Madam Wang’s fear grew with each passing moment, and before long, she knelt before Qingli, pleading, “Master, I beg you, save my son! We know we were wrong. I should have raised him better; it’s all my fault.”
She prostrated herself at Qingli’s feet, crying and sobbing, genuinely expressing remorse.
Qingli did not help her up but said calmly, “Madam Wang, please get up. I am here to help you solve this. Have someone bring paper and ink so we can take notes. I will summon Wang Can’s soul and clarify the situation, then we can address everything one by one.”
Madam Wang nodded repeatedly, stood up to wipe her tears, and hurriedly ordered someone to fetch the writing materials.
Qingli took out the soul summoning talisman and placed it on Wang Can’s corpse, then began to perform the incantation.
Wang Can’s soul was already present in the mansion; it was merely hiding out of fear and thus needed to be summoned.
There were many spirits in the mansion harboring deep resentment towards him, and those spirits would not let him go easily, which is why he dared not show himself.
A powerful force pulled Wang Can’s soul into the mourning hall, and as soon as he appeared, the surrounding spirits followed, causing Wang Can to scream in terror.
Qingli glanced at Madam Wang, who, unable to see the scene, still appeared calm as she directed people to bring a table for ease of note-taking.
Considering Madam Wang’s character, Qingli said, “Madam Wang, I have summoned your son’s soul. Would you like to see him?”
Of course, Madam Wang wanted to see him. She quickly asked, “Master, can I really see A-Can’s soul?”
Qingli nodded. “Of course. I can help you see him with a slight application of magic, but I fear you might be frightened since he is a ghost.”
Madam Wang shook her head repeatedly. “I’m not afraid! I’m not afraid! Please, Master, let us meet mother and son again.”
A subtle smile flitted across Qingli’s lips, quickly disappearing without anyone noticing.
She nodded lightly. “Very well, I will let you meet your son once more.”
Qingli did not use the talisman but instead recited an incantation. In the next moment, a warm yellow glow flashed from her hand. When that glow landed on Madam Wang’s eyes, she felt a warmth and couldn’t help but close her eyes for a moment. When she reopened them, she had not yet had a chance to rejoice at seeing her son before she was startled by the various bloodied ghosts surrounding him.
“Ah!”
Madam Wang let out a sharp scream and fell heavily to the ground with a thud.
Wang Can, in a state of desperation, cried out for help, his earlier confidence replaced with fear. His death had not been pretty; aside from his face, his body bore visible fractures and injuries, covered in blood, reflecting how he had died.
Madam Wang was filled with terror and kept retreating. She seemed to recognize some of the faces around her but dared not look closely. Bowing her head, she cried out, “Master, I can’t look anymore! Please, Master, heal my eyes! I can’t look anymore!”
Qingli’s lips curled into a mischievous smile that quickly vanished as she said lightly, “Madam Wang, once the yin-yang eyes are opened, they cannot be closed. However, they do have a time limit. Yours will last for a day. By this time tomorrow, the effect of the yin-yang eyes will naturally wear off.”
“Ah? Why does it take so long? I… I can’t take it! Master, think of a way to cover my eyes! I’m too scared!”
At that moment, Madam Wang deeply regretted her actions! Opening these eyes would only lead to her demise.
Qingli shrugged helplessly. “Madam Wang, it cannot be covered. You must endure it!”
Madam Wang kept her head down, refusing to look up. But the next moment, a terrifying face suddenly appeared on the floor, looking ghostly.
“Ah!”
Madam Wang screamed and jumped up, fainting from fear.
Qingli approached her and pinched her acupoint, bringing her back to consciousness.
“Madam Wang, it’s time to get down to business. You mustn’t faint again, or it will delay your son’s reincarnation.”
Upon hearing this, Madam Wang dared not faint again and forced herself to calm down.
Qingli continued, “These souls are the result of the sins your son has committed. Once you make amends and appease the spirits, their resentment will dissipate, and they will no longer trouble you.”
Madam Wang eagerly responded, “Appease them? I will do it right now! Please guide me, Master.”
Qingli summoned Wang Can to stand before them and said, “Wang Can, now tell your mother everything you’ve done. She will ensure it is recorded clearly, and then we will ask how to appease those you have wronged. You must fulfill their requests, and once their hearts are settled, their resentment will dissipate, and you will no longer need to fear.”
Wang Can nodded repeatedly, saying, “I will say it all! It’s all my fault; I’m sorry!”
He began to recount his past misdeeds, crying as he detailed his animalistic behavior, one incident after another, making Qingli frown with disapproval.
He truly deserved his fate!
If it weren’t for her responsibilities, she wouldn’t even want to perform a soul release for him; it would be better for him to be devoured by evil spirits.
The person taking notes wrote furiously, sweat pouring down their face as Qingli sat beside them. The spirits that had once tormented Wang Can had quieted down, no longer showing their fangs, and began to shed tears.
They never expected that one day, someone would come to seek justice for them.
Time passed, and finally, Wang Can finished recounting his wrongdoings. He was so filled with guilt that he dared not look at Qingli, lowering his head instead.
Madam Wang was equally filled with remorse, finally feeling guilt wash over her. She kept her head down, tears of regret streaming down her face.
If she had raised her child properly from a young age, teaching him right from wrong, instructing him to respect women and not to bully or deceive them, perhaps her son would have married a beloved woman and lived a stable, prosperous life. Instead, he was surrounded by concubines who did not really care for him, leading to his tragic end.
Qingli’s cold voice broke the silence. “Madam Wang, you can now call upon the spirits in the order listed here and ask them how to appease them. You must satisfy their requests, and once everyone is content, your son can then be reborn.”
Madam Wang hesitated to face the spirits. She cautiously raised her head to glance, but even with preparation, she shivered in fear.
Seeing her hesitate to speak, Qingli said impatiently, “Madam Wang, my time is valuable. Please proceed quickly.”
Madam Wang picked up the paper, looking at the names listed, and despite her fear, she forced herself to read aloud. “Xiao Panpan.”
After saying this, she did not dare to look up, only able to glance with her peripheral vision.
Seeing no one appear, she slowly lifted her gaze, only to find the most terrifying spirit coming towards her.
Madam Wang fought against the urge to flee, gripping the paper tightly and forcing herself to remain calm.
The spirit before her was covered in blood, its white clothing soaked through, presenting a ghastly sight with splotches of red and white. Its face was obscured, but its pitch-black eyes resembled a dark, swirling abyss, both mysterious and terrifying.
Gathering her courage, Madam Wang looked at her for just a moment but quickly averted her gaze, dropping to her knees before the spirit.
“Miss Xiao, I apologize on behalf of my son. As his mother, I failed to teach him properly. He is at fault, and so am I. I am willing to make amends. Whatever you ask for, I will agree to, as long as you no longer harbor hatred for him.”
Madam Wang cried as she spoke, bowing her head repeatedly.
Wang Can watched, filled with heartache! He finally realized his mistakes, overwhelmed with regret.
He joined his mother in kneeling before Xiao Panpan, saying, “Panpan, I’m sorry! I was wrong, I was really wrong.”
Wang Can sobbed uncontrollably.
Xiao Panpan looked at the mother and son duo, her eyes filled with irony.
