Chapter 7
In the spring evening, the evening breeze was gentle and warm.
From the outside of the yard, you could see half of the window in the house.
Jinyue was always watching the maidservants in the courtyard. These past few days, she had told them what they could and couldn’t do, and they wouldn’t even dare to look inside when they passed by.
Jiang Rou lay on the couch, too lazy to move. Lu Yun’an lay beside her, looking at the blanket draped over her stomach. He took the corner of the blanket and draped it over his own stomach.
Jinyue had been sorting out some of the things Jiang Rou brought back. Before she finished, she came to ask for an audience.
After entering, Jinyue lowered her head and said, “Madam, Young Master brought you a lot of snacks. The rest are fine, but the braised meat might go bad if it’s not eaten soon.”
Jiang Rou: “Braised meat?”
Jinyue: “Yes. When he came back, Young Master also instructed me. He bought some braised meat, it’s pretty good, he wants you to try it. He said he bought it at a new braised meat stall on East Street.”
Jiang Rou: “Bring it over then.”
East Street, a new braised meat stall???
Lu Yun’an: “Wait.”
Jiang Rou: “What’s wrong?”
Lu Yun’an: “You ate too much today. When we came back, Mother told me to keep an eye on you and not let you eat anymore. Just put the braised meat in the small kitchen in the courtyard. It’s not too hot yet, it won’t go bad.”
Jiang Rou thought about it. “Alright, I won’t eat it now. I’ll eat it tomorrow.”
She could have some braised meat in the morning.
She lay on the couch for a while longer, then got up to bathe. She dawdled out, and Lu Yun’an had already bathed and lay down.
Jiang Rou kicked off her slippers. As she was about to get into bed, Lu Yun’an immediately rolled over.
Jiang Rou: “What are you doing?”
Lu Yun’an: “Nothing, just rolling over.”
Jiang Rou: “Get out, I want to sleep on the inside.”
After Jiang Rou got into bed, Lu Yun’an patted his chest and got out, lying down on the outside of the bed.
The lights were turned off, and the room darkened.
Lu Yun’an: “Can we talk about something?”
Jiang Rou: “What?”
Lu Yun’an hesitated for a moment and didn’t say anything. Jiang Rou turned over, facing him. She asked, “What is it?”
Lu Yun’an: “Nothing. Go to sleep early.”
He still couldn’t bring himself to say it. He’d just have to get back in bed after she did next time.
The room was quiet. Lu Yun’an listened to the steady breathing beside him. He waited a while, then moved very lightly. He put on his boots and was about to go out.
Jiang Rou: “Husband?”
Lu Yun’an jumped. “I’m going to get some tea, tea. Do you want some?”
Jiang Rou: “No.”
Lu Yun’an poured himself some tea. After finishing it, he took off his boots and went back to bed.
He waited for about half an hour, then gently pushed Jiang Rou.
Lu Yun’an: “Jiang Rou?”
He got out of bed, moving very lightly, afraid of waking her.
He went to the small kitchen in the courtyard. Lu Yun’an didn’t even look around the kitchen, he found the braised meat that Jinyue had left there.
He opened the oiled paper package and took a piece of lotus root and took a bite. The taste was familiar, it was the same braised meat he bought on their wedding night when Jiang Rou wanted a late-night snack.
Lu Yun’an held the braised meat. How to deal with it became a problem.
He remembered his servant. Lu Yun’an picked up the braised meat, turned around, and was about to go out.
Jiang Rou: “You’re eating a late-night snack, and you didn’t call me.”
Lu Yun’an: “Late-night snack, right, late-night snack. Do you know Xiangyuan Restaurant? Their food is good, I’ll go buy some for you now!”
Lu Yun’an, holding the braised meat, hurried out. Jiang Rou, delicate and slender, grabbed his sleeve.
She opened the oiled paper package and took a bite.
Lu Yun’an: “…”
In the room, Lu Yun’an started pacing back and forth. Jiang Rou covered her face and sobbed, then looked up at Lu Yun’an, her eyes full of accusation.
Jiang Rou: “My brother bought it yesterday. You told me yesterday that the couple who runs the stall doesn’t set up shop every day.”
Lu Yun’an: “I’ll go buy it for you now!”
Jiang Rou: “Wuwuwu, you even laughed last time!”
Lu Yun’an listened to Jiang Rou’s commotion. “Ancestor, keep it down, have mercy on me!”
Jiang Rou: “What if I want to eat a late-night snack next time?”
Lu Yun’an: “Buy it, I’ll go buy it right away!”
Lu Yun’an: “I’ll go buy you some braised pork hocks from Xiangyuan Restaurant now. They’re delicious, really delicious!”
Jiang Rou: “How delicious?”
Lu Yun’an thought for a moment. “Last month, I ate it six or seven times!”
Jiang Rou: “Come back quickly, I’m about to fall asleep.”
Lu Yun’an nodded repeatedly. “Okay, okay, wait for me, I’ll be right back!”
Lu Yun’an was just wearing casual clothes when he went to the small kitchen. Now he was going out, so he tidied himself up a bit, then quickly went out under Jiang Rou’s gaze.
Jiang Rou pushed open the window and took a look. She saw Lu Yun’an skillfully scaling the wall and jumping out.
Lu Yun’an met his servant in the Marquis Mansion. The servant had served Lu Yun’an since he was a child.
He watched Lu Yun’an run past him. He wanted to speak, but Lu Yun’an didn’t give him a chance.
After running a few steps, Lu Yun’an turned his head and said, “Tell those servants, no one is to provoke Jiang Rou. Whoever does will regret it!
They were Lu Yun’an’s people. If they did anything wrong, he would be the one to appease Jiang Rou in the end!
Chen Jiu: “Yes, yes!”
Chen Jiu looked at Lu Yun’an’s expression and ran after him, quickly going back to tell them to be more polite, even more polite, when treating the new Madam!
Lu Yun’an came back with the braised pork hocks, a thin layer of sweat on his face.
Jiang Rou opened the oiled paper package. The braised pork hocks inside looked tempting, with a rich aroma.
Lu Yun’an sat down. “Try it.”
Jiang Rou casually handed him a handkerchief. She picked up a piece of pork hock and took a bite. It was delicious and chewy. No wonder Lu Yun’an had eaten it six or seven times last month.
Lu Yun’an was a little stunned, flattered, but he didn’t dare to use the handkerchief.
He wiped his sweat with his sleeve, then thought for a moment and folded the handkerchief neatly, placing it next to Jiang Rou.
He wanted to sleep later.
Lu Yun’an: “How is it? Delicious, right?”
The wastrel who was well-versed in eating and having fun in the capital, the braised pork hocks he bought were indeed delicious.
On their wedding night, he was clearly just being perfunctory.
Jiang Rou smiled. “Husband, it’s much better than the late-night snack you bought me on our wedding day.”
Lu Yun’an: “…”
Lu Yun’an took the handkerchief and wiped her hand. “Wipe your hand.”
After resting for a while, Lu Yun’an also took a piece of braised pork hock. They sat facing each other, eating together. Jiang Rou ate slowly, and she hadn’t finished one yet.
They each ate a piece of pork hock. Jiang Rou went to wash her hands. After washing them, she turned around and saw Lu Yun’an, who was also about to wash his hands.
Jiang Rou: “You want to wash your hands?”
The basin was filled with water that Jiang Rou had used. If it was someone else’s water, Lu Yun’an wouldn’t have used it!
Lu Yun’an said reluctantly, “It’s fine, I’ll just use this.”
Jiang Rou: “Are you going to sleep after you wash your hands?”
Lu Yun’an was already sleepy. He looked at Jiang Rou in shock. “You’re not going to sleep yet?”
Jiang Rou: “I’m going to sleep, but you have to bathe.”
Lu Yun’an: “I bathed before I went to sleep.”
Jiang Rou knew that, of course. She nodded. “But you just sweated.”
Lu Yun’an: “…”
Jiang Rou pointed to the couch, lowering her head and whispering, “You can sleep there if you want.”
Lu Yun’an: “I’ll get some water!”
When Lu Yun’an came back, Jiang Rou was already asleep. Her sleeping position wasn’t very neat. Lu Yun’an didn’t think anything of it. His sleeping position was even worse than hers.
She was sleeping with her pillow and the blanket clutched in her arms, probably because she was a little hot.
Not daring to wake her, Lu Yun’an turned off the lights and lay down beside her quietly.
In the morning, no one disturbed them. Jiang Rou slept until the sun was high in the sky before getting up. Lu Yun’an was still asleep, and she didn’t bother to wake him up. She lay on the bed for a while longer.
After waking up, Jiang Rou moved very quietly. She didn’t like anyone disturbing her sleep, and she wouldn’t disturb Lu Yun’an’s sleep either.
She didn’t call Jinyue in. Jiang Rou found a storybook and sat down on the couch to read it.
Lu Yun’an opened his eyes. He first looked at his side, then got up. Seeing Jiang Rou unwashed, he was a little surprised.
Jiang Rou pushed open the window and called, “Jinyue.”
Jinyue: “Yes, Madam.”
Lu Yun’an looked at her with an odd expression. “You woke up a long time ago?”
Jiang Rou nodded.
Jiang Rou, with her plain face and nodding, looked so innocent that it made Lu Yun’an feel soft.
Jiang Rou: “I waited for you for a long time!”
She held up the storybook. “I’ve almost finished half of it.”
It looked like she had only read about a third of it.
Jiang Rou: “My stomach is about to rumble.”
It hadn’t started rumbling yet.
They looked at each other for a while. Lu Yun’an put on a moved expression. “You’ve been wronged!”
Jiang Rou: “No, Husband is good to me. What’s there to be wronged about?”
Lu Yun’an was about to say something but swallowed it back down.
In the morning, Jiang Rou wanted silver thread noodles, and Lu Yun’an didn’t mind, eating the same thing as her.
While eating, Jiang Rou noticed that Lu Yun’an seemed very happy. She took a few bites, lost interest, and looked at him.
Jiang Rou: “You seem very happy?”
Lu Yun’an nodded. He sped up, quickly finishing the rest of the silver thread noodles in his bowl, then said, “Don’t wait for me for lunch.”
Marquis Dingyuan’s wife had said that Lu Yun’an had to accompany Jiang Rou until she returned home, and she had told people to keep an eye on him, not allowing him to go out.
If he ran away and his mother found out, he would be punished by copying books!
Going out to buy late-night snacks for Jiang Rou didn’t count. It was all for her, what was the difference between that and accompanying her?
Jiang Rou nodded.
Oh, she understood. Her husband was going out to eat and have fun.
Lu Yun’an stood up and was about to go out, looking like a handsome young master.
Jiang Rou: “Do I need to wait for you for dinner?”
Lu Yun’an turned around, thought for a moment, and said, “No need.”
Jiang Rou smiled and replied, “Okay.”
Lu Yun’an hesitated for a moment, then boldly walked forward, planning to go out and play with his friends.
Who else’s husband accompanies his wife to play every day?
He also didn’t want to take a young lady like Jiang Rou out to play with his fri
