Chapter 4: Gaining the Little Demon Beast – Húshūn
While Su Jingwen was using the bathroom, Ding Laosan picked a few pounds of loquats in his courtyard. He silently recited the spatial incantation, and in the blink of an eye, entered the Medicine Immortal Space.
The young and beautiful female lord of the space sensed the anomaly and immediately knew Ding Laosan had arrived.
She quickly revealed her true form and said, “Uncle, is your allergy cured?”
Ding Laosan hurriedly replied, “Cherry, after the Golden Silkworm Grass absorbed the blue toxin from Jingwen’s body, her congenital strange illness was cured. But now, she’s lost all sensation in her waist and can’t take care of herself!”
Cherry, being a Medicine Immortal, naturally wasn’t fazed.
“I told you before—the Golden Silkworm Grass has severe side effects. Jingwen’s inability to care for herself means her vital life energy has been harmed. In the Medicine Immortal Space, there’s a kind of little demon beast called a Húshūn. Sleeping with it a few times will help replenish her vitality and lead to recovery.”
Ding Laosan’s eyes lit up, and he quickly handed Cherry the loquats he had brought.
“Cherry, these are loquats from my place—really delicious. Is your Húshūn a rare breed?”
Cherry smiled gently and said, “Húshūn are very common in the Medicine Immortal Space. They’re the lowest-level demon beasts here. With the loquats you brought, you could trade for five of them. I’ll teach you a beast-taming technique. After that, it will obey only your commands. It can be used to replenish energy, guard your home, and protect your loved ones!”
Ding Laosan was amazed. Trading a few pounds of loquats for a little demon beast was quite the bargain.
He then said, “Cherry, one little beast is enough. Could I trade for something else instead? Like some ancient medicinal herbs from your space?”
Cherry laughed in exasperation and playfully scolded, “You greedy old man. Fine, I’ll give you the seeds of a rare ancient herb called Yuanbao Grass. But it needs spiritual energy from heaven and earth to grow. I don’t know if you have any in your world.”
“Heaven and earth spiritual energy? I think we have some—I’ll take it back and try planting it.”
“Yuanbao Grass is mainly for beauty enhancement and scar healing. It also helps with injuries from falls or impacts.”
Cherry gave a nod, waved her hand, and a pouch of seeds appeared. The seeds looked just like tiny ingots and emitted a fragrant aroma.
“Last time, the vegetables you brought were a big hit with my people—especially the chili peppers! The Medicine Immortal Clan mainly consumes pills and roc meat. Our food is so bland it could bore a bird to death!”
Speaking of the food in the Medicine Immortal Space, Cherry couldn’t help but complain.
Ding Laosan replied, “We don’t have ancient herbs or magical beasts, but we do have endless varieties of food and drink—more than you can imagine! I’ll bring more chili peppers next time.”
“Great! I’d love that!”
Cherry called out sweetly, “Húshūn!”
In a blink, a large group of little demon beasts appeared. They had cat-like bodies and fox-like faces, with colorful fur. Their fuzzy appearance was similar to giant pandas—round heads, round bodies, looking adorably silly and cute.
As soon as they saw the female lord, they rolled all over the ground and let out soft, cooing cries, desperately trying to win her affection.
Cherry walked over to Ding Laosan, cupped his face in her hands, and blew a breath toward his mouth. At once, Ding Laosan felt a surge of foreign information rush into his mind.
“All right, Uncle, pick one. Use the beast-taming technique I gave you to communicate with it.”
Ding Laosan asked hesitantly, “Will this little beast bite?”
“Don’t worry—it won’t bite its own. Only enemies. Don’t be fooled by its silly appearance—its bite force is shockingly powerful. Its combat abilities are off the charts!”
With her assurance, Ding Laosan selected a slightly larger one with striking red and blue fur.
He tried the beast-taming technique, and soon, the red-and-blue Húshūn understood. It wagged its tail and awkwardly walked up to Ding Laosan.
He patted its little head, and it let out a soft cry, then leaped onto his shoulder, curled up into a ball, and looked adorably well-behaved.
“Cherry-sis, I’m Ding Laosan. I’ll be going now. See you!”
After returning the small porcelain bottle that sealed the Golden Silkworm Grass, the space around him vanished. In the blink of an eye, he was back at his home in Baisha Village.
Now in his hand was a pouch of immortal herb seeds and an adorably silly little demon beast.
From the bathroom, Su Jingwen’s anxious voice called out as she stomped her feet, “Silly Uncle! Bad Uncle! Where did you go?”
Ding Laosan got annoyed and shouted, “You brat, what are you yelling for? I just stepped out for a bit—is that not allowed?”
Su Jingwen gasped, “Oh my god, Uncle, are you actually scolding me? That’s the first time you’ve ever gotten mad at me!”
She stared at him in surprise, like she didn’t recognize him, her eyes lighting up with admiration.
Ding Laosan said, “I’m human too, not a block of wood. Why can’t I get angry?”
“Silly Uncle, when you’re angry, you look like a real man who stands tall and proud!”
Seeing her big butt exposed, Ding Laosan walked in, helped her put on her pants, and carried her back to her room, settling her on the bed.
The moment the little beast saw Su Jingwen, it bared its sharp teeth, fur standing on end, ready to fight.
Su Jingwen screamed in fright, “Silly Uncle, what kind of monster is that? Why is its fur red and blue? I’ve never seen anything like it!”
“It’s called a Húshūn—a little guardian beast. Whether or not your waist recovers will depend on it.”
Then Ding Laosan used the beast-taming technique to explain to the little beast, “Her name is Su Jingwen—she’s family. Got it?”
The little Hu Sun seemed to understand—it even nodded.
It wagged its tail at Su Jingwen, asking for a hug.
Seeing how silly and adorable the little beast was, Su Jingwen boldly picked it up and stroked its soft fur.
“Uncle Silly, where did you get such a cute little animal?”
At this point, Su Jingwen’s curiosity was about to explode. Ever since “Uncle Silly” collapsed and then woke up, he had completely changed. Not only that, but he always seemed to bring back strange and rare creatures.
“Don’t tell me you caught it on the mountain! There are no such bizarre animals in our Ten-Thousand Mountain range!”
Ding Laosan replied resolutely, “Caught it on the mountain, believe it or not!”
He couldn’t possibly say he brought it back from the Medicine Immortal Space, could he?
“Uncle Silly, you’ve learned to lie now? I’m ignoring you!”
Su Jingwen quickly discovered that the little beast was very fun to play with. It had a natural fragrance, its fluffy fur felt great, and just hugging it for a bit made her feel more energetic and refreshed.
“Su Jingwen, you’re really going to ignore me?”
Ding Laosan’s eyes narrowed. If I’m not a bit forceful, are you going to keep treating me like I’m still some simpleton?
“Hmph! You’re hiding secrets from me!”
Ding Laosan replied firmly, “So what if I am? You brat! Do you want your waist to heal or not?”
“Ah? My waist!”
Thinking of how she had lost all feeling in her waist, Su Jingwen was suddenly gripped by fear and surrendered instantly. “Uncle Silly, I won’t dare anymore! Help me, please help me!”
“Hold onto the Hu Sun tight. This little thing is hard to come by—don’t lose it. I’ll go make you some medicine.”
Ding Laosan thought to himself: If just hugging the Hu Sun can restore feeling, who’s going to believe that? Might as well throw in a little side dish. He stepped outside the courtyard to dig up some Silverweed Root and Plantain Grass—both herbs used to clear internal heat. He cleaned them and brewed a medicinal soup.
“What kind of medicine is this? So bitter… But since it’s from Uncle Silly, I trust you!”
Gulp gulp!
She drank the entire bowl in one go. Then, holding the little beast in her arms, she lay down to sleep.
Ding Laosan glanced at the western sky—sunset was approaching.
He took the immortal herb seeds he got from the Medicine Immortal Space and went to plant them in his home vegetable garden.
His neighbor Zhenzhen, wife of Liang Aihua, had her plot of land right next to his.
Zhenzhen didn’t have a big butt, but she had an impressive pair of breasts.
When she bent over, the view was quite… dramatic.
Seeing Ding Laosan, she slapped him playfully on the butt and teased, “Uncle Silly, you’re 40 and still a virgin? Don’t you want to sleep with a woman?”
Ding Laosan was surprised. His eyes could see a strange aura of illness rising from Zhenzhen’s butt.
Weird… Just from the Medicine Immortal blowing a breath of immortal energy into my mind, now I’ve got x-ray vision?
Not only that, the foreign knowledge in his mind also gave him a diagnosis.
“Zhenzhen, there’s a scar on your butt about 20 cm long, isn’t there?”
Since being reborn into this body of a 40-year-old virgin simpleton, Ding Laosan hadn’t even had 100 yuan to his name.
Now, with x-ray vision and the ability to diagnose illness, he was excited at the thought of making a living with his medical skills.
“What?! You peeping tom! You’re spying on me?”
Zhenzhen, only 24 years old, had married into the Liang family not long ago. Unfortunately, her husband Liang Aihua turned out to be a thief. Just a few months into the marriage, he got arrested and sentenced to 18 months in jail. Poor Zhenzhen was left alone, lonely every night.
She figured, Ding Laosan was just a village idiot, so if she fooled around with him, it’d be safe.
Even if someone found out, who would believe she was interested in a fool?
“Yep, I peeked. So? Is it there or not?”
“Yes, yes, there is! The scar on my butt is from that damned thief of a husband. He hit me and left this ugly scar. It’s so hideous I want to cry!”
Zhenzhen began venting her frustrations.
“Give me 20,000 yuan, and I’ll heal that scar for you!”
Medicine Immortal Hong Yingtao had said that Yuanbao Grass was a divine herb for treating scars.
“Ding Laosan, who knew you could lie like this? Trying to scam my money?”
Zhenzhen’s face darkened, and she turned away angrily.
“You damn woman! You know about Su Jingwen’s strange illness, right? Every time it flared up, she’d turn completely blue. Now I’ve cured her. Don’t believe me? Go ask around!”
Zhenzhen said, “Fine, I’ll go find out. If you really heal my scar, I’ll give you the 20,000 yuan—and let you cop a feel!”
Ding Laosan grinned. “Deal! That’s a promise!”
