Chapter 18: I Think I Look Pretty Much Like a Top Student
What else could he possibly be doing?
Su Tian slowly came back to her senses and realized they were standing too close. She took a step back.
Jiang Chiyu stood there lazily, one hand in his pocket, the other hidden behind his back.
This guy often slacked off, showing little discipline. Yet he never came across as uncouth. Whether sitting or standing, he maintained an elegant bearing.
No matter what he did, he looked utterly captivating—Just like a male fox spirit.
Su Tian took another step back.
Jiang Chiyu noticed but remained silent. He brought his right hand to his mouth. As if done laughing, his whole demeanor carried a relaxed languor.
He had a white paper stick in his mouth, but it didn’t affect his speech. He maintained that familiar, alluring yet somewhat annoying tone unique to him:
“Tian Tian, which school rule states that getting caught eating lollipops results in a major demerit?”
When Su Tian clearly saw what he was holding, her entire face burned red.
She was so angry and embarrassed that she couldn’t speak, only wanting to turn and leave.
But an arm reached out and firmly grabbed her sleeve. After she stopped trying to leave, he tactfully released her.
“Don’t go.” Jiang Chiyu coaxed in a low voice, with a touch of gentleness.
“…”
The next moment, he pressed something into Su Tian’s hand.
Su Tian looked down, and heard his alluring laugh—
“Brother Ah Yu has another candy here.”
“…”
After a two-second pause..
The young man started holding back his laughter again said, “Have it, and don’t tell anyone.”
“…”
“I still want to get recommended for university, you know.”
Su Tian held the lychee-flavored lollipop in her hand, completely frustrated: “Jiang Chiyu!”
“Haha!”
The young man’s laughter seemed to materialize joy itself, echoing across the playground while easily affecting her mood.
“Stop laughing!” Su Tian initially kept a straight face, frowning as she watched him laugh for no more than five seconds, when suddenly she also burst out laughing with him. Gripping the candy tightly, she felt both amused and annoyed.
Ha!
Jiang Chiyu actually sneaked to the playground to eat lollipops.
‘Jiang Chiyu! The returned overseas top student! Yet here he was, just like me, sneaking to the playground for junk food!’
Su Tian’s last bit of annoyance disappeared as she laughed out loud with him.
However, as the ancient saying goes, extreme joy begets sorrow, and it always proves true.
Just as they were laughing heartily, suddenly a cheerful bell rang in the teaching building, its long echo reverberating across the playground.
Su Tian’s expression changed, and she couldn’t laugh anymore.
Oh no! Class! Has started!
Now Su Tian was truly annoyed, glaring at Jiang Chiyu, “It’s all your fault! You’re still laughing, hurry up and run! The next teacher is very strict!”
“What’s there to fear?” Jiang Chiyu slowly stopped laughing, giving her a meaningful look.
…
“Reporting!”
The chemistry teacher who was lecturing turned to look at the door, “Why are you so late?”
Su Tian maintained a straight face, “The new student needed to handle transfer paperwork, Teacher Zhao had something to attend to, so I took him to several offices to get signatures.”
Jiang Chiyu stood behind her, holding several forms, allowing the chemistry teacher to examine them.
Sure enough, the chemistry teacher didn’t say anything, “Come in.”
The two of them returned to their seats properly, ignoring the subtle glances from their classmates below the podium.
The excuse was Jiang Chiyu’s idea, the explanation was perfected by Su Tian the class representative, and the forms were provided by the water card office.
Perfect teamwork.
In the whole class, probably only Zhou Ying stared with wide eyes, watching them calmly return to their seats, her mind full of questions like: “Why did they come back together?” “What were they doing?” “There’s something strange about those two!”
For the entire class period, Zhou Ying stared at the backs of their heads no less than fifty times.
Even the chemistry teacher couldn’t help but ask her: “That female student in the last row, do you have a stiff neck?”
Zhou Ying nodded, looking embarrassed.
…
Su Tian wasn’t very good at chemistry.
To be precise, she wasn’t good at any of the secondary science subjects.
Compared to these subjects that required mental gymnastics, she was better at memorization, so overall she was stronger in liberal arts than sciences.
Right until lunch break, she was either busy asking others about problems or teaching Zhou Ying questions she didn’t understand, while also finding time to go to the office to fetch Chinese homework and distribute it.
She was busy like a spinning top.
In contrast, the transfer student, who held no class duties, was bored to the point of reading textbooks.
During the last self-study period, students were free to ask questions. With five minutes left before dismissal, Su Tian was still looking around the classroom, trying to find someone to teach her.
“Like this,” Jiang Chiyu couldn’t stand watching anymore, knocking his knuckles on her desk, “the efficiency is too low.”
Su Tian looked at him blankly.
She certainly knew this was inefficient, but the physics and chemistry teachers only explained papers once, and the logic was too convoluted for her to remember.
But she didn’t explain.
She wanted to hear what Jiang Chiyu had to say.
Jiang Chiyu became a bit more serious, his tone somewhat earnest, “When you go ask others questions, they might be busy too, and the time you spend walking around could be used to explain several steps.”
Su Tian nodded along.
Indeed.
But asking others to explain was the most effective method.
When she tried to figure things out herself, she couldn’t understand some answers even when they were right in front of her.
“So.” Jiang Chiyu tapped the desk lightly again, “Why don’t you ask your deskmate?”
“…”
“I think I look pretty much like a top student.”
Su Tian pressed her lips together.
She suddenly remembered Jiang Chiyu’s perfect score in math.
That was a perfect score! A perfect score she had never seen before!
Although Jiang Chiyu only took three subjects in this monthly exam and the scores weren’t entered into the system, with math scores this good, the other science subjects couldn’t possibly be bad.
Currently, it seemed only she knew that besides getting first place in Chinese for the whole school, Jiang Chiyu also got perfect scores in math and English.
Only a fool would refuse when such a hidden expert actively offered to help.
But she always felt Jiang Chiyu wasn’t up to any good. Her eyes darted around as she said, “You’re just annoyed by me coming and going all the time, right?”
“…”
Jiang Chiyu didn’t deny it, holding up three beautiful fingers and waving them.
He held up his index, middle, and ring fingers, and Su Tian compared them, “OK? Does that mean yes?”
Actually, she felt quite embarrassed about constantly coming and going, this worry only arising after becoming Jiang Chiyu’s deskmate.
Her previous deskmates never liked to sit as far back as Jiang Chiyu did, so she could just leave directly without having to constantly trouble her deskmate to move their chair forward.
After all, none of her previous deskmates had legs as long as Jiang Chiyu’s.
Su Tian couldn’t help glancing at his legs stretched under the desk.
They! Were! Really! Long!
Always seeming unable to stretch out fully.
Jiang Chiyu hadn’t noticed her glance, shaking his head and saying carelessly, “It’s three yuan per question.”
Su Tian came back to her senses and made a sound of surprise.
A second later she understood, and whatever guilt she had felt completely vanished, “Then just stay annoyed!!!”
