat up, her large eyes blinking rapidly, and she even spoke:

“Ding Laosan, is that really you?!”

“Ahh! A ghost! A female ghost!!”

At the time, Ding Laosan was just in his twenties. A nobody with a barely surviving clinic that had been open for only half a year. Due to poor medical skills, his prescriptions either severely worsened his patients’ conditions or outright killed them! Not only had he made no money, but he’d had to compensate the families of the deceased hundreds of thousands of yuan!

In one particularly outrageous case, he treated a gynecological issue for a young woman from the wealthy Gan family. She felt she had been taken advantage of and sued him.

If not for his widowed mother back home begging and borrowing money everywhere to pay off his debts and clean up his messes, he’d probably be in jail by now.

This time, Ding Laosan had taken a huge risk sneaking into the crematorium to investigate Kuang Dongxiu’s cause of death, hoping it would be his last-ditch chance at salvation. If he succeeded, maybe the Kuang family would reward him or even take him under their wing. That would be amazing!

“AHH!”

Ding Laosan screamed, turned on his heel, and ran faster than a rabbit.

“Brother Song, I’m not a ghost! I’m your assistant Dongxiu from ten years in the future—I’m Dongxiu!”

Ding Laosan turned his head and nearly fainted. The “ghost” was chasing him even faster than he was running, catching up in mere seconds.

But soon, Ding Laosan let out a confused “Huh?” After confirming the ghost wasn’t out for revenge, he braced himself and said:

“Miss Kuang, this is a misunderstanding—I don’t have any… weird fetishes. I’m an ally, an ally! My only goal is to clear your name, that’s it!”

The woman—still dressed in funeral clothes—was incredibly emotional. She threw herself at him and said:

“Brother Song, I’m your assistant from ten years in the future. My name is Dongxiu. I was murdered, and my soul ended up in Kuang Dongxiu’s body. Believe me—I’m not lying. I was reborn!”

“My God, destiny—it’s unbreakable fate! Even my rebirth was thanks to you. If you hadn’t stolen Kuang Dongxiu’s corpse and bought me that extra half-hour, I’d be completely dead now. Look, here—this is a Soul Suppression Talisman!”

She then tore open her funeral clothes, revealing that her chest and back were covered in yellow talismans!

Ding Laosan shone his flashlight and was utterly shocked:

“Good lord, I get it now! You’re a soul from ten years in the future, with the same name as Kuang Dongxiu. Your soul got trapped in her body. If you’d gone into that cremation furnace, you’d have been burned to ashes along with it. But I just happened to show up and rescued her, and also saved you. So, you’re not a vengeful ghost. Right—that must be it!”

“Brother Song, you’re the smartest! I’m so glad! It’s so creepy out here in the wild—I’m terrified. Please take me home. Hurry, take me home!”

An hour later, Ding Laosan returned to Apricot Tree Street in the Southern Metropolis, bringing with him the miraculously revived Kuang Dongxiu.

“Brother Song, this… this is your whole clinic?”

Ding Laosan’s clinic was barely more than ten square meters. The street it was on bordered the outskirts of town and was quite remote, with very little foot traffic to begin with. To make matters worse, he had just killed a patient and earned himself a notorious reputation as the “deadly quack.” Everyone in the city knew his name, and no one dared to come see him. Thus, poor quack doctor Ding Laosan was so broke that his pockets were emptier than his face. He had fallen behind on rent to his female landlord for three months, owing more than ten thousand yuan.

Thinking about how he couldn’t pay the rent, Ding Laosan’s head ached badly. Thinking about the huge debt of over three hundred thousand yuan he owed to his family back home, his head ached even more!

“Dongxiu, you owe me your life, so don’t be ungrateful. I’m a famous doctor on Apricot Tree Street — famous! Every day, my patients line up in long queues, you know?” The down-and-out rookie quack rolled his eyes dramatically as he said this.

“I’m not, I’m not ungrateful. I was reborn. I could’ve gone back to the Kuang family and lived as their wealthy daughter. But I won’t. I want to stay here and be your little assistant like I was ten years from now!”

“What did you say? The Kuang family?”

Hearing that, Ding Laosan slapped his thigh and perked up, saying enthusiastically, “Even though you’ve been reborn, I have an immature suggestion: remember, you’re not anyone’s assistant. You’re the noble young lady Kuang Dongxiu of the Kuang family! You must immediately—right now—go back to the Kuang family! That’s how it’ll be!”

The moment she heard she had to become a noble lady of the Kuang family again, she acted as if she was scared stiff, clinging tightly to Ding Laosan and whining, “Are you abandoning me? If I leave, who will take care of you? What will you do? I don’t want to be a rich lady. I only recognize you—I’ll follow you!”

“You’re so silly, so silly. You’re throwing away being the Kuang family’s daughter to be an assistant to a quack who kills patients. Tell me, are you trying to seduce me? I may be poor, but I’m a virgin, you little tramp—don’t even think about it!”

Ding Laosan thought to himself, Hmph, does he think I’m a fool? Who would believe you’re really reborn from ten years in the future? You’re just a pretty liar! Trying to trick me out of my virginity? No way!

Besides, am I the type to suck up to rich ladies and be their lackey just to mooch off them? No, impossible!

With that decided, Ding Laosan gave a loud shout and kicked the reborn Kuang Dongxiu out!

Late at night, when the street was quiet, Ding Laosan quietly opened the small door to his clinic and hopped inside. Turning on the light, he screamed in shock—there were two people sitting on the worn-out fake leather sofa inside. None other than the landlord couple of the clinic.

The male landlord’s surname was Liu, known as “Liu the Tiger.” He was hot-tempered and a heavy drinker. The female landlord was Wen Jiahui—gentle, beautiful, voluptuous, and a mature woman with captivating peach blossom eyes.

Ding Laosan immediately got distracted by her, unable to stop fantasizing.

Swallowing a gulp, the rookie quack stepped forward and said, “Brother Liu, Sister Wen, I will definitely pay back the over ten thousand yuan in rent I owe you. I’m not bluffing—I just got a very wealthy and beautiful patient, yes, you heard right, she’s the Kuang family’s young lady Kuang Dongxiu! I’m going to have money soon, I just need a few more days!”

“Heh heh, heh heh heh, ha ha!”

Liu the Tiger laughed mockingly, came forward, rummaged through Ding Laosan’s pockets (emptier than his face), and mocked even louder, “Dead quack, broke nobody, you’re full of hot air. You killed someone and still have the nerve to lie to me? Do I look that stupid? Do you think the name ‘Tiger’ is for show? Get back to your village! Pack your stuff and scram!”

At this, Wen Jiahui pulled Liu the Tiger’s sleeve, feeling sorry, “Come on, he just owes some rent—why do you want to hit him?”

“To this quack who kills people, what I did was light!”

“Liu the Tiger, kicking me out is your huge loss. One day you’ll be begging on your knees for me, just you wait!”

Ding Laosan took a solid kick to his gut from Liu the Tiger and rolled several times outside the clinic door. Getting up and brushing off the dust, he still maintained a resolute attitude.

“Beg you? I’ll beg you? Go home and bring your mom here to be my nanny for three years. That’ll cover your rent, got it?”

Liu the Tiger pointed at Ding Laosan’s nose and yelled angrily, then cursed as he finally left.

Ding Laosan limped back into the clinic but suddenly noticed blood flowing from his buttocks. Looking down, he saw a red-bellied snake had jumped and bitten his thigh!

“Went out without checking the almanac today—damn it!”

Luckily it was a red-bellied snake—mildly venomous. He squeezed the wound clean and applied some medicine; that would be enough.

“Brother Song, I’m back again! Ah! You’ve been bitten by a venomous snake, let me suck out the poison for you!”

Looking up, Ding Laosan saw Kuang Dongxiu had changed into normal clothes, a luxury Mercedes-Benz was parked outside, and her complexion was radiant and more beautiful, even more charming and soul-stirring. Ding Laosan didn’t dare look too long, afraid of losing his mind.

Kuang Dongxiu showed no reserve with him and immediately leaned forward, using her mouth to suck the snake venom from his wound.
