The Charming Foolish Doctor of the Countryside Chapter 5

Chapter 5: Removing Zhenzhen’s Scar

Before nightfall, Ding Quandan finished planting the Yuanbao Grass. This magical herb didn’t need transplanting—just sow it directly where it’s meant to grow. Following the instructions taught by Hong Yingtao, the red-lipped medicine fairy, he had managed to cover a full mu (about 0.16 acres) of land.

After watering the field, the seeds seemed to awaken to some mysterious summons and immediately began sprouting from the soil.

Astonishingly, as soon as the Yuanbao Grass unfurled its leaves and bloomed its first tiny flower, it began emitting a faint blue glow in the darkness!

The glowing blue light attracted a swarm of bees and moths, which fluttered about, helping pollinate the flowers.

The next morning, Ding Quandan got up early and rushed to the field.

What he saw nearly made his jaw drop to the ground!

His entire field had become a sea of purple-blue Yuanbao Grass—and they had grown as tall as him overnight! The leaves were thick and fleshy, almost like succulents, and the flowers bloomed in a sycee (ancient ingot) shape—vividly blue and fragrant.

Even from a distance, the strong, pleasant aroma filled the air.

“The Immortal Clan’s sacred herb is too amazing—just too insanely magical!”

In just one night, a handful of seeds had turned into towering plants!

He remembered what the medicine fairy said: Yuanbao Grass could beautify the skin and erase scars.

Ding Quandan couldn’t contain his joy. He leapt into the field, picked a handful of Yuanbao Grass, and happily made his way—amid blossoming peach trees and swaying willows—to the house of the young married woman, Zhenzhen.

It was still early morning. Zhenzhen had just gotten up and was brushing her hair in front of a mirror.

Ding Quandan snuck up to her glass window. Just then, he caught a glimpse of her bare upper body—the sight nearly blinded his dog eyes.

“Zhenzhen, guess who’s here?” he called out excitedly.

Startled, the young woman jumped and quickly covered herself. “You little rascal! You scared the life out of me!”

But then, she caught a whiff of a strange yet wonderful scent. With her long hair cascading like a waterfall, she approached the window and asked curiously, “What smells so good?”

“Zhenzhen, didn’t you say you’ve got a long scar on your butt? This stuff can get rid of it!”

Ding Quandan’s eyes glimmered with lust as he stared at her “precious assets,” practically drooling.

“You rascal! Are you just using this scar thing as an excuse to take advantage of me?”

Zhenzhen could joke around with the other village girls, but when it came to the real thing, she didn’t dare go too far. Her husband, Liang Aihua, was a domestic abuser. If he ever found out, she’d be in serious trouble.

“That’s right. I am taking advantage of you. Don’t you like it?”

Ding Quandan thought to himself: My god, I’ve become such a scoundrel! Admitting it outright like that—am I losing all shame?

Even he was surprised. Ever since the kiss from the young wife, he had awakened the Medicine Immortal Space, and along with it, his personality had grown bolder and thicker-skinned.

In the past, it was always the village girls teasing him.

But now the tables had turned—Ding Quandan was no longer the passive one. He caught Zhenzhen completely off guard.

She tilted her fair face and let out a soft “hm?”—then winced with a hiss and muttered, “I thought you weren’t stupid anymore… Turns out, you’re even dumber than before! You’re just a big fool!”

“Now you see it! I’m a fool—and fools are more fun!”

Ding Quandan’s mind spun quickly. That was close! If the village girls or young wives realized I’m not dumb anymore, would they still flirt with me?

Back when they thought he was simple, Zhenzhen and the pretty maiden Ye Ziyan would talk about all sorts of intimate stuff in front of him—completely unbothered.

Sometimes, he’d even get treated to unexpected “benefits.”

In their eyes, what could a fool possibly understand?

Ding Quandan’s mental abacus clicked rapidly—he decided to keep playing dumb. Especially in front of his young sister-in-law Su Jingwen, he had to maintain the act.

Otherwise, if she found out he wasn’t a fool anymore, she might decide to live independently—or worse, return to her family and marry someone else.

Then what? Ding Quandan would be all alone again!

Seeing how cutely foolish he looked, Tian Zhenzhen couldn’t help but laugh and tease, “You silly egg! Why are you so dumb? Even if you want to take advantage of a girl, you’re not supposed to say it out loud! Next time, remember—I’m only teaching you because I’m nice!”

“Oh… Zhenzhen, I don’t get it. Saying it out loud is bad?”
Ding Quandan scratched the back of his head like a clueless fool, grinning goofily.

Seeing his genuinely simple expression, Zhenzhen let out a sigh of relief. Looks like his stupidity isn’t going away anytime soon. Good! As long as he stays dumb, he’s fun to toy with!

“You silly goose,” she laughed. “If you say it out loud, no girl is gonna let you touch her! Let me teach you what to do—you just follow my lead, and you’ll be fine!”

As she spoke, a playful hunger flashed in her eyes. She pointed at her lips. “They’re a little dry. Come moisten them for me.”

“Huh? Isn’t that… kissing? That’s not okay, is it?”
Ding Quandan puckered his lips and shook his head rapidly like a rattle-drum.

What, you think I’m really stupid? Why would I kiss you for no reason?

I have my beloved sister-in-law—I’ll only kiss her!

“Dummy, that’s not kissing, okay? I just asked you to help moisturize my lips! So stingy!”

Zhenzhen blinked in confusion. She couldn’t figure him out. If he’s really dumb, why does he seem to understand boundaries between men and women? But if he’s not dumb, why does he blurt out stupid stuff like wanting to cop a feel?

Is he dumb, or not?

Now her brain was in a twist!

“Zhenzhen, bring me a big bowl. I need to make a medicine paste!”

Ding Quandan had money on his mind now. A man without money isn’t really a man!

“I’ve never seen this stuff before in my life. Are you sure it can really remove scars?”

Zhenzhen hesitated. She wasn’t sure she wanted this fool rubbing anything on her backside.

Last night, to be honest, she was just teasing him.

He’s a fool after all—so slow that even when he tries to flirt, he blurts it all out like an idiot. Total fool’s energy.

If I actually let a fool treat me, wouldn’t that make me even dumber than him?

“Hey, Zhenzhen! You still don’t trust me? Sure, I’m a fool, but that doesn’t stop me from being a village doctor, right?”

Ding Quandan was starting to feel conflicted. Playing dumb all the time had its downside. If people saw him as a complete fool, they’d never let him treat serious cases.

No choice—he had to prove himself.

So he pointed to a small scar on Zhenzhen’s hand and declared confidently, “See that? Let me try the medicine on that spot!”

Zhenzhen looked at his expression and said skeptically, “Hmph! I don’t believe it. A fool who knows medicine?”

Out of spite, she stretched out her delicate hand.

Ding Quandan grabbed a big bowl, mashed the Yuanbao Grass into a soft, purple medicinal paste. It was juicy and gave off an aromatic fragrance, like a succulent herb turned into a salve.

He smeared the paste right over the small scar on her hand.

Zhenzhen giggled. “Nothing’s happening! You fool—are you just playing with me?”

“Chinese medicine works slowly. Wait a bit!”

About five minutes later, Zhenzhen suddenly gasped, her scalp tingling. “Ouch! It hurts—a lot!”

Ah!

Soon, the area where the medicine had been applied started bubbling like it was being deep-fried—tiny blisters forming.

Zhenzhen’s face turned pale. Her eyes and eyebrows twisted into a grimace—it looked painful.

But the pain lasted only a moment.

The medicinal paste quickly dried up and turned into a flaky, dried-out crust.

“Ah! Am I seeing things? Is… is the scar gone?”

Zhenzhen couldn’t believe her eyes. She rubbed them and looked again—her scar was really gone!

“See? See? I wasn’t lying to you, was I?”
Ding Quandan was thrilled. Wow, the medicine fairy didn’t trick me. The Immortal Medicine Space is real—and the Yuanbao Grass really works on scars!

I’m gonna be rich!
