Chapter 1: Then She Transmigrated Into the Book
Su Yuanyuan woke up and found herself inside a book.
Just the night before, she had been binge-reading a novel all night. She was totally absorbed in it until she suddenly realized that a cannon fodder female character in the book had the exact same name as her. She was instantly put off, dropped the book, and even left the author a one-star review before quitting.
And now, after one night’s sleep, she had transmigrated into the book.
What’s worse there was a man on top of her!
“This little thing’s got quite the figure. That loser Lu Zhengan doesn’t know how to appreciate a woman like this. I’ll take her now, then find a way to bring her back home later she’ll be mine, heh heh!”
The man muttered lewdly to himself as he groped all over Su Yuanyuan. He had never even dreamed of such a good thing falling into his lap. Just the thought of it had him practically drooling.
His mind was full of lust and he didn’t even notice that Su Yuanyuan was now awake.
He grabbed her waist and was about to lift her shirt when Su Yuanyuan snapped out of her daze from transmigrating. The man’s heavy breathing disgusted her. Her eyes turned cold she lifted her hand and struck him hard on the back of the neck with a knife hand blow.
It was a sudden attack, and she had used full force. The man who had been all over her one second ago slumped unconscious the next.
“Ugh.” Su Yuanyuan shoved the man off her body and sat up, brushing herself off in disgust.
The windows of the room were covered by old, tattered curtains, letting in only faint light.
After straightening her clothes, Su Yuanyuan got off the heated brick bed, took a deep breath, and slung the man over her shoulder.
Surprisingly easy. The original owner of this body clearly did a lot of farm work. Even though her health was poor, she still had strength. People who grew up in hardship could do physical work unless they were seriously ill or crippled.
In her original world, Su Yuanyuan had exercised regularly and was physically fit, with some combat skills. Carrying the man to the door was no problem.
The yard and the neighboring rooms were all empty silent. Su Yuanyuan sneered and headed straight for the back door.
Old Man Lu and the rest of the Lu family were lounging under the banyan tree outside the front gate, pretending not to know anything. They were planning to stage a “caught-in-the-act” scene later.
The back door had been left ajar intentionally so the man could sneak in.
Outside the back door was a vast wheat field. The stalks were tall, golden in the autumn light, stretching out like a sea of gold.
Su Yuanyuan moved fast, carrying the man with ease. She tossed him onto a dirt ridge far off behind the wheat field, dusted off her hands, and didn’t even break a sweat.
No one usually came around at dusk, but it was better to be careful.
She glanced around to make sure no one saw her, then turned and headed back home.
The Lu family’s house was a thatched cottage, the bricks made of yellow mud.
Ever since Lu Zhengan joined the army, the family’s living conditions had slowly improved.
Back in the room, Su Yuanyuan locked the door securely. She glanced around the space and twitched her lips it was practically bare.
She sat down on the kang bed, closed her eyes, and concentrated.
When she opened them again, she was standing in front of a five-story villa, lavishly decorated. From the entrance, she could see a massive medicinal herb garden.
Even the breeze carried a faint herbal fragrance.
Su Yuanyuan’s heart thudded with excitement. Before she closed her eyes, she hadn’t been sure whether her space had come with her into the book but it had! It really had!
Without her space, even with combat skills, escaping the tragic fate of the original storyline and raising two kids into a good life would have been almost impossible.
But now, with the space, everything was different.
Just the villa alone could raise their quality of life by several levels.
The villa was fully smart-equipped: robot vacuums, automatic curtains, washer-dryer units in the bathrooms.
The kitchen had a dishwasher and cooking machines. The herb garden was fully automated with irrigation systems.
And best of all her favorite part of the space: the spiritual spring.
Su Yuanyuan smiled and squinted as facial recognition opened the villa’s front door, revealing a bright and spacious living room.
She walked to the service station and pressed a switch. A water dispenser automatically started pouring water.
The dispenser was connected to a well outside.
The water from the well was a natural underground spiritual spring with special properties. The original body had health issues this spring water was like a gentle healing tonic.
She filled a cup and drank it. The moment it slid down her throat, she could feel her body becoming lighter, even the tightness in her chest easing noticeably.
Su Yuanyuan let out a breath.
“Ah, so comfortable!”
Breathing in the air inside her space made her feel light and refreshed.
She rolled up her sleeves and walked over to the melon patch next to the medicinal garden. A Qilin watermelon, about the size of a basketball, was resting on the edge of the field.
She picked it, cut it in half, and sat under the locust tree at the edge of the field, munching down on half the melon.
Watermelons grown with spiritual spring water were incredibly sweet and juicy.
After finishing the last bite, Su Yuanyuan washed her hands, stretched lazily, and thought it was about time.
Meanwhile…
Old Man Lu and his group were walking back from the field ridge, glancing into the yard and exchanging looks.
“Dad, should we go in now?” The eldest son, Lu Zhengning, had a cigarette in his mouth, looking like a complete punk.
Li Hua spat on the ground, twisted her thick waist, and marched into the yard to pound on the door.
“Eldest daughter-in-law, how long are you going to sleep? There’s work piling up in the fields and the house! You can’t just eat and do nothing! And you’ve got two little burdens to feed—this family can’t afford that many mouths!”
She banged on the door so hard it echoed loudly.
Since Su Yuanyuan married into the Lu family, Li Hua had never stopped making her life miserable, hiding behind her status as the mother-in-law.
Especially since Su Yuanyuan was in poor health, couldn’t work quickly, and had given birth to two “burdens” who did nothing but eat Li Hua couldn’t stand her.
Inside the room, Su Yuanyuan tucked herself cozily under the blanket, pretending not to hear a thing.
Hearing no movement from inside, Li Hua was secretly thrilled. If today’s plan worked out, Su Yuanyuan would be completely in their control forced to do whatever they said.
Li Hua exchanged glances with her two sons. They were also excited and put on a show:
“Why is it so quiet? Could it be that big sis-in-law isn’t feeling well? What if something happened in there?”
The two brothers shouted and then started ramming the door. Even the yellow clay around the door frame began to shake loose.
Although Su Yuanyuan had locked the door, it was no real barrier. A few hits later, it was kicked open.
The entire Lu family charged in like dumplings being dropped into boiling water.
The person on the bed sat up, looking shocked and startled, coughing into her hand.
There was only a single blanket on the bed clearly no man was hiding inside.
Except for Su Yuanyuan, there wasn’t another soul in sight.
The room was tiny, and even the wardrobe had only one door left there was nowhere for anyone to hide.
They scanned the whole place nothing but Su Yuanyuan.
“You!” Lu Zhengning was about to question her, asking where the man was, when Li Hua quickly pulled him back.
Everyone was now staring in shock at the woman half-sitting on the bed.
Su Yuanyuan’s cheeks were flushed from coughing. Her usually pale face had gained a healthy blush, making her look even more delicate and charming than usual.
“Dad, Mom, what’s going on? Why are you barging in like this without knocking?”
Su Yuanyuan feigned innocence and confusion, clearly waiting until they’d searched the place before pretending to ask.
Seeing how the Lu family was still darting their eyes around, she rolled her eyes internally.
Not a single one of them is decent.
From the moment they entered, they were scanning the room as if they had “caught-in-the-act” written all over their faces.
The original Su Yuanyuan had really suffered being stuck with this entire mess of a family, having two kids, and still treated poorly.
“You are you really alone in here?” Lu Zhenggang frowned in frustration, suspecting she had hidden the man somewhere.
Su Yuanyuan looked confused and pale. “Who else would be here? The kids aren’t even home.”
Li Hua’s gaze swept over her again, still unwilling to give up. But Su Yuanyuan’s skin was flawless, her clothes neat she didn’t look like someone who had just been with a man.
Old Man Lu knocked his tobacco pipe against the table, letting out a cold snort.
“So now you remember your kids? All you do is lie around all day and don’t work. What, you think food falls from the sky? Lu Zhengan married you and got himself a goddess, huh?”
He’d looked around the room and saw no one, but he still had to cover up the fact that they came in to catch her cheating.
Hearing that, Su Yuanyuan almost laughed.
Typical they couldn’t catch her, so now they’re just finding an excuse to pick a fight.
Let’s be real even if she didn’t lift a finger, even if she acted a little spoiled, she had every right to eat well and live well.
After all, Lu Zhengan sent home eighty yuan in salary every month more than enough to support her and the two kids comfortably.
